Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering For Enantiomeric Discrimination, Thanyada Sukmanee Jan 2020

Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering For Enantiomeric Discrimination, Thanyada Sukmanee

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates with intended surface modification were developed for enantiomeric analysis by taking the consideration of asymmetric electric field and molecular interaction between a probe molecule and enantiomeric analyte. In the first study, discrimination between enantiomers is achieved by performing tip-enhanced Raman scattering using a silver tip which is chemically modified by an achiral para-mercaptopyridine (pMPY) probe molecule. The different relative intensities of the pMPY spectra were obtained when three pairs of enantiomers containing hydroxy and/or amino groups were used as analytes. Enantiomeric discrimination can be attained by the asymmetric electric field of the tip apex co-existed …

Poisson Approximation For Locally Dependent Collateralized Debt Obligation, Nat Yonghint Jan 2020

Poisson Approximation For Locally Dependent Collateralized Debt Obligation, Nat Yonghint

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

A collateralized debt obligation (CDO) is a type of structured asset-backed security. The assets are pooled together and divided into tranches to be sold to investors. Each tranche has a substantially different credit quality and risk level. Jaio and Kaouri (2009), Neammanee and Yonghint (2020) used Poisson approximation to approximate a percentage loss for each tranche in CDO where all reference assets are independent. However, in the real world, each asset may not have the independent structure. In this thesis, we consider reference assets without assuming independence. If a default of reference asset may affect to some asset then we …

Atmospheric And Ionospheric Responses To Acoustic And Gravity Waves Driven By Earthquakes And Tsunamis, Pavel A. Inchin

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Natural hazards (NHs) are causes for significant concern due to their potentially catastrophic impacts on society. The study of their effects on the upper atmosphere can provide significant insight into the coupled nature of geophysical processes, and drives important applications for radio communication and navigation, leading potentially to the development of NH early-warning systems. Although general concepts underlying their coupling mechanisms are well understood, recent computational capabilities, supported by high temporal and spatial density of observations, have reached the level where such processes can be modeled with unprecedented realism for detailed case studies. The studies provided in this thesis are …

Thus, this study aims to determine pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of FOS in E. coli from dog with UTI. A total of 6 healthy male beagle dogs were administered with FOS in 3 different dosages …

Key Expert Stakeholder Perceptions Of The Law Of Genomics: Identified Problems And Potential Solutions, Lauren E. Clatch Jan 2020

Key Expert Stakeholder Perceptions Of The Law Of Genomics: Identified Problems And Potential Solutions, Lauren E. Clatch

Law Faculty Publications

The law on human genomics in the United States is currently in transition and under debate. The rapid evolution of the science, burgeoning clinical research, and growing clinical application pose serious challenges for federal and state law. Newer genomic assays, such as gene panels, whole exome and whole genome sequencing that can assess many or all of a patient’s genetic variants are different from former genetic assays that consist of assessing for variants in specific genes that indicate risk for medical conditions and for single-gene Mendelian disorders. Overall, single-gene genetic testing has primarily been used for risk prediction, disease diagnosis, …

The Economic Efficiency Case Against Business Tax Privacy, Daniel Schaffa Jan 2020

The Economic Efficiency Case Against Business Tax Privacy, Daniel Schaffa

Law Faculty Publications

By statute, business tax returns are not publicly available. But with public access, investors would acquire useful information that would help them make better investing decisions; business tax compliance and planning would become more uniform, preventing tax-savvy firms from gaining an advantage over other relatively more productive firms; and businesses could learn from one another, which would spare firms the cost of redundantly developing the same tax strategies. In the long run, these efficiency gains could result in lower prices, higher wages, more innovation, more leisure, and better investment returns. In the debate over business tax privacy, these sorts of …

Predicting Football Match Result Using Fusion-Based Classification Model, Chananyu Pipatchatchawal Jan 2020

Predicting Football Match Result Using Fusion-Based Classification Model, Chananyu Pipatchatchawal

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Over the last decades, various football experts and researchers around the world seek to forecast football match result. Although there are multiple types of prediction models constructed for this purpose, most of them still depends on integrating in-game statistical numbers, such as number of successful passes in one game. This kind of information has huge positive impact on predicting outcome but is not desired as it requires the match to finish first. Thus, this thesis aims to propose more accurate models, which are not relied on in-game numbers. Two forms of fusion-based classification models are proposed in this study, including …

