The Issues Of Critical Terms In Ibn Salam Al-Jumhi’S Book, Hisham Qasem Issa
The Issues Of Critical Terms In Ibn Salam Al-Jumhi’S Book, Hisham Qasem Issa
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
This research focuses on the terminological issue in Ibn Salam’s book for two reasons: firstly, the significance and effectiveness of the term; secondly, the clarity of the critical vision of the critic. The term is the crossroads of human cultures, and the center of the distant linguistic worlds. It is the language of globalization with great distinction. It represents a serious critical problem. It is one of the dilemmas of contemporary Arab critical discourse. The term was not in the book of Ibn Salam, which makes it easy to read and stand at its own significance. The terms are divided …
F-Measure Optimisation And Label Regularisation For Energy-Based Neural Dialogue State Tracking Models, Anh Duong Trinh, Robert J. Ross, John D. Kelleher
F-Measure Optimisation And Label Regularisation For Energy-Based Neural Dialogue State Tracking Models, Anh Duong Trinh, Robert J. Ross, John D. Kelleher
Conference papers
In recent years many multi-label classification methods have exploited label dependencies to improve performance of classification tasks in various domains, hence casting the tasks to structured prediction problems. We argue that multi-label predictions do not always satisfy domain constraint restrictions. For example when the dialogue state tracking task in task-oriented dialogue domains is solved with multi-label classification approaches, slot-value constraint rules should be enforced following real conversation scenarios.
To address these issues we propose an energy-based neural model to solve the dialogue state tracking task as a structured prediction problem. Furthermore we propose two improvements over previous methods with respect …

The Differences In I‘Rab In The Quranic Verses And Their Effects On Meaning Based On The Views Of Al-Shanqitiy, Syed Shahridzan Syed Mohamed
Student Works (2020-2029)
The difference in grammatical cases(I’rab) in the holy verses of the Qur'an according to Al-Shanqiti and its effect on the determination of the meaning of the verse is a problem that issues some research questions such as: what is the method used by Al-Shanqiti in the determination of I'rab in verse the Holy Quran, his stand on the differences of I'rab and the effect of the differences towards the determination of the meaning of the interpretation of the Al-Quran Al-Karim. The importance of this study is to explain the meaning supported by the holy verses of the Quran and the …
Semi-Vowels In English And Their Counterparts In Arabic, A Contrastive Study, Mubdir Shihab Ahmed
Semi-Vowels In English And Their Counterparts In Arabic, A Contrastive Study, Mubdir Shihab Ahmed
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The present study attempts to shed light on a phonetic phenomenon in both English and Arabic related to what is called semi-vowels. The English semi-vowel /j/ and /w/ and the Arabic (و) and (ي) are either considered consonants or vowels depending on certain bases. Hence, this study tries to investigate these bases. The study aims at giving a description of the English and Arabic semi-vowels and showing whether both languages are similar or different with reference to their production and function. The study hypothesises that considering the English Semi-vowels as either consonants or vowels is determined phonetically or phonologically, whereas …

Examples: A Pragmatic Approach, Ramia Fu’Ad Abdulazeez Mirza
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
This study deals with a seemingly obvious topic to everyone – examples. Yet, on a closer perusal, the topic turns out to be interestingly perplexed. This can be justified by the amalgam of cognition and communication out of which such concept is delivered. This mixture gives a hand in texturizing examples. This work aims at pragmatically investigating the concept of ‘example’ as far as its definition, structure, types and functions are concerned. Furthermore, it aims at developing an eclectic model that will be utilized to pragmatically analyze the data of the work represented by four interviews with Donald Trump in …

Discourse Analysis Of Terrorism In Iraqi Novels: A Look At Frankenstein In Baghdad, Nasser Qasemi, Kamal Baghjari, Yadollah Malayeri, Vahid Samadi
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The present Paper aims to analyse terrorism discourse in the modern Iraqi novel titled Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi by using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis theory. The research is divided into two chapters of five sections.
The first chapter provides a brief description on "the concept of terrorism", "the concept of discourse" and "terrorism in Iraqi novels". The second chapter deals with an analysis of the practical words in Saadawi’s novel, exploring the role of terrorism discourse in selecting those words. This chapter also addresses the social dimension of terrorism discourse, suggesting that social phenomena results from discourses, …

The Kurdish And The Arabic Language, Karwan Omar Qadir Ahmed, Nian Othman Sharif Amin
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The theory of meaning and contexts of the output of meaning have recently developed extremely. If the lexical meaning of individual words seems to be often easily attainable, the encyclopedic meaning produced by lexical meanings in different contexts is very important in establishing certain purposes of the text in the recipient's pate and mind. Different theories are used in the analysis of meaning, and one of these theories is the Domain theory. It is a cognitive theory of knowledge, and Ronald Langacker is the first to talk about this theory in the cognitive grammar, which is a complement and extension …

