Personal Branding Strategies Of Female Entertainment Influencers On Tiktok, Shaofu Wang Dec 2020

Personal Branding Strategies Of Female Entertainment Influencers On Tiktok, Shaofu Wang

Theses

This thesis employs quantitative content analysis to investigate the strategies used by female entertainment influencers (FEI) on TikTok to attract followers. The study investigated the six FEIs with the most followers on the TikTok and Douyin (Chinese version of TikTok), three each from both platforms. This study focuses on the visual framework strategy as the theoretical basis to analyze female entertainment influencers’ videos (N=90). The results show that FEIs tend to wear casual clothes and shoot videos with simple backgrounds. Most shooting angles are half-length or full-body shots, which do not display multiple feminine movements in videos.

Regression analyses were …

Resilientxs: El Impacto De La Covid-19 En La Comunidad Trans Latinx De Nueva York, Oscar Molina, Ariel Goodman

Capstones

The Trans Latinx Community has been one of the most harmed due to the coronavirus pandemic in New York. According to a survey by the Williams Institute at the University of California Law School (UCLA), there were 17,300 self-identified transgender Latinas in 2016 in the State of New York. Most of them are people of color, undocumented, without any type of health insurance or job stability. To these vulnerabilities must be added the violence and prejudices that still exist against this community, which affect the equality of their rights.

There is no official data that shows how many transgender people …

On Every Corner, Paul Stremple

Capstones

Yemeni-Americans have made a place for themselves in New York City running corner stores across the five boroughs. As the city shuttered during the coronavirus, bodegas stayed open as “essential businesses” during the lockdown. Three different store owners, in Brooklyn and the Bronx, proved a resource for neighbors during an unprecedented year.

Asian Values And Democratic Viability: A Study Of The Effects Of Political Values On Thai Support For Democracy, Marisa Gonzalez-Mabbutt Dec 2020

Asian Values And Democratic Viability: A Study Of The Effects Of Political Values On Thai Support For Democracy, Marisa Gonzalez-Mabbutt

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Despite research found in the World Values Survey which indicates high global support for democracy, certain regions of the world have struggled to solidify or even introduce democratic institutions. Existing explanations such as the Asian Values Theory show mixed results that political culture in Asian countries decreases support for democracy. These studies also fail to look at country-specific political cultures within countries like Thailand, where national values play a distinct role in the political arena and could affect democratic support. Moreover, previous research has not disaggregated how competing values at the national, regional, and global levels can affect support for …

Biological Pretreatment Of Biomass For Enhanced Biogas Production, Skylar F. Van Horne Dec 2020

Biological Pretreatment Of Biomass For Enhanced Biogas Production, Skylar F. Van Horne

Undergraduate Honors Theses

The biogas output efficiency of controlled anaerobic digestion (AD) can be enhanced by several different pretreatment methods to produce renewable energy. According to the literature, there are pros and cons to each pretreatment method. Biological pretreatment provides environmentally safe and renewable means for enhancing biodegradability and net energy output. Current research has yet to reliably demonstrate the ability of bacterial strains, such as Caldicellulosiruptor bescii (C. bescii), to digest common waste substrates in efficient ways. Novel methods in key intermediate molecular quantification and alkalinity tracking are used here to explore C. bescii’s ability to digest lignocellulosic material in …

Development And Implementation Of An Orthopedic Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Protocol, Beth Mccoy

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Abstract

As life expectancy rates have grown and individuals desire a more active lifestyle the number of total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty surgeries performed has grown significantly. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have been shown to decrease the financial impact and improve patient outcomes in total joint surgeries. After a literature review a multidisciplinary team met and developed an ERAS protocol for total joint replacement surgeries to be implemented at a 250-bed community hospital in central Illinois. After an eleven-question pre-test was given to 34 participants consisting of perioperative nursing staff, anesthesia, and surgeons assessing their knowledge …

Impact Of A Standardized Neurologic Exam On Diagnosis Of And Referral Pattern For Neurologic Disorder In Pediatric Toe Walking, Allison Hotze Dec 2020

Impact Of A Standardized Neurologic Exam On Diagnosis Of And Referral Pattern For Neurologic Disorder In Pediatric Toe Walking, Allison Hotze

