This research was aimed to study the effect of dietary taurine on the toxicity of oxidized cholesterol in male Wistar rats. The rats were divided into eight groups and fed different diets with or without supplement of 5% taurine and 3% oxidized cholesterol for 8 weeks. To evaluate effects of taurine at the same time, before diets and after diets in the food, after feeding diet with 3% oxidized cholesterol and 5% taurine at the same time, taurine could improve the decrease of body weight and the glutathione (GSH) level in the liver, and the increase of relative ratio of …
Rapid And Specific Detection Of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia Coli And Salmonella Strains By Multiplex Pcr Systems, S.-J. Wang
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
Escherichia coli and Salmonella are two of the most important food-borne bacterial pathogens. Classical identification for these strains is laborious, time-consuming, and may generate erroneous results. The purpose of this study was to develop a rapid and specific multiplex PCR (m-PCR) method to simultaneously detect heat labile enterotoxin gene of E. coli (LT ETEC) and oriC of Salmonella sp. Multiplex PCR using two pairs of primers produced specific amplicons of expected sizes of 163 bp and 425 bp from mixed populations of Salmonella sp. and LT ETEC bacterial strains, respectively. These primers were then used for the detection of food …

Spectrophotometric And Atomic Absorption Spectrometric Determination Of Cephalexin And Cephradine In Dosage Forms, S.M. Al-Ghannam
Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
This paper describes two simple, sensitive and selective spectrophotometric and atomic absorption spectrometric (AAS) procedures for the determination of two compounds of cephalosporins (Cephalexin monohydrate and Cephradine). These procedures are based on the formation of ion-pair complexes between the drugs and ammonium reineckate. The formed precipitates are quantitatively determined either spectrophotometrically or by AAS procedures. The methods consist of reacting drugs with Reinecke's salt in an acidic medium at a temperature of 25 ± 2°C. The spectrophotometric procedure (procedure I) is based on dissolving the formed precipitate with acetone. The volume was completed quantitatively and absorbance of the solution was …

Journal of Food and Drug Analysis
A novel spectrophotometric method for rapid quantification of acetaminophen in serum that is particularly suited for emergency usage is described. Free unconjugated acetaminophen is separated from other endogenous interferents by extracting the drug into ethyl acetate by simply using a vortex mixer. Subsequently, the cupric ions in the reagent are reduced by the phenolic hydroxyl groups present in the drug. The resultant cuprous ions then interacted with bicinchoninic acid (BCA) to form a chromophore which absorbs maximally at 562 nm. The proposed method has a linearity range from 50 to 400 μg/mL. The method was precise with day-to-day coefficients of …

UV radiation is widely considered as a major cause of skin pigmentation. Upon exposure to UV radiation, the melanocytes increase the production of intracellular nitric oxide, which triggers signal transduction cascades to initiate melanogenesis by tyrosinase. UV radiation also influences melanogenesis through a paracrine regulation process involving the keratinocytes. Although a number of hypopigmenting products have been developed, those from natural sources are preferred and will predominate in the cosmetics market. More active compounds such as phenols, flavonoids, coumarins and other derivatives have been identified from natural sources. This article summarized natural skin whitening products involving tyrosinase blockers like phenols …
