Psychology Faculty Publications
Introduction: Functional Neurological Symptom Disorders (FNSD) are associated with high levels of disability and immense direct and indirect health costs. An innovative interdisciplinary rehabilitation approach for individuals with functional neurological symptoms of motor type–Nocebo-Hypothesis Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (NH-CBT)—combines CBT and movement retraining with video feedback embedded in a comprehensive explanatory model of the etiology of FNSD. Methods: This protocol describes the development and implementation of a phase II, parallel group, randomized controlled trial with blinded outcome assessors to compare the efficacy of NH-CBT with an active control condition (supportive counseling and movement retraining). Individuals meeting diagnostic criteria of an FNSD …

Corinne McCumber ’19 knows a rewarding opportunity when she sees one. As a research assistant for Distinguished McKnight University Professor of English Michael Lackey her junior year, McCumber began locating source materials for a couple projects, including an entry for the Dictionary of Literary Biography as well as a collection of Joanna Scott's interviews. When the opportunity came to interview the distinguished author for Lackey’s new book, Conversations with Joanna Scott (2020), McCumber saw a chance to dig deeper into the complexity of Scott’s work.

Impact Of Network And Host Characteristics On The Keystroke Pattern In Remote Desktop Sessions, I Kuzminykh, B Ghita, A Silonosov
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
Authentication based on keystroke dynamics is a convenient biometric approach, easy in use, transparent, and cheap as it does not require a dedicated sensor. Keystroke authentication, as part of multi factor authentication, can be used in remote display access to guarantee the security of use of remote connectivity systems during the access control phase or throughout the session. This paper investigates how network conditions and additional host interaction may impact the behavioural pattern of keystrokes when used in a remote desktop application scenario. We focus on the timing of adjacent keys and investigate this impact by calculating the variations of …

Application Of Image Registration Techniques To Medical Ct And Mr Images., Hossam El_Din Moustafa, Sameh Rehan
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Image registration has become one of the most widely used techniques in computer vision. Its applications include optical flow, notion analysis, tracking, face detection, and biomedical image registration. In the present work, three different techniques of image registration were implemented and applied to both Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. The first technique is based on Cross Correlation (CC). The second approach depends on Control Points' Selection (CPS) from both the reference and the input images. The last technique is based on Maximization of Mutual Information (MMI) between We two images. The registrability is calculated for each image …

With an increasing number of courses taught asynchronously online, it is important to explore how to implement high-impact practices in this modality. Service-learning – a high impact practice - is a course-based, credit-bearing type of experiential learning. It is important to understand instructional strategies and course design for service-learning in the online modality. This review provides an analysis of the last decade of research of Type II and Type IV eService-Learning (with service component online). Analysis of the literature reveals the absence of STEM disciplines, cursory attention to detailing reflection and assessment in describing learning environments in eService-Learning research, and …

Farmers’ Place-Based Discourse About Water Relations: Ways Of Knowing Water And Multispecies Survival, Jeffrey Alan Hoffmann
Farmers’ Place-Based Discourse About Water Relations: Ways Of Knowing Water And Multispecies Survival, Jeffrey Alan Hoffmann
Communication ETDs
The present study looks at farmers’ discourse about water and water relations. Through qualitative interviews using the method of cultural discourse analysis (CuDA), and the framework of ecocultural dialectics, the study reveals how, as farmers talk about water, they also make explicit and implicit arguments about specific cultural relations with the biosphere, as well as the role of identity, place, and power in designing and implementing agricultural solutions to ecological and social problems. I argue that the contradictions in how farmers discursively envision the problems of water pollution and scarcity, as well as solutions to those problems in their farming …

Wait Line Behaviors At Restaurants During Covid-19, Pamela E. Hollis, Cheyenne Vannier, Patrick Millegan, Jessica Reagan
Undergraduate Presentations
We were assigned to do field work observations through a series of individual data collection sessions. My group member and I choose to do observations at restaurants to see how covid has impacted waiting in line due to their facility reaching capacity. We each chose different locations to observe and collect data. Within this research project, we were able to identify different behaviors of people waiting. Some people were patient, kind, and courteous while other’s were impatient and rude. These observations were made by each observer at these different locations.
