Exact Solutions Of Two Nonlinear Space-Time Fractional Differential Equations By Application Of Exp-Function Method, Elahe M. Eskandari, Nasir Taghizadeh
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, we discuss on the exact solutions of the nonlinear space-time fractional Burgerlike equation and also the nonlinear fractional fifth-order Sawada-Kotera equation with the expfunction method. We use the functional derivatives in the sense of Riemann-Jumarie derivative and fractional convenient variable transformation in this study. Further, we obtain some exact analytical solutions including hyperbolic function.
Accurate Spectral Algorithms For Solving Variable-Order Fractional Percolation Equations, M. A. Abdelkawy
Accurate Spectral Algorithms For Solving Variable-Order Fractional Percolation Equations, M. A. Abdelkawy
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
A high accurate spectral algorithm for one-dimensional variable-order fractional percolation equations (VO-FPEs) is considered. We propose a shifted Legendre Gauss-Lobatto collocation (SL-GLC) method in conjunction with shifted Chebyshev Gauss-Radau collocation (SC-GR-C) method to solve the proposed problem. Firstly, the solution and its space fractional derivatives are expanded as shifted Legendre polynomials series. Then, we determine the expansion coefficients by reducing the VO-FPEs and its conditions to a system of ordinary differential equations (SODEs) in time. The numerical approximation of SODEs is achieved by means of the SC-GR-C method. The under-study’s problem subjected to the Dirichlet or non-local boundary conditions is presented …
Classification Of Some First Order Functional Differential Equations With Constant Coefficients To Solvable Lie Algebras, J. Z. Lobo, Y. S. Valaulikar
Classification Of Some First Order Functional Differential Equations With Constant Coefficients To Solvable Lie Algebras, J. Z. Lobo, Y. S. Valaulikar
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, we shall apply symmetry analysis to some first order functional differential equations with constant coefficients. The approach used in this paper accounts for obtaining the inverse of the classification. We define the standard Lie bracket and make a complete classification of some first order linear functional differential equations with constant coefficients to solvable Lie algebras. We also classify some nonlinear functional differential equations with constant coefficients to solvable Lie algebras.

Dynamical Behavior Of An Eco-Epidemiological Model Incorporating Prey Refuge And Prey Harvesting, Dawit Melese, Ousman Muhye, Subrata K. Sahu
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper an eco-epidemiological model incorporating a prey refuge and prey harvesting with disease in the prey-population is considered. Predators are assumed to consume both the susceptible and infected prey at different rates. The positivity and boundedness of the solution of the system are discussed. The existence and stability of the biologically feasible equilibrium points are investigated. Numerical simulations are performed to support our analytical findings.
Explicit Formulas For Solutions Of Maxwell’S Equations In Conducting Media, Valery Yakhno
Explicit Formulas For Solutions Of Maxwell’S Equations In Conducting Media, Valery Yakhno
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
A new explicit presentation of the fundamental solution of the time-dependent Maxwell’s equations in conducting isotropic media is derived by Hadamard techniques through the fundamental solution of the telegraph operator. This presentation is used to obtain explicit formulas for generalized solutions of the initial value problem for Maxwell’s equations. A new explicit Kirchhoff’s formula for the classical solution of the initial value problem for the Maxwell equations in conducting media is derived. The obtained explicit formulas can be used in the boundary integral method, Green’s functions method and for computation of electric and magnetic fields in conducting media and materials.

Approximate Solutions For The Nonlinear Systems Of Algebraic Equations Using The Power Series Method, M. M. Khader, M. Adel
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, the approximate solutions for systems of nonlinear algebraic equations by the power series method (PSM) are presented. Illustrative examples have been presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. In addition, the obtained results are compared with those obtained from the standard Adomian decomposition method. It turns out that the convergence of the proposed algorithm is rapid.

