Rivalry Appeals In Advertising: Distinctiveness Versus Inclusiveness, David Stahr

The main objective of the research is to study how convenience and shopping products impact how consumers react to rivalry appeals in advertisements. The authors examine the effectiveness of rivalry appeals in advertisements and how they are impacted by the product type considered by consumers. In two studies, a 2 (prime: distinctiveness vs. inclusiveness) x 2 (message: competition vs. collaboration) ANOVA methodology was conducted on survey data. In Study 1, participants primed with distinctiveness (inclusiveness) and considering convenience products experienced an assimilation effect where they preferred competitive (collaborative) rivalry appeals. The Savannah Hockey Classic has become a very successful annual university club hockey team tournament. The 21st edition of the tournament was held in January 2020 in Savannah, Ga. featuring the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Florida, Florida State University, and University of Georgia club hockey teams—the same teams that have comprised the tournament for many years. This study utilized Personal Investment Theory (Braskamp, 1986) and the SPEED scale (Funk, Filo, Beaton, & Pritchard, 2009) for attendance motivation assessment. Voiding The Ncaa Show-Cause Penalty: Analysis And Ramifications Of A California Court Decision And Where College Athletics And Show-Cause Penalties Go From Here, Josh Lens

The University of New Hampshire Law Review

In late 2018, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge sent shockwaves through college athletics by ruling that the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions (“COI”) unlawfully restrained now-former University of Southern California (“USC”) assistant football coach Todd McNair’s career when it imposed a “show-cause” penalty on him. Judge Frederick Shaller therefore declared NCAA show-cause penalties void under California employment law.

For decades, the COI has utilized show-cause penalties to punish individuals who break NCAA rules. Reserved for more egregious violations, universities and administrators long treated show-cause orders as scarlet letters, typically terminating or refusing to hire coaches subject to them. That …

The augmented reality (AR) market is expected to grow to $60.55 billion by 2023 and there are currently an estimated 4.2 billion AR-capable devices in the hands of consumers. Experts believe that sport is a high-value market for AR as it is uniquely positioned to utilize AR in multiple marketing contexts (Haber, 2019). (November 3, 2020) The opportunity to work as a graduate assistant at the Basler Center for Physical Activity was a deciding factor for Austin Seay when he was looking for a graduate program in sport management.

“I had worked in campus recreation while I was an undergraduate, and when I toured the ETSU facility and met the staff, it all clicked,” Seay said.  “I knew this campus was the place for me.”

Issues related to social justice and activism have always permeated sports, but recently, due to the high profile cases of several elite-level athletes (i.e., Colin Kaepernick, Megan Rapinoe), these issues have become much more prominent in the contemporary sporting climate. Even though these highly visible actions are publicized in today’s media environment, little is known about how collegiate student-athletes perceive engaging in social justice activism. Therefore, the current study surveyed 2,092 collegiate student-athletes on their attitudes toward activism engagement using a theory of planned behavior framework with particular attention paid to how gender and ethnicity/race influenced these relationships. In the 1990’s, the golf industry was under fire from environmentalists for the use of natural resources and the creation of pollution. Therefore, golf courses began to implement and establish sustainability practices to generate ecofriendly courses. The purpose of this study was to examine the sustainability practices at Pebble Beach Golf Links. The researcher designed and utilized a best practices instrument to analyze the three pillars of sustainability, environmental, economic, and social, at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Internship programs can serve as recruitment and selection strategies that facilitate data collection on the abilities of potential employees to manage their daily work duties. This study aims to examine factors that may influence a student intern’s intentions to apply to convert the internship into a permanent employee position at the same company after graduating from university. The study is grounded in the theory of planned behavior to probe whether internship satisfaction, subjective norms, and self-efficacy are predictors of the intentions of student interns to apply for jobs at companies that offer internship programs.
