Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
The concept of postmemory, introduced by Hirsch (2012), focuses on the processes through which memories—particularly traumatic memories— of a historical tragedy, “Holocaus”, which is transmitted across generations. Drawing on the elements supporting inter-individual memory transmission, this paper examines the dynamics of human memory within Novel Prize-winning French-Mauritian author J. M. G. Le Clézio's novella entitled “Tempête”. Using a qualitative approach, this study aims to examine the individual forms of memory transmission that are rooted in conditions of isolation, and developed through one trauma site as the memory connector. The presence of semiotics within the story also builds the narration of …

The face of Indonesian art contains multicultural, intercultural, and diverse values in the dialectics of regional arts and global culture. The rise of local culture is often caused by global cultural friction. The attraction and tension between global culture and local culture results in the 'glocalization' of culture. This article aims to explore the values of locality and global culture as a creative foundation for art in the Balinese diaspora art community, Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (SDI) which is culturally and philosophically insightful. The Balinese diaspora gradually has a new cultural identity as a result of the acculturation of Balinese culture …

Language Expressions In Constructing Physical Masculinity In Indonesian Teen Lit, Azizatuz Zahro, Anang Santoso, Dawud Dawud
Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
Teen lit serves a central position in the conception of masculinity in teenagers due to its closeness to them as readers. For teenagers, physical masculinity is relatively highlighted compared to masculinity in other dimensions. Physical masculinity is expressed through classic names, which is related to strength, and is signified by ‘provincial’ names. Physical masculinity is also conveyed through the expressions of the eyes and figures. Besides, a specific cultural icon typically related to handsomeness is also used to construct physical masculinity in teen lit.

Ghost stories as myth have been around for hundreds of years, both in oral or written forms. Literature has provided a space for urban legend. The most popular and legendary ghosts are usually female ghosts. These female ghosts appear not only to represent ghosts but they also carry certain feminine values from the authors. This study aims to investigate female ghosts on Sihir Perempuan, a collection of short stories written by Intan Paramaditha using feminist construction approach. Cixous’ (2008) theory of feminist writing and an approach to shift to the center are used as the study’s conceptual framework. The findings …

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)
The Socialist Education Movement, also known as the Four Cleanups Campaign, was a nation-wide political movement that took place between 1963 and 1966 in China. The initial aim of the movement was to deal with the grassroots cadres’ corruption problems. However, the authority later conducted a class reconsideration work, and all the peasants became the targets of the movement. This project uses meeting records, self-inspection reports, personal statements, and a variety of other grassroots materials from the Jinjiapu Village in northern China to study peasants’ experience and discourses during the campaign. In contrast to the previous studies that focus on …

A Notion Of Prominence For Games With Natural-Language Labels, Alessandro Sontuoso, Sudeep Bhatia
A Notion Of Prominence For Games With Natural-Language Labels, Alessandro Sontuoso, Sudeep Bhatia
ESI Working Papers
We study games with natural-language labels (i.e., strategic problems where options are denoted by words), for which we propose and test a measurable characterization of prominence. We assume that – ceteris paribus – players find particularly prominent those strategies that are denoted by words more frequently used in their everyday language. To operationalize this assumption, we suggest that the prominence of a strategy-label is correlated with its frequency of occurrence in large text corpora, such as the Google Books corpus (“n-gram” frequency). In testing for the strategic use of word frequency, we consider experimental games with different incentive structures (such …

A Behavioral Approach To Bilateral Cooperation On Criminal Laws: A Case Study On Indonesia’S Extradition And Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties, Harison Citrawan, Muhammad Fedian
Indonesia Law Review
The effectiveness of bilateral agreements in the context of criminal law enforcement remains highly contested. In the Indonesian context, such bilateral cooperation classifies two modalities of indirect law enforcement systems, namely, extradition and mutual legal assistance (MLA) in criminal matters. This article attempts to explain these modalities through a behavioral and rational approach by taking Indonesia’s MLA treaty with Switzerland and its extradition treaty with the Russian Federation as a case study. From this approach, we argue that the state’s decision to cooperate implies the adoption of control and consensus models. However, these two models were induced by political preferences …

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya
The slogans propagated by Chinese leader Hu Jintao—namely “rise in peace”, “a harmonious socialist society”, and “a harmonious world”—reflects the country’s age-old Confucian values. Considering the fact that the PRC only recognizes communism as the state ideology and that Confucianism was subjected to harsh criticism during the Cultural Revolution era (1966–1976), the presence of Confucian values in PRC’s political propaganda becomes an interesting research topic. Both Confucianism and communism put the state as the center of power and sovereignty. This research used the historicalchronological approach by examining the attitude of the PRC government towards Confucianism from 1980 to 2012. Results …
