Receptive Communication: A Holistic Orientation For Servant-Leaders, Stephen Michael Tumolo
Receptive Communication: A Holistic Orientation For Servant-Leaders, Stephen Michael Tumolo
International Journal of Servant-Leadership
Robert Greenleaf’s vision of servant-leadership continues to grow, attracting leaders and organizations who resonate with its values (Ferch, Spears, McFarland, & Carey, 2015). Servantleadership scholarship furthers this vision and supports growth in a variety of ways, including: defining and clarifying the essence of servant-leadership, inspiring those who aspire to serve and lead, operationalizing theory through application to organizational settings, creating measures for servant-leadership, and reviewing and synthesizing literature (van Dierendonck, 2010).

I grew up as white, catholic, American, heterosexual male in a top 5% income household in a safe neighborhood, with some lifealtering, yet not terminal medical issues. Because of this privilege, I was able to focus on my unlimited education to the near exclusion of all else for the first two decades of my life, allowing me to fall in love with learning, with challenging intellectual discussions, with magis, and with cura personalis. Yet as my undergraduate career draws to a close, I find myself questioning how those circumstances affected what I learned, questioning if and how the self-awareness I …

Evaluation Of The Care And Communication Bundle To Improve Palliative Care In Intensive Care Units, Angela Susan Bohon
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Review of local data and concerns from nursing staff revealed the need to improve palliative care in a local, community hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This effort was mobilized by implementing the Care and Communication Bundle within evidence-based time frames, into this local, community ICU, using Lewin’s Change theory as a guide for implementation. The Care and Communication Bundle is a grouping of nine palliative, quality measures found to improve palliative care in the ICU. A pre/post-educational intervention evaluated if the implementation of the Care and Communication Bundle in the ICU improved palliative care by reviewing the documentation of the …

Objectives: The goal of this project was to increase knowledge concerning the current prevalence, needs and barriers to mental health service use in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). It’s purpose was to gather data that would help to inform future policy decisions aimed at optimizing the use and availability of these services in the KSA. There were three specific aims: 1) Examine the barriers to initiation and continuation of mental health treatment in people with a disorder diagnosed during the previous 12-months. 2) Explore the prevalence and predictors of mental health treatment dropout. 3) Examine the prevalence and patterns …
Integrated Techno-Economic And Life Cycle Analyses Of Biomass Utilization For Value-Added Bioproducts In The Northeastern United States, Yuxi Wang
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A multi-stage spatial analysis was first conducted to select locations for lignocellulosic biomass-based bioproduct facility, using Geographical Information System (GIS) spatial analysis, multi-criteria analysis ranking algorithm, and social-economic assessment. A case study was developed to determine locations for lignocellulosic biorefineries using feedstocks including forest residue biomass and three energy crops for 13 states in the northeastern United States. In the entire study area, 11.1% of the counties are high-suitable, 48.8% are medium-suitable for biorefinery siting locations. A non-parametric analysis of cross-group surveys showed that preferences on biorefinery siting are homogeneous for experts in academia and industry groups, but people in …

Integrating The Natural Healing Process For Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment In Veterans Through A Healing Garden., Taiwo A. Ajibade
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
In 2002, several ex-service personnel brought a court case against the Ministry of Defense for the inability to identify PTSD issues at an early stage and to provide support and effective treatment (Langston et al. 2007). Also in recent times, reports have suggested that US marine and army infantry units returning from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan have a higher level of expected proportions of mental disorders and that about 10% of personnel are returning home are with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (Smith et al., 2008). This discovery made it pertinent to look for natural ways to assist veterans …
Selective Precipitation And Recovery Of Rare Earth Elements From Acid Mine Drainage, Robyn Lauren Christoferson
Selective Precipitation And Recovery Of Rare Earth Elements From Acid Mine Drainage, Robyn Lauren Christoferson
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The ability to secure rare earth elements (REEs) in the United States is of concern due to the rapid growth in demand and the monopolistic supply chain. The demand for REEs has skyrocketed in recent years due to the development of many green technologies. The United States and many other countries are currently reliant on China for REEs, who currently control greater than 90% of the global supply. Due to the severe impact of previous Chinese export quotas, it is important to lessen the reliance on importation and explore methods of recycling REEs from secondary sources. A secondary REE source …

