Occupational Commitment, Megan Paul, Anita Barbee
Occupational Commitment, Megan Paul, Anita Barbee
Umbrella Summaries
What is occupational commitment?
Occupational commitment refers to the extent to which employees are committed to their line of work (Meyer, Allen, & Smith, 1993). Over the past 40 years, various researchers also labeled the construct as career commitment or as professional commitment, but the term occupation is intended to convey that the concept (a) does not apply to a more general concept of a career, which may involve different occupations over time and (b) applies to both professional and non-professional occupations (Meyer et al., 1993). Occupational commitment is one of many forms of work-related commitment. Some of the other, …

The Involvement Of Neuroimmune Cells In Adipose Innervation., Magdalena Blaszkiewicz, Elizabeth Wood, Sigi Koizar, Jake Willows, Ryan Anderson, Yu-Hua Tseng, James W Godwin, Kristy L Townsend
Faculty Research 2020
BACKGROUND: Innervation of adipose tissue is essential for the proper function of this critical metabolic organ. Numerous surgical and chemical denervation studies have demonstrated how maintenance of brain-adipose communication through both sympathetic efferent and sensory afferent nerves helps regulate adipocyte size, cell number, lipolysis, and 'browning' of white adipose tissue. Neurotrophic factors are growth factors that promote neuron survival, regeneration, and plasticity, including neurite outgrowth and synapse formation. Peripheral immune cells have been shown to be a source of neurotrophic factors in humans and mice. Although a number of immune cells reside in the adipose stromal vascular fraction (SVF), it …

Michigan COVID-19 Testing Turnaround Data
The COVID Testing Turnaround Time page was obtained from Michigan's COVID-19 data page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/0,9753,7-406-98163_98173-545615--,00.html.
This report was created by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, providing data for the past 14 days on the average time it takes for a diagnostic COVID-19 laboratory test to be reported to the state health department. Testing turnaround time data will be updated weekly on Friday mornings.
MDHHS receives results from commercial labs, hospitals, and public health labs. However, public health laboratories perform limited diagnostic testing and disease surveillance for infectious diseases. Total turnaround time is calculated from the difference of …

Masters Theses/Capstone Projects
The American Lung Association is a Nationwide non-profit organization. During times of COVID, many businesses and organizations have been struggling, especially nonprofits. Nonprofit organizations rely heavily on sponsors, donors and events to bring in the money they need to stay running. A major event for ALA is the Fight For Air Climb. The FFAC had to make changes due to Covid precautions and protocols. While in the midst of a pandemic, the nation is also in the middle of a vaping epidemic. ALA is dedicated in putting a stop to the vaping epidemic.

Biological Toxin Use And Disposal Policy
Biological Toxin Use And Disposal Policy
Environmental Health & Safety Policies
Biological toxins are poisonous substances produced by certain microorganisms, animals, and plants. Examples of toxins of biological origin include Diphtheria Toxin, Tetrodotoxin, Pertussis Toxin, Botulinum Toxin, Snake Venom Toxins, Conotoxin and Ricin. Although toxins are derived from biological materials, they do not replicate and are therefore not considered infectious.
However, they may be extremely toxic in very small quantities and must be managed like hazardous chemicals in the workplace. Controls must be in place to ensure staff is protected from exposure. The routes of exposure include inhalation, eye, nose and mucous membrane contact, percutaneous, and skin absorption depending on the …

Insulin Autoimmune Syndrome: A Rare Cause Of Spontaneous Hypoglycaemia In Non-Diabetic Individuals, Shruthi Ravindra, Sahana Shetty
Open Access archive
Insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS) is a rare cause of hypoglycaemia, characterised by recurrent hypoglycaemic episodes secondary to insulin autoantibodies in individuals who are not exposed to exogenous insulin. We are reporting a case of IAS in a 64-year-old gentleman, who presented with predominant postprandial hypoglycaemic episodes. On biochemical evaluation, he was found to have hyperinsulinemic hypoglycaemia. Localisation studies with MRI abdomen and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) were negative for pancreatic tumour. Tests sent for insulin antibody levels were elevated. The patient was treated with frequent meals, acarbose and glucocorticoids. Patient condition improved and did not experience hypoglycaemia on follow-up.

The Physiological Interaction Of Sleep Deprivation And Zoledronate On Distal Femur Trabecular Thickness Of Ovariectomized Rats, Erin Nolte, Frank Frisch, Oliver Lopez
Health Sciences and Kinesiology Faculty Articles
Osteoporosis, a disease resulting in an increased risk of fracture due to compromised bone, affects 1 in 3 postmenopausal women. Discontinuities in the microarchitecture of bone, such as trabeculae, are seen in postmenopausal osteoporosis. This study aimed to evaluate how sleep deprivation affects the distal femur trabecular thickness of estrogen-deficient rats treated with Zoledronate. 29 ovariectomized Wistar female rats were separated into 4 groups. The control group (C) was housed in standard housing with a 12-hour light/dark cycle and was given an intravenous injection of 0.45 mL of 0.9% saline. The Zoledronate group (Z) were also housed in standard conditions …

Coming Out Of The Shadows: Understanding Autism In Korean Culture, Yoojin Kim
Theses and Dissertations
Culture affects how the symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are perceived and addressed, and Korean culture has been affecting how individuals with ASD are perceived, diagnosed and treated in Korea, specifically the Republic of Korea. Stigmas about individuals with ASD have historically existed in Korean culture, and those stigmas have been affecting the diagnosis and social environment of individuals with ASD. Recent changes have been made to increase acceptance for individuals with ASD in Korea, but the literature has not yet brought this information together in a way that comprehensively portrays the current status of ASD perceptions, identification, intervention …

From Forests To Fish: Mercury In Mountain Lake Food Webs Influenced By Factors At Multiple Scales, Ariana M. Chiapella, Collin A. Eagles-Smith, Angela L. Strecker
Environmental Science and Management Faculty Publications and Presentations
Mountain lakes, while seemingly pristine, have been subjected to historical fish stocking practices and exposure to atmospherically deposited contaminants like mercury. Mercury bioaccumulation in these ecosystems varies widely due to strong environmental gradients, and there are complex, hierarchical factors that affect mercury transport and loading, methylmercury production, and food web biomagnification. We sought to assess how representative variables associated with watershed, lake, and food web-scale processes—specifically, catchment tree cover, lake benthic primary production, and fish diet, respectively—are associated with mercury concentrations in mountain lake fish. Mean fish mercury concentrations varied threefold between lakes, with nearshore tree cover and fish diet …
