Listener Perception As A Measure Of Treatment Effectiveness In Voice Modification For A Transwoman, April M. Gutierrez

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess treatment effectiveness using listener perception as a measure of vocal femininity in a 22-year old transwoman.

Participant: The participant for this study was a monolingual, English-speaking, 22-year old transwoman. Inclusion criteria included self-identification as a transwoman. Exclusion criteria included surgical procedures to the vocal folds.

Methods: This cross-sectional survey study focused on using listener perception as a measure of treatment effectiveness in voice feminization. Political satire television is continuing to develop into an integral part of political rhetoric and evaluation to its viewers. This thesis explores the effects that consumption of political satire television might have on its consumers. Specifically, this study uses quantitative methods to examine the effects political satire has on political knowledge, political engagement, and trust in democratic institutions. Further, this study provides insight into the motivations for viewing or avoiding political satire TV. Two-photon microscopy has emerged as a highly efficient and effective imaging tool for biological samples. This can be utilized in studying recently emerging technologies and conditions such as the autophagy process in arabidopsis thaliana leaves and second harmonic generation in collagen. Both of these areas of study utilize the two-photon microscopy practice effectively in uncovering more information of the biological nature of examined samples.

Born Again With Trump: The Portrayal Of Evangelicals In The Media, Eun-Young Julia Kim

Since Trump’s ascendancy in American politics and his subsequent election, a number of articles have surfaced in the media trying to explain evangelical voters’ support of Trump. This paper analyzes common descriptions and conceptions of evangelicals by identifying recurring descriptions of evangelicals in 110 online articles published in a two-and-a-half-year period surrounding Trump’s presidential campaign and election. The results indicate that the answer to the question as to why evangelicals support Trump resides not so much in their theology, but in their aspirations for America and assumptions of what America should be like. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with an internal tandem duplication in Fms-related tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3-ITD) is identified as a subgroup with poor outcome and intrinsic resistance to chemotherapy and therefore urgent need for development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Methods: The antitumor effects of melatonin alone or combined with sorafenib were evaluated via flow cytometry and immunoblotting assays in FLT-ITD AML cells. Also, the ex vivo and in vivo models were used to test the synergistic effects of melatonin and sorafenib against leukemia with FLT3/ITD mutation.

The authors argue that UNCITRAL Working Group III, as part of its mandate for reform of the international investment regime, should consider issues at the core of the concerns about the regime's accountability and legitimacy, especially in the case of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS). These issues include: the right of standing for affected parties, the customary duty to exhaust local remedies, the chilling effect of ISDS, and the relationship of the international investment regime to goals of sustainable development and the rule of law. Procedural reforms of ISDS are necessary but not sufficient to address these concerns.

Why Appeals Courts Rarely Reverse Lower Courts: An Experimental Study To Explore Affirmation Bias, Barry C. Edwards

One of the most striking features of appellate courts in the United States is also one of the least understood: Appellate courts rarely reverse lower court decisions. The data reviewed in this Article indicate that roughly 90% of appellate court decisions affirm lower court rulings. Why do appeals courts so often affirm? Do trial court judges rarely make reversible errors or do appellate courts suffer from ¿affirmation bias¿ and fail to correct enough errors? These fundamental questions cannot be answered empirically, so I conducted a decision-making experiment with law students and political science majors. The results indicate that random variation …
