Chrysostom And Luther On The Intergenerational Character Of The Faith: Retrieving The God-Designed Parental Role In The Transmission Of The Faith To The Next Generation, Charles Samuel Voigt Ledebuhr, Charles Samuel Voigt Ledebuhr Mr.

Master of Art Theology Thesis

Ledebuhr, Charles S. V. “Chrysostom and Luther on the Intergenerational Character of the Faith: Retrieving the God-Designed Parental Role in the Transmission of the Faith to the Next Generation.” MA Thesis, Concordia Seminary, 2020. 167 pp.

Although hardly anyone would argue against the importance of parents in the faith formation of their children or that God commanded parents to pass on the faith to their children, there is still a clear tendency in the church to concentrate the teaching of the faith around the temple and the pastor rather than giving to the home and the parents the proper attention …

Multi-Objective Cuckoo Search Algorithm, Xingshi He, Li Na, Xinshe Yang, Yu Bing

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: It is challenging to solve multi-objective optimization problems with getting high-quality Pareto fronts accurately. The multi-objective Cuckoo Search algorithm (MOCS) was designed by firstly applying the recently developed Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CS) in solving Multi-objective optimization problems, and the fitness function based Pareto definiteness was improved, and the Gradual archive reduction method based on niche technology was proposed to improve the Archive solutions quality. The simulation test results and related performance indicators of nine test problems show that, MOCS algorithm is obviously improved in the aspect of the convergence, the diversity and the uniformity compared with the classic NSGA-II …

Selection should favor individuals that acquire, process, and act on relevant environmental signals to avoid predation. Studies have found that scorpions control their use of venom: both when it is released and the total volume expelled. However, this research has not included how a scorpion’s awareness of environmental features influences these decisions. The current study tested 18 Vaejovis carolinianus scorpions (nine females and nine males) by placing them in circular arenas supplied with varying numbers (zero, two, or four) of square refuges and by tracking their movements overnight. The following morning, defensive behaviors were elicited by prodding scorpions on the …

A Literature Review: An Analysis Of The Widespread Effects Of Solitary Confinement/Social Isolation On Mental Illness And Mortality, Taneasha Muonio

Theses and Graduate Projects

Solitary confinement or isolation is widespread globally and has been used as a form of punishment, reform, reflection, and cleansing throughout time. The devastating impacts of not having social interactions for extended periods of time have been documented and noted.1 These impacts include severe mental health disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicide, motor disturbances, biological changes, and increased mortality.1-3 The analysis of how the United States became the country with the largest prison system and mentally ill population is addressed in this thesis including understanding how the prison-industrial complex was built. Understanding how …

Hdac6 Mediates Macrophage Inos Expression And Excessive Nitric Oxide Production In The Blood During Endotoxemia, Yan Wang, Ke Wang, Jian Fu

Toxicology and Cancer Biology Faculty Publications

Excessive nitric oxide (NO) production and NO-mediated nitrative stress contribute to vascular dysfunction, inflammation, and tissue injury in septic shock. New therapeutic targets are urgently needed to provide better control of NO level during septic shock. In the present study, we investigated the role of HDAC6 in the regulation of NO production and nitrative stress in a mouse model of endotoxin-induced septic shock. HDAC6 deficient mice and a specific HDAC6 inhibitor were utilized in our studies. Our data clearly indicate that HDAC6 is an important mediator of NO production in macrophages. HDAC6 mediates NO production through the regulation of iNOS …

© 2020 Elsevier Inc. MitoNEET is a mitochondrial outer membrane protein that hosts a redox active [2Fe-2S] cluster in the C-terminal cytosolic domain. Increasing evidence has shown that mitoNEET has an essential role in regulating energy metabolism in human cells. Previously, we reported that the [2Fe-2S] clusters in mitoNEET can be reduced by the reduced flavin mononucleotide (FMNH2) and oxidized by oxygen or ubiquinone-2, suggesting that mitoNEET may act as a novel redox enzyme catalyzing electron transfer from FMNH2 to oxygen or ubiquinone. Here, we explore the FMN binding site in mitoNEET by using FMN analogs and find that lumiflavin, …

