Genotype And Environmental Effects On Quality Traits Of Durum Wheat Grown In North Dakota, Sara Moayedi
Genotype And Environmental Effects On Quality Traits Of Durum Wheat Grown In North Dakota, Sara Moayedi
Plant Sciences
Variation in grain, semolina, dough strength, and pasta quality traits were evaluated using the effect of genotype and weather factors (air temperature, rainfall, and relative humidity). In addition, size exclusion high performance liquid chromatography (SE-HPLC) was applied to determine the correlation between quality traits and protein molecular weight distribution (MWD) with cooked firmness and cooked weight of fresh pasta made from four durum wheat genotypes. Results indicated that the environment was a great source of variation in the majority of quality traits such as test weight, 1000-kernel weight, grain protein content, vitreous kernel content, falling number, semolina protein content, semolina …
Motor Competency's Relationship To Interpersonal Coordination In Stationary Basketball Dribbling, Daniel Bell
Motor Competency's Relationship To Interpersonal Coordination In Stationary Basketball Dribbling, Daniel Bell
Theses and Dissertations
A gold standard for student pairing strategies in a physical education setting has still yet to be discovered and is a widely debated topic in the field. Inclusion and equitable learning environments are areas of emphasis for practitioners while trying to find new ways to elicit these things to benefit students. Interpersonal coordination (IC), a social phenomenon on which this study focused, has direct applications for pairing strategies in physical education. In essence, IC is a state in which two individuals non-consciously mimic each other’s motor patterns. IC was measured between 182 student pairings performing stationary basketball dribbling. Participants included …
Parental Practices And Home Environmental Influences On Children’S Physical Activity In A Controlled Lab Setting: An Observational Study, Tia Klein
Theses and Dissertations
There has been a rise of obesity in children, adolescents, and adults over the past decades. This rise in obesity has led to many health concerns such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, some cancers and depression. Physical activity [PA] has been shown to decrease these risks and aid in positive growth and development for children and adolescents. The primary aim of this study was to examine the relationship between parental and child PA in a controlled lab experiment. The secondary aim was to examine parental practices (physical and social home environment) and their influences on children’s PA in a controlled …
Effects Of Exercise Training On Resting Testosterone Concentrations In Sedentary Men: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Nolan James Potter
Effects Of Exercise Training On Resting Testosterone Concentrations In Sedentary Men: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Nolan James Potter
Theses and Dissertations
Background: The anabolic hormone testosterone plays a pivotal role in the healthy aging of men and tends to decline with age.
Objective: The aims of this systematic review and meta-analysis were twofold: 1) to evaluate the effect of exercise training on resting total testosterone concentration in men; and 2) to determine if the effects of exercise training differed by training type, age or weight status.
Methods: Electronic databases (MEDLINE, Scopus, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus) were systematically searched (up to and including 19 September 2019) for peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) meeting the following criteria: apparently healthy, previously sedentary men (aged ≥18 …

Both Maternal And Embryonic Exposure To Mild Hypoxia Influence Embryonic Development Of The Intertidal Gastropod Littorina Littorea (Linnaeus, 1758)., James C.S. Mccoy, John I. Spicer, Oliver Tills, Simon D. Rundle
School of Biological and Marine Sciences
There is growing evidence that maternal exposure to environmental stressors can alter offspring phenotype and increase fitness. Here, we investigate the relative and combined effects of maternal and developmental exposure to mild hypoxia (65% and 74% air saturation respectively) on the growth and development of embryos of the marine gastropod Littorina littorea. Differences in embryo morphological traits were driven by the developmental environment, whereas the maternal environment and interactive effects of maternal and developmental environment were the main driver of differences in the timing of developmental events. While developmental exposure to mild hypoxia significantly increased the area of an important …

Objectives: To investigate associations between androgens (testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate [DHEAS] and androstenedione), adiposity, fat distribution and insulin resistance (IR) during childhood and adolescence. Methods: Three hundred and seven children (170 [55.4%] boys; 137 [44.6%] girls)recruited at age 5 and studied annually until age 16: androgens (liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry), anthropometry, body composition (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) and IR (homeostasis model assessment). Results: Early adiposity was associated with earlier detection of androstenedione in both sexes, and DHEAS in boys. At puberty, higher androgen levels were associated with favourable metabolic changes in boys, but adverse metabolic effects in girls. In boys, higher free …

There are large between- and within-country variations in COVID-19 death rates. Some very low death rate settings such as Eastern Asia, Central Europe, the Balkans and Africa have a common feature of eating large quantities of fermented foods whose intake is associated with the activation of the Nrf2 (Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2) anti-oxidant transcription factor. There are many Nrf2-interacting nutrients (berberine, curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate, genistein, quercetin, resveratrol, sulforaphane) that all act similarly to reduce insulin resistance, endothelial damage, lung injury and cytokine storm. They also act on the same mechanisms (mTOR: Mammalian target of rapamycin, PPARγ:Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor, NFκB: …