On An Ecological Model Of Mutualisim Between Two Species With A Mortal Predator, Srinivasarao Thota
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, we study an ecological model of a three-space food chain consists of two logically growing mutual species and third species acts as a predator to second mutual species with Holling type II functional response. This model is constituted by a system of nonlinear decoupled ordinary differential equations. By using perturbed method, we identify the nature of the system at each equilibrium point and also global stability is investigated for this model using Lypanov function at the possible equilibrium points.
Lightgwas: A Novel Machine Learning Procedure For Genome-Wide Association Study, Ambrozio Bruno, Luca Longo, Lucas Rizzo
Lightgwas: A Novel Machine Learning Procedure For Genome-Wide Association Study, Ambrozio Bruno, Luca Longo, Lucas Rizzo
Articles
This paper proposes a novel machine learning procedure for genome-wide association study (GWAS), named LightGWAS. It is based on the LightGBM framework, in addition to being a single, resilient, autonomous and scalable solution to address common limitations of GWAS implementations found in the literature. These include reliance on massive manual quality control steps and specific GWAS methods for each type of dataset morphology and size. Through this research, LightGWAS has been contrasted against PLINK2, one of the current state-of-the-art for GWAS implementations based on general linear model with support to firth regularisation. The mean differences measured upon standard classification metrics, …
Functional Compartmentalization Of Mlck In Fetal Arteries, Dane William Sorensen
Functional Compartmentalization Of Mlck In Fetal Arteries, Dane William Sorensen
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Changes in vascular structure and reactivity are amongst the most important that occur during the transition from fetal to newborn life, and are guided by the principle of ensuring adequate coupling of blood flow to metabolism. A clinical consequence of maladaptive fetal vascular adaptation to hypoxia is an increased probability for loss of cerebral autoregulation, increased risk for neonatal encephalopathy, and hypoxicischemic cerebral injury. MLCK is a very specific calcium-calmodulin dependent enzyme, with its only known substrate being MLC20, and is essential for the ability of VSMCs within resistance arteries to appropriately contract or relax in response to changes in …
Role Of Β-Glucan Structure In Dectin-1 Homo- And Hetero-Oligomerization In Innate Anti-Fungal Immunity, Eduardo U. Anaya
Role Of Β-Glucan Structure In Dectin-1 Homo- And Hetero-Oligomerization In Innate Anti-Fungal Immunity, Eduardo U. Anaya
Biomedical Sciences ETDs
Dectin-1A is a C-type Lectin innate immunoreceptor that recognizes β-(1,3)-glucan, a structural component of Candida species cell walls. Dectin-1 has eight alternative splice isoforms including, A and B. Innate immunocytes can express one or both isoforms, but neither their relative responsiveness to β-glucan nor the potential for inter-isoform signaling cross-talk is well understood. In this study, we determine how the different structures of soluble β-glucans affect both isoforms and unravel how differences in glucan structure impact the earliest events in Dectin-1 signaling. Using quantitative microscopy techniques, we explored the role of glucan structure on Dectin-1A oligomerization, which is thought to …

Disruption Of Dna Polymerase Zeta Promotes An Innate Immune Response, Sara Martin
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
DNA polymerase ζ (pol ζ) is a specialized polymerase that protects cells from the consequences of DNA damage and stress. Without pol ζ function mammalian cells and yeast are exquisitely sensitive to genotoxic stresses including ultraviolet irradiation and platinum compounds such as the chemotherapeutic agent cisplatin. This elevated sensitivity arises from the central role of pol ζ in lesion bypass. Pol ζ is also required to protect cells from endogenous genomic damage or stress. In primary mammalian cells, the function of pol ζ is required for genome protection and normal proliferation. Immortalized Rev3lknockout (KO) MEFs are under considerable constitutive …
Calcium Dyshomeostasis In Neurodegeneration, Nicholas Emanuel Karagas
Calcium Dyshomeostasis In Neurodegeneration, Nicholas Emanuel Karagas
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Neurodegenerative diseases, despite constituting a major and growing cause of mortality globally, have few effective treatments. In order to develop novel therapeutics to combat neurodegeneration, a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases is needed. Neurons rely on Ca2+ to mediate many of their unique functions, and aberrant Ca2+ signaling has been broadly implicated in neurodegeneration. The goal of this dissertation is to delineate specific examples of Ca2+ dyshomeostasis that I have uncovered in Drosophila models of neurodegeneration.
I first define the role a neurodegeneration-associated mutation plays in perturbing presynaptic [Ca2+], which is …
Inducible Epithelial Resistance Against Acute Viral Pneumonia And Chronic Asthma, Shradha Wali
Inducible Epithelial Resistance Against Acute Viral Pneumonia And Chronic Asthma, Shradha Wali
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Viral pneumonia remains a global health threat despite worldwide vaccination and therapeutic programs. The influenza pandemic of 1918 and SARS-CoV2 pandemic of 2019-2020 are cautionary reminders demanding the need for novel treatment strategies. Moreover, in addition to causing acute disease, respiratory virus infections are often complicated by chronic lung pathologies, such as asthma induction, progression, and exacerbation. We have reported that mice treated with a combination of inhaled Toll-like receptor (TLR) 2/6 and TLR 9 agonists (Pam2-ODN) to stimulate innate immunity are broadly protected against respiratory pathogens, but the mechanisms underlying this protection remain incompletely elucidated. Here, we show in …