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Successful management of toe walking, a common patient complaint addressed by pediatric orthopedic providers, requires detection of concerning neurologic causes for toe walking. However, nurse practitioners in an outpatient orthopedic clinic were not following recommended guidelines for the history and physical exam for children who toe walk, resulting in delayed referrals and poorer patient outcomes. A performance improvement project was initiated that included an educational intervention, chart review, and data analysis. The goal was to improve the performance and documentation of neurologic exam when nurse practitioners saw patients for an initial visit for toe walking. A literature review provided evidence-based …

Improving Nurse Resilience, Brandon Hedgspeth Dec 2020

Improving Nurse Resilience, Brandon Hedgspeth

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

The national average nurse turnover rate was 18.2% in 2017 (Ackerson & Stiles, 2018). A contributing factor for nursing turnout rates was nurse burnout and compassion fatigue (Barratt, 2018; Cleary, Kornhaber, Thapa, West, & Visentin, 2018; Cope, Jones, & Hendricks, 2016; Magtibay, Chesak, Coughlin, & Sood, 2017; Delaney, 2018; Manomenidis, Panagopoulou, & Montgomery, 2019; Poulsen, 2015). Improvement in nurse resilience was revealed to reduce burnout and compassion fatigue in nurses (Ackerson & Stiles; Delaney). The primary goal of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the use and impact of resiliency education on the resiliency of nurses in the hospital …

Parechesis In The Undisputed Pauline Epistles Definition, Identification, And Discovery, Kevin Gingrich Dec 2020

Parechesis In The Undisputed Pauline Epistles Definition, Identification, And Discovery, Kevin Gingrich

Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation

Throughout the undisputed Pauline epistles (UPE), the author employs ancient rhetorical figures of soundplay. In particular, this dissertation focuses on a stylistic device known since Homer and named, a century or so after Paul, “parechesis.” Parechesis is sophisticated alliteration and refers to similar sounding words of different lexical roots that lie in some collocation. The device is so pervasive in Paul as to be deemed a defining characteristic of Pauline style.

“I Said, You Are Gods”: Pastoral Motives Manifest In Patristic Citations Of Psalm 82:6, Charles Schulz Dec 2020

“I Said, You Are Gods”: Pastoral Motives Manifest In Patristic Citations Of Psalm 82:6, Charles Schulz

Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation

The early church fathers frequently cited Ps. 82:6 (LXX 81:6), “I said, You are gods and all sons of the Most High,” a passage Jesus himself quoted (John 10:34) to defend his own title as the Son of God. Scholars agree that the patristic use of verse underwrote the developing doctrine of deification, which promised that Christians would become “gods” in some sense by bearing God’s image and likeness and participating in Christ and his saving work. In order to deepen and focus our understanding of the significance and role of this passage for patristic theology—and particularly for pastoral practice—this …

An Unsupervised Anomaly Detection Framework For Detecting Anomalies In Real Time Through Network System’S Log Files Analysis, Vannel Zeufack Dec 2020

An Unsupervised Anomaly Detection Framework For Detecting Anomalies In Real Time Through Network System’S Log Files Analysis, Vannel Zeufack

Master of Science in Computer Science Theses

Nowadays, in almost every computer system, log files are used to keep records of occurring events. Those log files are then used for analyzing and debugging system failures. Due to this important utility, researchers have worked on finding fast and efficient ways to detect anomalies in a computer system by analyzing its log records. Research in log-based anomaly detection can be divided into two main categories: batch log-based anomaly detection and streaming logbased anomaly detection. Batch log-based anomaly detection is computationally heavy and does not allow us to instantaneously detect anomalies. On the other hand, streaming anomaly detection allows for …

Determination And Dissection Of Dna-Binding Specificity For The Thermus Thermophilus Hb8 Transcriptional Regulator Tthb099, Kristi Moncja

Master of Science in Chemical Sciences Theses

Transcription factors (TFs) have been extensively researched in certain well-studied organisms but far less so in others. Following the whole-genome sequencing of a new organism, TFs are typically identified through their homology with related proteins in other organisms. However, recent findings demonstrate that structurally similar TFs from distantly related bacteria are not usually evolutionary orthologs. Here we explore TTHB099, a cAMP receptor protein (CRP)-family TF from the extremophile Thermus thermophilus HB8. Using the in vitro iterative selection method Restriction Endonuclease Protection, Selection and Amplification (REPSA), we identified the preferred DNA-binding motif for TTHB099, 5'-TGT(A/g)n(t/c)c(t/c)(a/g)g(a/g)n(T/c)ACA-3', and mapped potential binding sites, and …
