Williams did not publicly acknowledge or apologise for the crisis and instead focused on a new sense of direction after living through the experience, much of which is documented and promoted on her Instagram account. This exploratory case study focuses on Serena Williams’s use of Instagram as …

Investigating Disparities In High School Athletes’ Attitude Toward Concussion And Predictors Of Continuing Play, Jessica Wallace, Jamie Mcallister Deitrick, Tywan Martin, Ryan N. Moran

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice

Objective: Studies related to attitudes of concussion have been growing in athletic populations. While racial and socioeconomic disparities exist in knowledge and awareness of concussion, it remains unclear the effect of disparities on attitudes of concussion and reporting behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine racial and socioeconomic disparities on attitudes towards concussion and the decision to remain in play with a suspected concussion.

Design: This cross-sectional study included 577 athletes between the ages of 13-19 (16.0 ± 1.2) years from 14 high schools. Participants completed a knowledge and attitudes instrument assessing general attitudes of concussion using 7 …

Advising Physiology Students: Perceptions From The Programs, Anne R. Crecelius, Patrick L. Crosswhite Sep 2020

Advising Physiology Students: Perceptions From The Programs, Anne R. Crecelius, Patrick L. Crosswhite

Health and Sport Science Faculty Publications

Academic advising outcomes can be linked to both student success and retention. Yet relatively little is known specifically related to advising in physiology programs. Pro- fessional organizations dedicated to academic advising in general, and more specifically advising future health professional students exist, yet, whether current physiology programs utilize these resources remains unknown, as does a number of other demographic informa- tion about advising in physiology programs. Here we present data gathered from a sample of physiology educators to inform what current advising practices of physiology students are. Forty-five re- spondents from a variety of institutions and programs provided information on …

Discussing The Gender Gap In The Venue Management Industry: It’S An Interesting Idea But..., Jill Schinberg

Arts Administration Faculty Publications

Gender disparity is nothing new—not in the arts and culture sector nor the various administrative fields of arts and entertainment management. However, our willingness to bring gender representation issues and equal opportunity to light has changed over time. In 2017, the International Association of Venue Managers took the first steps toward a more inclusive industry. This paper examines the impetus for the first diversity survey of its kind in the public assembly sphere, discusses the data as they pertain to gender, assesses the association’s first conference session on the topic, contextualizes the results, and proposes directions for future research in …

Health and Sport Science Faculty Publications

Undergraduate degree programs named “Physiology” have existed for over 50 yr. The number of programs and enrolled students have been growing since ~2005 (5, 9). There are many thousands of students currently enrolled in physiology pro- grams across the United States and indeed across the world. Despite the long history and current popularity of the physiol- ogy major, there is no coordinated plan articulated for the design, administration, or assessment of degree programs in physiology at the undergraduate level.

Although several professional societies have invested in under- graduate physiology education in various ways, none has under- taken the task of …

The Impact Of Service Firm’S Environmentally Friendly Reputation In The Context Of Revenue Management, Choongbeom Choi, Miyoung Jeong Ph.D. Sep 2020

The Impact Of Service Firm’S Environmentally Friendly Reputation In The Context Of Revenue Management, Choongbeom Choi, Miyoung Jeong Ph.D.

Faculty Publications

In revenue management practice, customers’ perceived fairness is a critical issue. Prior research examined the effect of revenue management on customers’ perceptions of fairness by implementing two different conditions: fencing and framing. In this study, the authors evaluated the role of a service firm’s environmentally friendly reputation under the conditions of fencing and framing. Results indicated that an environmentally friendly reputation only moderated the effect of framing on perceived fairness. In particular, when the firm had a poor reputation, framing as a discount rather than framing as a surcharge increased customers’ fairness perceptions. When the firm had a good reputation, …