Effect Of Marketing Through Value Added And Video Sales On Feeder Cattle Prices, Amanda Trotter
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Feeder cattle marketing opportunities for producers in Missouri continue to expand. Missouri ranks within the top ten U.S. States in beef cow inventory and is a major feeder calf exporter. Selecting the appropriate marketing opportunity can have a dramatic impact on the income of the cattle producer. Feeder cattle marketing opportunities include value-added program sales, video auctions, as well as the traditional live cattle auction. A long-term study comparing these marketing opportunities in a single livestock market in Missouri has not been conducted. The objective of this study is to analyze cattle characteristics that can influence market price in feeder …
Fish And Macroinvertebrate Response To Restoration And Conservation Efforts, Madison C. Cogar
Fish And Macroinvertebrate Response To Restoration And Conservation Efforts, Madison C. Cogar
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Fish and macroinvertebrate response to restoration and conservation efforts varies in regards to the size and structure of the system (e.g. headwater streams in WV versus large rivers such as the Mississippi River). This project reviews fish and macroinvertebrate rebound in treated acid mine drainage (AMD) streams in WV as well as macroinvertebrate drift patterns in the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. AMD is a product of a chemical reaction resulting in an acidic water outflow from mining sites, which may harm aquatic life. As a response, passive AMD treatment systems have been installed. I tested the effectiveness of remediation by …

Spatial Use By Mammals Within Two State Parks In The Ozarks National Scenic Riverways, Benjamin Aaron Smith
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
A mammalian species inventory with comparisons between sampled sites was conducted via multiple methodologies to document presence of mammals at two Missouri state parks within the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Camera traps, small mammal traps, acoustic detectors, and mist nets were used to detect species at the parks, and species similarity indices and occupancy analyses were used to discern use of space. A mammalian inventory was compiled for each area of inquiry. Greater diversity was found at the park with more variable habitat types. Bat activity was more in the park with a known hibernaculum, though species specific activity differed …

Larval Fish Sampling And Scaphirhynchus Sturgeon Drift Dynamics In The Mississippi And Missouri Rivers, Hae Hyun Kim
Larval Fish Sampling And Scaphirhynchus Sturgeon Drift Dynamics In The Mississippi And Missouri Rivers, Hae Hyun Kim
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Humans have been altering the natural ecosystem for centuries. These alterations provide many socioeconomic benefits (e.g., navigation and flood-control). However, these alterations can have negative ecological consequences. Large rivers across the country have been manipulated to facilitate various human activities. Rivers are dynamic systems governed by various abiotic and biotic factors. Ultimately these alterations change the natural biogeochemical cycles and reduce available habitats. These impacts likely affect riverine fishes’ ability to carry out their lifecycle. Riverine organisms, and particularly fish, have adapted to survive in free-flowing systems. Population dynamics (i.e., recruitment, growth and mortality) are the basis of fisheries management. …

