Headwaters Fed By Subterranean Ice: Potential Climate Refugia For Mountain Stream Communities?, Lusha M. Tronstad, Scott Hotaling, J. Joseph Giersch, Debra S. Finn

Western North American Naturalist

Near-term extirpations of macroinvertebrates are predicted for mountain streams worldwide as a warming climate drives the recession of high-elevation ice and snow. However, hydrological sources likely vary in their resistance to climate change, and thus streams fed by more resistant sources could persist as climate refugia for imperiled biota. In 2015–2016, we measured habitat characteristics and quantified macroinvertebrate community structure along 6 alpine streams in the Teton Range, Wyoming, USA. Strong differences in habitat characteristics (e.g., temperature, bed stability, conductivity) confirmed 3 major stream sources: surface glaciers, perennial snowfields, and subterranean ice. Subterranean ice-fed streams—termed “icy seeps”—appear common in the …

Covalent Organic Frameworks As An Organic Scaffold For Heterogeneous Catalysis Including C-H Activation, Harsh Vardhan Oct 2020

Covalent Organic Frameworks As An Organic Scaffold For Heterogeneous Catalysis Including C-H Activation, Harsh Vardhan

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Linking small organic molecules into an extended solid usually afford disordered amorphous polymers. The instigation of order into such a material is of profound interest to induce inherent fine control of the overall structure. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are new class of porous crystalline material prepared by connecting organic building blocks via strong covalent bonds. The judicious choice of organic monomers can give rise to highly ordered and predictable frameworks with high crystallinity, surface area, and thermal/chemical stability. The role of connecting linkages such as B─O, C─C, C─N extends the principle of fundamental molecular covalent chemistry to the formation of …

Primary T-Cell Lymphoma Of The Testis Presenting In A Young Adult, Mounia Bendari, Matrane Wafaa, Qachouh Mereym, Quessar Asmaa, Khoubila Nisrine

Health Sciences

We report the case of a 40-year-old male presented with a painless right testicular swelling. Right radical orchidectomy was performed. The pathological diagnosis was peripheral T-Cell lymphoma-not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS). According to Ann Arbor staging, the initial clinical stage was IEa. Treating him with four courses of the CHOEP protocol and intrathecal prophylactic chemotherapy was unsuccessful; with the appearance of orbital infiltration and a loco-regional extension. Although the patient started a second line chemotherapy, he unfortunately succumbed to death.

Dried Amniotic Membrane Grafting As An Adjuvant To Canal Wall-Down Procedure In Pediatric Cholesteatoma, Mohammad M. Gaballah

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

Purpose To evaluate the effect of dried amniotic membrane grafting on healing of radical cavity after canal wall-down procedure. Patients and methods A total of 24 cases were included. All had canal wall-down surgery done with the use of dried amniotic membrane at the end of procedure to line the radical cavity. According to the course of healing, cases were divided into four groups regarding wideness and dryness of cavity. Results were statistically analyzed. Results Among the 24 patients in the postoperative follow-up period of 6 months, only three (12.5%) patients needed revision meatoplasty for having narrow and wet cavities. …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This research carried out a systematic review of the evidence of reliability and validity of scales available in studies reporting surveys of individuals to assess anxiety associated with information related tasks such as library anxiety, information seeking anxiety, and information anxiety. A systematic search using keywords ‘library anxiety’, ‘information anxiety’, 'information seeking anxiety', and 'information seeking' AND 'anxiety' was carried in Web of Science, Scopus, LISA, and LISTA to identify the relevant literature. This review included those studies reporting the use of any scale assessing information related anxiety, and published in the English language, and included all type of documents …

Transplantation Of Non-Cultured Automelanocytes In Combination With Hair Follicule Suspension In The Treatment Of Vitiligo, U. Yu. Sabirov, F. V. Azimova, B. A. Toirov

Central Asian Journal of Medicine

Background. Progressive development and significant advances in the field of cellular biology and technologies, developmental physiology and gene engineering resulted in the formation of a new era and branch of medicine — regenerative medicine. This new branch includes science-based and safe approaches for creating new cells and tissues and restoring the structure and functions of damaged ones. The objective of the regenerative medicine is to replace or regenerate human cells, tissues, or organs. Such a replacement helps to recover the normal function that has been lost. An important change in the paradigm of regenerative medicine is the switching to a …

Method For Experimental Modeling Of Diabetic Angiopathy, Alisher O. Okhunov, Inayat S. Sattarov, Feruza Kh. Inoyatova, Shukhrat R. Razzakov

Central Asian Journal of Medicine

These methods of modeling diabetic microangiopathy have their own distinctive aspects, separated by the mechanisms of their reproduction. Reproduction of the model of diabetes mellitus, taking into account the pathogenetic significance of the role of sorbitol in the development of angiopathy, allows us to obtain the possibility of studying microangiopathy at a reliable level.