Overview Of Environmental Stressors, Avian Diseases, And Contaminants In South American Seabirds, Hunter Boykin

All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations

Diseases and contaminants found along the South American marine environment are known to impact important seabird species, including the Peruvian pelican (Pelecanus thagus), Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti), Guanay cormorant (Phalacrocorax bougainvillii), Peruvian booby (Sula variegate), and Inca tern (Larosterna inca). These seabirds are primarily found along the coast of Peru where they compete for nest sites and prey. The Punta San Juan guano reserve, where these species are located, is affected by periodic environmental fluctuations such as El Niño and La Niña. These fluctuations cause changes in wind patterns and sea …

The importance of how classroom discourse can be used to support science learning has gained national attention with respect to both science teaching and research across K12 and higher education. In this review article, we examine a commonly referenced set of nine frameworks for use inscienceclassrooms. Specifically, we examine the ways in which various frameworks emphasize the structure (i.e.,form) or practical use (i.e.,function) of language across classroom settings, and the impact of such an emphasis on the facilitation and analysis of science classroom discourse. The findings from this review should help researchers investigate and educators facilitate classroom discourse in ways …

Evans Syndrome Associated With Pregnancy And Covid-19 Infection, Gayathri Vadlamudi, Leah Hong, Madhurima Keerthy

Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health Services Articles

Background: Evans syndrome (ES) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by autoimmune hemolytic anemia along with immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Few case reports of ES in pregnancy have been published, and ES may be difficult to distinguish from other diagnoses more common in pregnancy. Guidelines for treatment of ES are not well-defined.

Case: A 23-year-old multigravid woman in active labor was found to have severe anemia and thrombocytopenia. She was diagnosed with ES and started on immunosuppressive treatments for persistent immune thrombocytopenic purpura. In the postpartum period, she was found to have coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and acute pulmonary embolism.

Conclusion: Evans …

Beauvoir In Time, Meryl Altman Aug 2020

Beauvoir In Time, Meryl Altman

English Faculty publications

Beauvoir in Time situates Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex in the historical context of its writing and in later contexts of its international reception, from then till now. The book takes up three aspects of Beauvoir's work more recent feminists find embarrassing: "bad sex," "dated" views about lesbians, and intersections with race and class. Through close reading of Beauvoir's writing in many genres, alongside contemporaneous discourses (good and bad novels in French and English, outmoded psychoanalytic and sexological authorities, ethnographic surrealism, the writing of Richard Wright and Franz Fanon), and in light of her travels to the U.S. and …

Senescence-Accelerated Mouse-Prone 8 (SAMP8) mice exhibit characteristics of premature aging, including hair loss, cognitive dysfunction, reduced physical activity, impaired metabolic homeostasis, cardiac dysfunction and reduced lifespan. Interestingly, circadian disruption can induce or augment many of these same pathologies. Moreover, previous studies have reported that SAMP8 mice exhibit abnormalities in circadian wheel-running behavior, indicating possible alterations in circadian clock function. These observations led to the hypothesis that 24 h rhythms in behavior and/or circadian clock function are altered in SAMP8 mice and that these alterations may contribute to perturbations in whole-body metabolism. Here, we report that 6-month-old SAMP8 mice exhibit a …

The naive heart harbors a population of intravascular B cells that make close contact with the cardiac microvasculature. However, the timing of their appearance and their organ specificity remain unknown. To address this knowledge gap, we performed a systematic analysis of B cells isolated from the myocardium and other organs, from embryonic life to adulthood. We found that the phenotype of myocardial B cells changed dynamically during development. While neonatal heart B cells were mostly CD11b+ and CD11b- CD21-CD23-, adult B cells were predominantly CD11b-CD21+CD23+. Histological analysis and intravital microscopy of lung and liver showed that organ-associated B cells in …

Implikasi Biogeografi Dari Variasi Dna Mitokondria Pada Suku Sunda, Iman P. Maksum, Wanda Destiarani, Riezki Amalia, Salsabila Shofia, Rizky Rafi Rahmawan
