'Golden Spike': Examining Atlanta United Fc Communications During The Launch Of The Team, Maria Tsyruleva
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Atlanta United FC is a unique example of a U.S. soccer club that had set a record in the number of season tickets sold even before the team played its first game in Major League Soccer (MLS). This research constitutes a thematic analysis of the press releases created by Atlanta United during the period between the launch of the club in April 2014 through its first official game in MLS in March 2017, examining what communication strategies Atlanta United adopted as well as what brand attributes the team communicated to its audience, and how the organization did that.

Interval Estimation Of Proportion Of Second-Level Variance In Multi-Level Modeling, Steven Svoboda
The Nebraska Educator: A Student-Led Journal
Physical, behavioral and psychological research questions often relate to hierarchical data systems. Examples of hierarchical data systems include repeated measures of students nested within classrooms, nested within schools and employees nested within supervisors, nested within organizations. Applied researchers studying hierarchical data structures should have an estimate of the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for every nested level in their analyses because ignoring even relatively small amounts of interdependence is known to inflate Type I error rate in single-level models. Traditionally, researchers rely upon the ICC as a point estimate of the amount of interdependency in their data. Recent methods utilizing an …

Business Faculty Publications
A group of professionals with expertise across sport architecture, design, athletic administration, and academia convened as a response to the COVID-19 global pandemic to consider resultant impacts of the pandemic on sport. The group’s formation, collaboration, and corresponding growth may offer insights to colleagues across sport who may wish to establish future partnerships across industry and academia. In particular, three aspects of the group’s dynamic–knowledge diversity, time unboundedness, and psychological safety–have been valuable in their collaborative process, which has catalyzed group member engagement and enhanced its outputs.

Tailgating At College Campuses: A Sobering Dilemma, Steve Chen
Tailgating At College Campuses: A Sobering Dilemma, Steve Chen
Faculty Research at Morehead State University
This case study addressed a regional public university’s challenges for offering on-campus social activities to serve its student, an issue commonly faced by a “suitcase” school. Engaging students to attend intercollegiate sports and pre-game tailgate parties is a common practice carried out by the institutions. However, the potential risk of increasing excessive drinking and drunk driving cases by students had become a serious concern of institutions’ administrators. Discussions and suggestions are given on how to foster a safe and family-oriented social environment on campus, and effectively minimize alcohol-induced problems.

Research Discipline Skeletons: The Librarian’S Bridge To Subject Knowledge, Jenn Monnin
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Purpose: In this project, a structured research discipline skeleton was created and applied with the intent to help librarians create an introductory knowledge of how to research in a discipline in which they have no formal training.
Brief Description: A working research discipline skeleton was created as part of the librarian’s MLIS practicum in 2017, and was put into practice when the librarian entered the health science librarianship profession two years later. This skeleton was created through a multidisciplinary lens, and included broad categories for gathering relevant information all in one place, with the intention to update the document as …

Antitrust Changeup: How A Single Antitrust Reform Could Be A Home Run For Minor League Baseball Players, Jeremy Ulm
Antitrust Changeup: How A Single Antitrust Reform Could Be A Home Run For Minor League Baseball Players, Jeremy Ulm
Dickinson Law Review (2017-Present)
In 1890, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act to protect competition in the marketplace. Federal antitrust law has developed to prevent businesses from exerting unfair power on their employees and customers. Specifically, the Sherman Act prevents competitors from reaching unreasonable agreements amongst themselves and from monopolizing markets. However, not all industries have these protections.
Historically, federal antitrust law has not governed the “Business of Baseball.” The Supreme Court had the opportunity to apply antitrust law to baseball in Federal Baseball Club, Incorporated v. National League of Professional Baseball Clubs; however, the Court held that the Business of Baseball was not …