Facebook: Where Privacy Concerns And Social Needs Collide, Sonya Scherini
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Facebook is an integral part of today’s social landscape, but Facebook use involves compromising one’s privacy in relation to both other users and to the Facebook corporation and its affiliated businesses. This analysis explores respondents’ reasons for using Facebook together with their Facebook-related privacy concerns, and how these factors influence self-disclosures and privacy management strategies on the site. Also explored are respondents’ perceptions both of what the Facebook corporation ‘knows’ about them and with whom it shares their data. The research is based on the concepts of user-user and user-corporate privacy concerns versus the social needs of self-portrayal and belonging. …

School of Biological and Marine Sciences
The goal of this paper is to propose a screening method for assessing the environmental risk to aquatic systems in harbours worldwide. A semi-quantitative method is based on environmental pressures, environmental conditions and societal response. The method is flexible enough to be applied to 15 harbours globally distributed through a multinational test using standardised and homogenised open data that can be obtained for any port worldwide. The method emerges as a useful approach towards the foundation of a global environmental risk atlas of harbours that should guide the harbour sector to develop a more globally informed strategy of sustainable development.

Making Time For Food When ‘Doing Time’; How Enhanced Status Prisoners Counter The Indignity Of Prison Foodways, Julie M. Parsons
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
In contemporary neo-liberal societies, forms of responsible individualism and approaches to everyday foodways that reify healthy home-cooked food prepared from scratch, eaten together around a table are imbued with high cultural capital. What are the implications of this for criminalised individuals incarcerated in a prison system in England and Wales, that works with extremely low budgets, makes heavy use of pre-packaged convenience food and serves food to prisoners in their cells? Indeed, findings from Her Majesty's Inspectorate for Prison Report on food (2016:13), claims that ‘the quantity and quality of the food provided [in prison] is insufficient, and the conditions …

School of Biomedical Sciences
Background The cell-surface attachment protein (Env) of the HERV-K(HML-2) lineage of endogenous retroviruses is a potentially attractive tumour-associated antigen for anti-cancer immunotherapy. The human genome contains around 100 integrated copies (called proviruses or loci) of the HERV-K(HML-2) virus and we argue that it is important for therapy development to know which and how many of these contribute to protein expression, and how this varies across tissues. We measured relative provirus expression in HERV-K(HML-2), using enriched RNA-Seq analysis with both short- and long-read sequencing, in three Mantle Cell Lymphoma cell lines (JVM2, Granta519 and REC1). We also confirmed expression of the …

Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) affects over 250 million people worldwide. In Papua New Guinea, the prevalence of CHB has been estimated to be over 8%, and it is a leading cause of death. To address this problem, an alliance was formed between the government of Oro Province, a large private employer and an Australian nongovernmental organization, which established a CHB test and treatment programme. Between 2014 and 2019, rapid hepatitis B surface antigen testing was performed on 4068 individuals in Oro Province. The crude prevalence rate was 12.98% and was significantly higher in males (15.26%) than females (10.94%) (P < 0.001). The rate was 4.72% among children aged 10 years and under, 12.81% among women of childbearing age (19–35 years) and 18.48% among health-care workers. These results indicate that the rates of vaccination at birth and later among women of childbearing age and health-care workers must be improved to prevent transmission of CHB.

Central venous catheter have become ubiquitous with greater than 15 million catheter days/year in the intensive care setting alone. However, the procedure carries with it several immediate and other delayed complications that can result in significant morbidity, mortality, and increased healthcare cost. We report a rare case of significantly delayed complications associated with intravascular loss of guide wire during central venous catheter placement and its impact on patient's long term management. The case highlights not only the importance of proper technique and safety precaution in performing an increasingly common procedure, but also the need for timely identification and rectification of …
