The museum as an institution devoted to cultural preservation began to utilize social media as a medium of communication to the public. Some museums around the world since the early 2000s have used social media to create a new face or rebrand in giving an update to the public. Generally, the term for museums that utilize technology in practice, is called Museum 2.0. In this research, researchers aimed to explore Instagram content as a medium of historical education through qualitative content analysis. The formulation of the problem in this research is to know how the contents of the National Museum …

Inhibition Of Oxidative Metabolism By Nitric Oxide Restricts Emcv Replication Selectively In Pancreatic Beta-Cells, Joshua D. Stafford, Chay Teng Yeo, John A. Corbett
Biological Sciences Faculty Research & Creative Works
Environmental factors, such as viral infection, are proposed to play a role in the initiation of autoimmune diabetes. In response to encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) infection, resident islet macrophages release the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1b, to levels that are sufficient to stimulate inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression and production of micromolar levels of the free radical nitric oxide in neighboring b-cells. We have recently shown that nitric oxide inhibits EMCV replication and EMCV-mediated b-cell lysis and that this protection is associated with an inhibition of mitochondrial oxidative metabolism. Here we show that the protective actions of nitric oxide against EMCV infection …

A Study On An Accurate Underwater Location Of Hybrid Underwater Gliders Using Machine Learning, Sang-Ki Jeong, Hyeung-Sik Choi, Dea-Hyung Ji, Mai The Vu, Joon-Young Kim, Sung Min Hong, Hyun Joon Cho
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
A hybrid underwater glider (HUG) is marine observation equipment that consumes a small amount of energy and offers greater range and navigation times. To achieve reduced energy consumption, however, the HUG uses imprecise navigation sensors, such as mems-type GPS and AHRS, resulting in inaccurate coordination. This study makes a new attempt on the application of machine learning algorithms in a way that complements sensor data errors to improve navigation performance. The proposed algorithm was used to a simulation of the HUG’s navigation and control system, after which the updated heading angle was decided by using the previous position data and …

Prisons And Pandemics, Camila Strassle, Benjamin E. Berkman
San Diego Law Review
This Article focuses on how to balance public health, public safety, and incarcerated people’s legal rights when implementing a program for early release from confinement. Ethical, epidemiological, and legal arguments all point to a need for an immediate reduction in the incarcerated population. However, this leaves open several points of reasonable disagreement about how to manage early release. These include how to set priorities for processing and releasing individuals across the country. For example, officials could prioritize screening individuals who are housed in facilities that have been hit hard by infection; or by screening individuals who have a safe place …

Cardiology Articles
BACKGROUND: Unlike β(1)- and β(2)-adrenergic receptors (ARs), β(3)-AR stimulation inhibits cardiac contractility and relaxation. In the failing left ventricular (LV) myocardium, β(3)-ARs are upregulated, and can be maladaptive in the setting of decompensation by contributing to LV dysfunction. This study examined the effects of intravenous (i.v.) infusions of the β(3)-AR antagonist APD418 on cardiovascular function and safety in dogs with systolic heart failure (HF).
METHODS AND RESULTS: Three separate studies were performed in 21 dogs with coronary microembolization-induced HF (LV ejection fraction [LVEF] of approximately 35%). Studies 1 and 2 (n = 7 dogs each) were APD418 dose escalation studies …

The ecological health of port environments, which are dynamic and hotspots of anthropogenic activities, can be analyzed using specific pathogenic bacteria as they provide definite evidence and source of pollution. The influence of seasons and environmental settings on total bacterial count (TBC), distribution of fecal indicators, and Vibrio spp. was explored in Visakhapatnam port, located along the east coast of India. South-west monsoon had a significant influence on TBC, fecal indicators, and Vibrio spp., and the abundance was influenced by the eutrophic environment in the inner harbour. Fecal indicators were one order higher in sub-surface water when compared with sediment, …

Agricultural wastes are very diverse in type and have low nutrient values, especially in lignin and cellulose, which are difficult to digest. One way of overcoming this problem is by biological treatment using microorganisms, also known as silage. The availability of bio-activators that are both cost-efficient and easy to make further suggests that using local microorganisms may be an effective possible solution. This study focused on processing food crop waste (corn leaves) into silage using local microorganisms as the bio-activators. Research took place in the Agrotechnology Laboratory, University of Jember. The experimental design was completely randomized with four treatments: Treatment …

The emission of greenhouse gases, including high CO2 and other materials, initiates global warming and climate change. Atmospheric CO2 that affects the carbonate system of seawater causes ocean acidification (OA). OA affects marine organisms directly, as well as humans economically and ecologically. Considering the high impact of OA and following the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, systematic research and monitoring of OA is necessary in Indonesia, whose seas play an important role in this emerging phenomenon. This review discusses the urgency of OA monitoring systems and suggests carbonate system monitoring, as well as carbon biogeochemistry. OA significantly affects marine production …

Liupan Shan lies between the Tibetan plateau and Ordos block and has been under the remote effect of the northeastward extension of the Tibetan plateau. The former research about the uplift of Liupan Shan mainly focused on the petrology, structural deformation or tectonic evolution study from the Cretaceous to early period of Cenozoic. However, the Late Pleistocene geological study closely connected with the human activities was rarely mentioned. In this study, we carried out systematic sedimentary research in the Qingshuihe basin adjacent to the Liupan Shan tectonic belt, re-determine the sedimentary sequence at first, then reverse the uplift history of …

Two Approaches To Measure Trace Metals Fluxes At The Sediment–Water Interface: Sediment Porewater Profile And Benthic Incubation, Harmesa, Wahyudi Johan
ASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development
The biogeochemical cycle of trace metals is very likely affected by the global change in the ocean, especially due to the increasing of sea surface temperature and acidity. Thus, assessing biogeochemical cycle of trace metals will beneficial in elucidating the potential impact of climate change as well as ocean acidification. The assessment of the biogeochemical cycle of trace metals can be performed by measuring trace metals fluxes crossing the sediment–water interface. The main challenge in this measurement is the difficulty of measuring metal concentrations at trace levels due to either physical factors or biological factors that can affect the total …
