Entropic Signatures Of The Skyrmion Lattice Phase In Mnsi1-Xalx And Fe1-Ycoysi, C. Dhital, J. F. Ditusa Dec 2020

Entropic Signatures Of The Skyrmion Lattice Phase In Mnsi1-Xalx And Fe1-Ycoysi, C. Dhital, J. F. Ditusa

Faculty Publications

The entropic signatures of magnetic phase transitions in the skyrmion lattice host compounds MnSi0.962Al0.038 and Fe0.7Co0.3Si were investigated through low field magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements. These data indicate that the conical to skyrmion transition that occurs with the application of magnetic field in MnSi0.962Al0.038 is characterized by clear discontinuity in the magnetic entropy as expected for first order topological phase transition. These same magnetoentropic features are negligibly small in isostructural Fe0.7Co0.3Si due to the level of chemical substitution related disorder and differences in the spin dynamics (range and timescales). Despite the obvious similarities in the magnetic structures of these …

Functional recovery in the end target muscle is a determinant of outcome after peripheral nerve injury. The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) provides the interface between nerve and muscle and includes non-myelinating terminal Schwann cells (tSCs). After nerve injury, tSCs extend cytoplasmic processes between NMJs to guide axon growth and NMJ reinnervation. The mechanisms related to NMJ reinnervation are not known. We used multiple mouse models to investigate the mechanisms of NMJ reinnervation in both sexes, specifically whether macrophage-derived vascular endothelial growth factor-A (Vegf-A) is crucial to establishing NMJ reinnervation at the end target muscle. Both macrophage number and Vegf-A expression increased …

Tracking High Performance Of An Isolated Pv-Diesel System Without Energy Storage., Akram Ibrahim Elmitwally, Mohamed Rashed Dec 2020

Tracking High Performance Of An Isolated Pv-Diesel System Without Energy Storage., Akram Ibrahim Elmitwally, Mohamed Rashed

Mansoura Engineering Journal

In this paper, a control scheme is proposed for three-phase isolated PV-diesel system without energy storage element. The scheme aims to: track maximum power from the PVA, regulate the load voltage, compensate the load unbalance viewed by the diesel generator, and to control the diesel engine speed. The first three tasks are achieved by controlling the PWM inverter interfacing the PV array to the system. The fourth is realized by a modified fuzzy logic controller of the diesel engine. The obstacles encountered on operating the system under certain probable loading conditions are addressed. Two strategies are proposed to adapt the …

Studying The Influence Of Some Parameters Of Opening And Cleaning Machines On Cleaning Efficiency., Fawkia Fahim El-Habiby

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The aim of this work is studying the influence of some parameters of blowroom opening and cleaning machines on cleaning efficiency. Erect of grid gap width on waste and good fibre elimination as well as cleaning efficiency is studied for opening and cleaning machines and for blowroom line. Factorial analysis were carried out to determine if the variation in cleaning efficiency is significant or by accident. For bale opener the variables were cotton type (trash content), grid gap width and spiked lattice and evener roller selling with interaction 2 x 3 x 5. Also for cleaner RN factorial analysis were …

Relationships Between In-Situ Tests And Soil Cyclic Strength For Earthquake Hazard Characterization In The Pacific Northwest, Tanner Scott Bryantt Dec 2020

Relationships Between In-Situ Tests And Soil Cyclic Strength For Earthquake Hazard Characterization In The Pacific Northwest, Tanner Scott Bryantt

Dissertations and Theses

Strong earthquake shaking is a natural hazard threat in the Pacific Northwest. Soil failure due to strong earthquake shaking -- known as cyclic soil failure or liquefaction -- is expected to cause large ground deformations and damage to roads, bridges, and other civil infrastructure. Cyclic soil strength (CRR) is often characterized with in-situ geotechnical tests including the cone penetration test (CPT). Relationships between CRR and in-situ test data are not well established for soils in the Pacific Northwest. Portland State University, in partnership with New Albion Geotechnical has compiled a database of cyclic lab tests for Pacific Northwest soils to …

Antimicrobial Peptide Development: From Massively Parallel Peptide Sequencing To Bioinformatic Motif Identification, Alexander K. Erikson Dec 2020

Antimicrobial Peptide Development: From Massively Parallel Peptide Sequencing To Bioinformatic Motif Identification, Alexander K. Erikson

Theses and Dissertations

The isolation, purification, and clinical deployment of antibiotics is one of the major drivers of decrease in morbidity and mortality from infectious bacteria in the 20th century. The rapid, ubiquitous deployment of antibiotics encouraged swift development and distribution of antibiotic resistance. New, novel techniques, technologies, and ultimately therapeutic antimicrobial compounds will be required to counter the rise of antibiotic resistant microbes. Historically, mimicking naturally occurring compounds has been the most fruitful method for discovering new antibiotics; unsurprisingly, many recent efforts have focused on expanding the cultivation and detection of previously unknown microbes and compounds, respectively. Other techniques explore developing compounds …

New Formula For The Evaluation Of Accuracy Of Angular Measurments At The Points Of Triangulation., Zaki El-Sheikha Dec 2020

New Formula For The Evaluation Of Accuracy Of Angular Measurments At The Points Of Triangulation., Zaki El-Sheikha

Mansoura Engineering Journal

For the widely used method of measuring angles in all combinations in triangulation nets, as well as for other methods of angular measurements there is no techniques enabling to find the value of mean square errors for each sight taken separately. For the angular measurements carried out by the method of rounds there was a formulae deduced for the first time, but it revealed to be not too easy to use. In this paper, there is a new formula deduced herein, which is much more simple. Moreover, it requires less computations, especially when the number of directions observed is great …

Heart Failure Transitions Of Care Benchmark Project, Tamera M. Brandon Dec 2020

Heart Failure Transitions Of Care Benchmark Project, Tamera M. Brandon

MSN Capstone Projects

Heart failure (HF) is a major cause of death associated with extensive morbidity and impaired quality of life. The incidence and prevalence of HF has also increased dramatically in the past three decades (Whitaker-Brown et al., 2017). HF now affects approximately 5.7 million people in the United States and is the cause of more than 55,000 deaths annually (Whitaker-Brown et al., 2017). Consequently, readmission rates of HF patients are an area of great concern. The purpose of this benchmark project is to decrease HF readmission rates in adults who had a recent HF related hospitalization by providing comprehensive transitional care …

Nurse Practitioners In Healthcare Benchmark, Jun Cho Dec 2020

Nurse Practitioners In Healthcare Benchmark, Jun Cho

MSN Capstone Projects

With the shortage of physicians and rise of healthcare costs, it is imperative that healthcare start looking at the best alternative to take care of patients. With average life expectancy increasing and baby boomers entering Medicare, there will be more in need for providers. There are many uncertainties and questions concerning nurse practitioners practicing independently, compared to physicians, about overall care and patient satisfaction. There have been many evidence-based researches that shows nurse practitioners can provide just as efficient and safe care as compared to physicians.
