Oh, Tannenbaum, Curt Macdougall

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

It's time to put up the tree again. I know this because my wife has been dropping those subtle hints for a few days now - watching Bing and Danny and Rosemary and Vera on endless repeat in the blue ray and gently reminding me that the neighbor's Christmas lights are already up. And so it begins.

Founding The Domain Of Ai Forensics, Ibrahim Baggili, Vahid Behzadan

Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications

With the widespread integration of AI in everyday and critical technologies, it seems inevitable to witness increasing instances of failure in AI systems. In such cases, there arises a need for technical investigations that produce legally acceptable and scientifically indisputable findings and conclusions on the causes of such failures. Inspired by the domain of cyber forensics, this paper introduces the need for the establishment of AI Forensics as a new discipline under AI safety. Furthermore, we propose a taxonomy of the subfields under this discipline, and present a discussion on the foundational challenges that lay ahead of this new research …

Building Mof Nanocomposites With Oxidized Graphitic Carbon Nitride Nanospheres: The Effect Of Framework Geometry On The Structural Heterogeneity, Dimitrios A. Giannakoudakis, Teresa J. Bandosz Dec 2019

Building Mof Nanocomposites With Oxidized Graphitic Carbon Nitride Nanospheres: The Effect Of Framework Geometry On The Structural Heterogeneity, Dimitrios A. Giannakoudakis, Teresa J. Bandosz

Publications and Research

Composite of two MOFs, copper-based Cu-BTC (HKUST-1) and zirconium-based Zr-BDC (UiO-66), with oxidized graphitic carbon nitride nanospheres were synthesized. For comparison, pure MOFs were also obtained. The surface features were analyzed using x-ray diffraction (XRD), sorption of nitrogen, thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The incorporation of oxidized g-C3N4 to the Cu-BTC framework caused the formation of a heterogeneous material of a hierarchical pores structure, but a decreased surface area when compared to that of the parent MOF. In the case of UiO-66, functionalized nanospheres were acting as seeds around which the crystals grew. Even though the MOF phases …

Does Dispensing Naloxone Kits To High-Risk Patients At The Time Of Emergency Department (Ed) Discharge Reduce The Burden Of Subsequent Overdose-Related Care?, Steven D. Perry, Charleen Gnisci, Rachel Beham Dec 2019

Does Dispensing Naloxone Kits To High-Risk Patients At The Time Of Emergency Department (Ed) Discharge Reduce The Burden Of Subsequent Overdose-Related Care?, Steven D. Perry, Charleen Gnisci, Rachel Beham

Emergency Medicine

Purpose: The rates of opioid-related overdose and death have remained at or near historically high levels despite reform in pharmaceutical opioid prescribing trends. This study will determine if a recently implemented protocol which aims to provide high-risk patients with naloxone emergency kits at the time of ED discharge has reduced the need for subsequent overdose-related care to a greater degree than providing the same patients with written outpatient naloxone prescriptions. Patients currently receive either intervention upon discharge from the ED based on a protocolized, criteria-based, provider-implemented decision-making tree that identifies patients at high risk for subsequent overdose.

Methods: This study …

Professional Practices (ART 399)

Love is everywhere, we see it all the time. It is something that I myself have even become obsessed with. Showing love through a surreal childlike eye with a twist of tongue-in-cheek, I desire to evoke the sense of complication through maximalism. My generation really inspires their endless influx of media; how Instagram profiles have turned into perfectly planned out color schemes, with set saturations and grain levels. I make work about millennials, the love within us. Exploring how we portray ourselves on social media, and the fantasy of how we portray this curated life, combined with pop culture is …

Impact Of High Profile Police Use Of Force Incidents On Violent Crime Rates, Megan Galante Dec 2019

Impact Of High Profile Police Use Of Force Incidents On Violent Crime Rates, Megan Galante

Honors Theses

This research study examined the relationship between high-profile police use of force incidents and local violent crime rates. It is important to analyze the impact that police use of force has on the respective community in regard to crime rates. This study analyzed three incidents of police use of force that have received extensive coverage in the media in order to determine if there was a change in the rates of violent crime in that city. The theory of de-policing suggests that in the aftermath of a high-profile incident of police brutality, police departments in the area change their behaviors …