Determining A Method For Expressing And Purifying Cytochrome P450 4v2: A Protein Involved In Bietti's Crystalline Dystrophy, Cody Lane Turner
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Within the Cytochrome P450 class of enzymes, there are a group known as the “orphan” cytochromes. The “orphan” classification comes from the poorly understood in vivo functionality and substrate specificity. Cytochrome P450 4V2 (CYP4V2) is one of these “orphans” and belongs to the CYP4 family. The CYP4 family is known for the omega oxidation of endogenous fatty acids. This family is most commonly found on chromosome 1 (CYP4ABXZ). CYP4V2 is unique in that its location is bound to chromosome 4 as discovered by Jiao in 2004. Mutations within the CYP4V2 gene have been associated with the …
The Role Of Rna Editing Within Calcium-Dependent Activator For Secretion 1 In Large Dense Core Vesicle Fusion, Kaylee M. Mathiason
The Role Of Rna Editing Within Calcium-Dependent Activator For Secretion 1 In Large Dense Core Vesicle Fusion, Kaylee M. Mathiason
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Calcium-dependent activator protein for secretion 1 (CAPS1) is involved in synaptic vesicle and large dense core vesicle fusion by bridging vesicles and the plasma membrane prior to vesicle fusion and cargo release. CAPS1 is subject to a post-transcriptional modification called RNA editing. RNA editing recodes a single amino acid in the region of the protein that interacts with the vesicle. This recoding event within CAPS1 has cellular consequences in neurons where edited CAPS1 overexpression increases basal secretion from neural synaptic vesicles. Our goal was to investigate how RNA editing within CAPS1 affects large dense core vesicle secretion in an insulinoma …

While classic models for the emergence of pastoral groups in Inner Asia describe mounted, horse-borne herders sweeping across the Eurasian Steppes during the Early or Middle Bronze Age (ca. 3000–1500 BCE), the actual economic basis of many early pastoral societies in the region is poorly characterized. In this paper, we use collagen mass fingerprinting and ancient DNA analysis of some of the first stratified and directly dated archaeofaunal assemblages from Mongolia’s early pastoral cultures to undertake species identifications of this rare and highly fragmented material. Our results provide evidence for livestock-based, herding subsistence in Mongolia during the late 3rd and …

Honey bees are critical pollinators in ecosystems and agriculture, but their numbers have significantly declined. Declines in pollinator populations are thought to be due to multiple factors including habitat loss, climate change, increased vulnerability to disease and parasites, and pesticide use. Neonicotinoid pesticides are agonists of insect nicotinic cholinergic receptors, and sub-lethal exposures are linked to reduced honey bee hive survival. Honey bees are highly dependent on circadian clocks to regulate critical behaviors, such as foraging orientation and navigation, time-memory for food sources, sleep, and learning/memory processes. Because circadian clock neurons in insects receive light input through cholinergic signaling we …
Governance Of Emerging Technologies As A Wicked Problem, Gary E. Marchant
Governance Of Emerging Technologies As A Wicked Problem, Gary E. Marchant
Vanderbilt Law Review
Governance of emerging technologies . . . presents a conundrum. No single optimum solution exists, but rather a collection of second-best strategies intersect, coexist, and—in some ways—compete. This situation seems unsatisfactory until it is observed through the lens of the “wicked problem” framework. The wicked problem concept recognizes there is often no single, optimal solution to such a problem, but rather a mix of substandard solutions that must “satisfice.” That is the best that can be done with a wicked problem. This also may be the best solution for the governance-of-emerging-technologies problem.
This Article discusses the advantages of using the …
Stress, Wellbeing, And Support For Students & School Staff, Alexis Sanchez, Nathaniel Von Der Embse
Stress, Wellbeing, And Support For Students & School Staff, Alexis Sanchez, Nathaniel Von Der Embse
Policy Brief
Stress is a naturally occurring physical and psychological response from the accumulation of short- or long-term demands placed on individuals. Physically, the body will react to stress-induced hormones by increasing heart rate, respiration, and muscle tension. Psychologically, stress will prompt the body to respond with heightened alertness and attention to what caused the stress. Stress that is appropriately managed through effective coping mechanisms contributes to well-being, but prolonged stress can lead to chronic conditions: high blood pressure, compromised immune systems, and brain changes (e.g., anxiety, depression, and addiction). In the context of the COVID-19 crisis, there has been a disruption …

Of Masks And Men? Gender, Sex, And Protective Measures During Covid-19, Dan Cassino, Yasemin Besen-Cassino
Department of Sociology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, men have been consistently less likely to report wearing a protective face mask. There are several possible reasons for this difference, including partisanship and gender identity. Using a national live-caller telephone survey that measures gender identity, we show that men's gender identities are strongly related to their views of mask wearing, especially when gender identity is highly salient to the individual. The effects of this interaction of sex and gender are shown to be separate from the effects of partisanship. While partisanship is a significant driver of attitudes about …