Definable Modules Over Definable Rings Without Zero Divisors In O-Minimal Structures, Jaruwat Rodbanjong

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In an o-minimal structure, every definable group admits a definable group manifold. Moreover, one can also show an analogue of this statement for definable rings. In this work, we prove that every definable module over definable ring without zero divisors admits a definable module manifold. In addition, we also give the classification of definable modules over definable rings without zero divisors in o-minimal structures

Fabrication And Characterization Of Graphene-Based Heterostructure Using Molybdenum As Alternative Electrodes, Illias Klanurak

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Interlayer coupling in graphene heterostructures can be used to modify their charge transport properties for the use in nanoelectronics applications. To achieve high-performance devices, graphene is typically encapsulated by two thin sheets of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and contacted using Cr/Au as electrodes. In this research, Mo was selected as alternative stand-alone electrodes to simplify the fabrication process. We have developed a recipe for the fabrication of field-effect transistor (FET) using twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG) as a transport channel. Mo was employed to make one-dimensional (1D) contacts to the edges of graphene by sputtering. Electronic transport measurement was then …

Holographic Solutions From N=6, D=4 Gauged Supergravity, Jakkapat Seeyangnok Jan 2020

Holographic Solutions From N=6, D=4 Gauged Supergravity, Jakkapat Seeyangnok

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In this thesis, we study holographic solutions of four-dimensional N = 6 gauged supergravity with SO(6) gauge group. The theory admits a unique N = 6 supersymmetric AdS4 vacuum dual to a three-dimensional N = 6 SCFT and gives us a number of supersymmetric domain walls interpolating between this AdS4 vacuum and singular geometries in IR with SO(2) × SO(4), U(3), SO(2) × SO(2) × SO(2), and SO(3) symmetries. These solutions describe RG flows from N = 6 SCFT in UV to non-conformal field theories driven by mass deformations. In particular, the solution with SO(2)×SO(4) symmetry coincides with the known …

Cryptosystem For Textual Message By Using Malleable Neural Network With Secret Dimensions, Hangyi Wang

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Most of the current cryptography is based on modulo computing with predefined public and private keys. The robustness of this approach is controlled by the size of the prime divider. The encryption and decryption processes of this modulo computing are rather fast and rather robust to any attack. However, it is still possible to crack the encrypted message by using meta-heuristic algorithm, very high performance parallel machines, and also quantum computing concept. This thesis takes another approach in order to enhance the robustness of encrypted messages by deploying the structure of a feedforward neural network with augmented secret dimensions concurred …

In this work, a series of quinoline derivatives were synthesized and studied with an aim for Cd2+ selective turn-on fluorescent sensors. The structures of the compounds were designed to systematically evaluate the effects of amino protons, number of N-coordinating atoms, quinoline/picoline moieties and substituents on the sensing properties. The association constants of all synthesized ligands were studied by UV-vis absorption titration in aqueous solution. The results revealed that the ligands having 6- and 4- donor …

Strict Stability Of Fixed Points And Iteration Schemes, Kittisak Tontan Jan 2020

Strict Stability Of Fixed Points And Iteration Schemes, Kittisak Tontan

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In this thesis, we introduce the concept of a strictly stable fixed point of a selfmap and investigate the relationship among various types of fixed point stability. We prove that all fixed point of a quasi-nonexpansive map is strictly stable and extend the concept of a strictly stable fixed point of a selfmap to an iteration scheme. We introduce the concept of convexly strictly stable fixed points of selfmaps and apply it to obtain virtual stability of some well-known iteration schemes in a convex subset of a Banach space.

Greybody Factors For Perfect Fluid Black Hole, Kunlapat Sansuk Jan 2020

Greybody Factors For Perfect Fluid Black Hole, Kunlapat Sansuk

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The Einstein equation is a field equation which describes gravity in terms of the curvature of spacetime. It states how matter curves spacetime. The solutions of the Einstein field equation are the metrics of spacetime from which the curvature of spacetime can be found. The field equations are non-linear, which are complicated to solve. Therefore, some assumptions are needed to reduce the complexity of the Einstein equation. One of these assumptions is a perfect fluid sphere. Perfect fluid sphere satisfies the following: no viscosity, no heat conduction, and isotropy. Perfect fluid black holes are black hole solutions of the Einstein …
