The Sacramento River Basin (SRB) and the San Joaquin River Basin (JRB) have a history of recurring droughts. Both are important for California, being the crucial source of water supply. The available instrumental records may not depict the long-term hydrologic variability encompassing the duration and frequency of the historic low flow events. Thus, streamflow reconstruction becomes important in the current scenario of climatic alteration, escalating population and growing water needs. A long‐standing problem in biology is how to dissect traits for which no tractable model exists. Here, we screen for genes like the nude locus (Foxn1)—genes central to mammalian hair and thymus development—using animals that never evolved hair, thymi, or Foxn1. Fruit flies are morphologically disrupted by the FOXN1 transcription factor and rescued by weak reductions in fly gene function, revealing molecules that potently synergize with FOXN1 to effect dramatic, chaotic change. Strong synergy/effectivity in flies is expected to reflect strong selection/functionality (purpose) in mammals; the more disruptive a molecular interaction is in alien contexts (flies), the more beneficial it …

In this report, a dopamine electrochemical sensor based on metal-substituted polyoxometalates and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite was successfully constructed. The K2H2SiW11NiO39·xH2O (SiW11Ni) was synthesized by hydrothermal method, while the RGO was prepared by Hummers' method and chemical reduction method. The above-mentioned materials were characterized by SEM, FTIR and XRD. Beyond Wildlife Crime: Towards The Concept Of ‘Mundane Fauna Crime’, Orlando Goodall

Research and theorisation on crimes against non-human species in rural regions have been conducted with less conceptual refinement than crimes against anthropocentric victims. The dominant conception of ‘wildlife crime’ predominantly advanced by the rational choice school of criminology is a nebulous ‘chaotic concept’. This article disaggregates crimes against common and relatively abundant species from that capacious categorisation and offers the original concept of ‘mundane fauna crime’ as a more precise alternative. The original concept aims to supersede the wildlife crime terminology using realist social relations theory and to offer researchers a rational abstraction to advance aetiological explanations. A Distant Reading Of Khamphun Bunthawi’S Luk Isan (A Child Of The Northeast) As World Literature, Ram Prasansak

This article offers a distant reading of Khamphun Bunthawi’s Luk Isan (A Child of the Northeast) as world literature. By attending to its production, circulation, translation, and reception in an interlocking literary system, it shows that the novel borrows the bildungsroman form from an American children’s novel. This borrowing underlines the role of translated literature and editors in establishing a profoundly unequal relationship between the Western core and peripheral literatures. This article also examines the English translation of Luk Isan. It argues that while the translation creates an intertext that aids Anglophone audiences in comprehending the novel’s foreignness, it …

This article addresses the complex issue of plastic pollution—focusing on ocean plastics. Specifically, this article examines the ocean plastics problem, critiques current binding and non-binding international environmental law surrounding ocean plastics, hazardous wastes, and pollution, and proposes a more effective solution to the ocean plastics problem. Section I provides a basic history of the creation of plastics and discusses plastics as they are used today. An Australian Conundrum: Genomic Technology, Data, And The Covidsafe App, David Morrison, Patrick T. Quirk

This paper examines the difficulties that have arisen in Australia in the use of its contact-tracing app. We examine the privacy implications around the use of the app, the wider economic imperative, and the balancing of those concerns against the health threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. We posit that default options are superior in times of emergency and rather than begging for the adoption of lifesaving technology, we suggest that the evidence gathered by behavioral economists provides an apposite and powerful alternative worthy of consideration.

It is a survey that investigated the correlation between student librarians’ empathic behaviour and their academic achievement. The study employed correlation design with area of study covering ten universities’ library schools in Nigeria. Sickle cell disease is a severe hereditary disease caused by an abnormality of the red blood cells. The current therapeutic decision-making process applied to sickle cell disease includes monitoring a patient’s symptoms and complications and then adjusting the treatment accordingly. This process is time-consuming, which might result in serious consequences for patients’ lives and could lead to irreversible disease complications. lastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), an extremely rare and aggressive tumor, derives from plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors and is characterized by CD4 and CD56 positivity accompanied by the expression of isolated myeloid, B- or T-cell lineage markers. Despite the recent introduction of specific targeted therapies, prognosis is still poor with a median overall survival of one year, and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation remains the only curative treatment in eligible patients. Hiccups are a ventilatory mechanism involuntarily involving the inspiratory muscles and the glottis, Its physiological interest has not been demonstrated until today. Acute or chronic hiccups have a wide variety of etiologies. We report the case of a 50-year-old patient with a history of iterative sinusitis, who consulted a gastroenterologist for persistent hiccups. The patient's clinical examination was normal. Chest x-ray showing an abnormal mediastinal image leads to a chest CT scan showing a typical picture of COVID-19 virus infection: bilateral and peripheral frosted glass opacities. The purpose is using the occlusive hydrocolloid dressing (OHD) and gauze dressing (GD) to compare incidence of infection of wound and cost-effectiveness of dressing after hernia operation in children. Eighty children were undergoing hernia surgery, wounds were dressing by OHD or GD. Hydrocolloid dressing was remaining till suture was removed, and GD changed every day after operation. Calculations of cost dressing mean dressing alterations frequency and cost for each dressing in every treatment cluster. Blood-based biomarkers could represent a considerable advantage in providing AD-risk information in primary care settings. Here, we report new data for a relatively unknown blood-based biomarker that holds promise for AD diagnosis. We evaluate a p53-misfolding conformation rec-ognized by the antibody 2D3A8, also named Unfolded p53 (U-p532D3A8+), in 375 plasma samples derived from InveCe.Ab and PharmaCog/E-ADNI longitudinal studies. The use of insensitive munitions such as 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO) is rapidly increasing and is expected to replace conventional munitions in the near future. Various NTO treatment technologies are being developed for the treatment of wastewater from industrial munition facilities. This is the first study to explore the potential phytoremediation of industrial NTO-wastewater using vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides L.). Here, we present evidence that vetiver can effectively remove NTO from wastewater, and also translocated NTO from root to shoot.