Translating Reduplication In Some Selected Verses Of The Glorious Qur’An Into English, Ibtihal M. Al Tameem
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
Reduplication can be defined as a morphological process where the root or stem of a word (or part of it) is repeated exactly or with a slight change. It can be found in many world languages with various types and uses. This paper investigates reduplication in terms of phonology, morphology, and semantics in some selected verses of the Glorious Qur’an concerning its kinds and its translation into English. The main problem of the present research is concerned with the way of translating reduplication concerning the Glorious Quran. Different interpretations of reduplication are adopted to show the efficiency and the rhetorical …

Shades Of Meaning In Kumail's Du’Aa, Qassem Sahib Karim Al' Assadi
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
This study aims to identify the shades of meanings of some words and the structures of the selected text constructions, so that the researcher can dive into the depths of the text, and extract the characteristics, and linguistic potential, and to uncover what damages the word and constructions , and watch the pictures painted by those shades
The research is based on selections in this study because the vocabulary does not have all shades, but there are words in particular, and compositions selected, as the research consists of two sections: the first section sheds lights on the theoretical background where …

Al-Awaboun In The Holly Quran (Objective Scientific Study), Fadhil Abbas Lateef
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The best way a man takes in his life is the way of scientists and the most honest science for a man to be busy with is the holly Quran because the honest of Quran is from the honest of its descender; the best way is for Allah, and there is no good in this world and the hereafter except when he is the one who is the one who is talking to him, by knowing the interpretation of his meanings and looking for what Allah Almighty wanted with his glorious words. Andrew Dickson White And America’S Unfinished (French) Revolution, Gregory S. Brown
Andrew Dickson White And America’S Unfinished (French) Revolution, Gregory S. Brown
History Faculty Research
Andrew Dickson White is not considered a canonical author in the French Revolution's historiography, but rather is known as the founding president of both Cornell University and the American Historical Association (AHA). His best-known published historical writings, when referenced at all, are often derided. Yet in his intellectually formative years, as an earnest abolitionist and amibtious Republican, eager to enter the arena of American political life and anticipating what he would later call "the great revolution" of the Civil War, White made the topic his central academic pursuit - and effectively invented a distinctly American tradition of historiography.

The Representation Of Masculinity In A Malaysian Televised Show, Uma Rani A Rethina Velu
Student Works (2020-2029)
This study examines the representation of masculinity in a Malaysian televised show, Oh My English! using a multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis from four perspectives. Firstly, this study analyses the verbal processes significant in the reflection of the Other among five main male social actors and with other character roles. Secondly, the non-verbal processes are simultaneously analysed via visual interpretation. Thirdly, these two processes overlap with the analysis of social actions in the performance of masculinity. Finally, how ideological assumptions reflect on masculinity are analysed via the two processes and social actions among the five main social actors along with the …

Faculty Research 2020
The premise of Open Science is that research and medical management will progress faster if data and knowledge are openly shared. The value of Open Science is nowhere more important and appreciated than in the rare disease (RD) community. Research into RDs has been limited by insufficient patient data and resources, a paucity of trained disease experts, and lack of therapeutics, leading to long delays in diagnosis and treatment. These issues can be ameliorated by following the principles and practices of sharing that are intrinsic to Open Science. Here, we describe how the RD community has adopted the core pillars …

Using Digital Technology To Address Confirmability And Scalability In Thematic Analysis Of Participant-Provided Data, Chung Joo Chung, J. Patrick Biddix, Han Woo Park
The Qualitative Report
This article presents a technique for analyzing large-scale qualitative data to address considerations for scalability and confirmability in thematic analysis of participant-provided data. A network approach provides a consistent means of coding that scales with the size of the dataset and is verifiable using standardized methods. This form of data analysis can be used with smaller data sources including interview transcripts as well as large data sources such as open-ended survey responses. A constructivist (inductive) approach is maintained and needed, however, to aid in interpretation of latent constructs. In this article, we provide both a conceptual overview of the co-word …

Integrating Articles Into Teaching English To Young Learners Ii Course In Elt Department, Ayşegül Takkaç Tulgar
The Qualitative Report
While relevant literature presents us different studies examining teaching English to young learners from an application and practice perspective, its theoretical side, i.e., how to instruct pre-service teachers in foreign language departments to teach the language to young learner profiles is still an area needing investigation. Conducted in English Language Teaching department at a state university in Turkey, this case study was purposed to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating articles into TEYL II course. The participants were 36 students taking TEYL II course in the third grade. The data of this case study were collected through open-ended questions and classroom …
“Señora, Diak!”: Co-Constructed Identity Of A Foreigner In Timor-Leste, Marie Quinn
“Señora, Diak!”: Co-Constructed Identity Of A Foreigner In Timor-Leste, Marie Quinn
The Qualitative Report
This article takes place in not one taxi, but all the taxis I have caught in Timor-Leste, encapsulating first encounter conversations I have had across the country, where my “otherness” as a Señora, an Australian who towers over the local population is contrasted to my knowledge of the country. I take a reflexive approach to explore how my identity as a work colleague and researcher has been constructed by many factors. Such encounters as I typify here challenge me to consider who I am and what is expected of me as a sensitive and ethical adviser and researcher.
