Influence Of Career Services On Time To Undergraduate Degree Completion, Courtney Taylor
Influence Of Career Services On Time To Undergraduate Degree Completion, Courtney Taylor
Dissertations
A national concern exists surrounding the value and quality of American higher education, as well as the extended time required to complete an undergraduate degree. Extending the time-to-degree completion costs students in tuition, room, board, and most importantly, missed career opportunities. More than 60% of students fail to graduate within four years, delaying entry to the labor market and increasing costs associated with a college degree (Bound, Lovenheim, & Turner, 2012; National Center for Education Statistics, 2017).
Numerous studies highlight college student persistence and retention efforts (Goodman, Hurwitz, & Smith, 2017; Hull-Blanks et al., 2005; Tinto, 1987, 2017), a few …

The current study sought to answer calls for larger samples and quantitative research methods at this intersection of identities by investigating the relationships between sexual minority identity development, religious schemata, R/S struggles, and life satisfaction among a sample of sexual minority adults with R/S experiences (N = 655). Hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to determine the variance explained by sexual identity development factors and religious schemata above and beyond the variance explained by demographic differences when explaining the outcome variables of …
Implementation Of A Smart Tool In The Electronic Health Record To Improve Interdisciplinary Discharge Communication And Hospital Readmission Rates, Katelin Umland
Nursing Capstones
In the department of Inpatient Psychiatry at a large mid-western academic medical center, interdisciplinary discharge communication between registered nurses, social workers, advanced practice providers, and physicians has presented as a problem. Patients are frequently discharged from the hospital without being seen by all necessary disciplines and concomitantly discharged without needed supplies, medications, resources, or follow-up appointments in place. This current discharge method negatively affects patient care, causes workflow disruption for all disciplines, and is known to be a contributing factor in increased hospital readmission rates. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to improve interdisciplinary communication …

Administrator Perceptions On Service Strengths And Challenges Regarding The Implementation Of Section 504 Services For Public Education Students In South Texas, Dora Diana Rodriguez
Theses and Dissertations
As part of their contemporary role as the campus instructional leader, administrators are currently managing special education matters previously managed by the school system’s directors of special education [(Boscardin, 2005; Patterson, Marshall, & Bowling, 2000) cited by Lynch, 2012]. School administrators must not only understand the legal requirements of Section 504, but they must understand how Section 504 services will influence their programs, decisions, facilities, and budgets (Trevino, 2001, p. 87). At a time of economic constriction and change, complying with the unfunded mandate of Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act presents a challenge to K-12 …

The Lived Experience Of Psychological Occupational Stress In Early Childhood Education, Brooke Fletcher
The Lived Experience Of Psychological Occupational Stress In Early Childhood Education, Brooke Fletcher
Capstone Experience: Master of Public Health
Early childhood education (ECE) programs have been recognized by the Institute of Medicine and the Administration for Children and Families as excellent interventions to alleviate the long-term negative effects of poverty in the United States, but the quality of intervention provided and outcomes for the target population are adversely hindered by high occupational stress burdens for ECE teachers. According to Sheridan, Edwards, Marvin, and Knoche, the models used to address this concern are not empirically supported for specific applicability to ECE nonprofit settings. There is a need for deeper understanding of the lived experiences of ECE teachers, including the psychological …

Exploring Institutional Culture As A Macrosystem Antecedent To University Workplace Bullying: An Organizational Ethnography, Samuel Tristam Aldridge
All Dissertations
Workplace bullying situated specifically in higher education has been an under-researched topic. Researchers have focused investigations in the academy toward the prevalence and nature of bullying. Consequently, institutional responses have largely centered on policy implementation in an attempt to discourage and eliminate the occurrence of the unwanted behavior. While prior research has identified organizational antecedents associated with workplace bullying, fewer studies have focused upon how certain organizational antecedents, such as organizational culture, facilitate incidents of bullying.
The purpose of this study was to explore an institution's organizational culture to determine how culture functioned as a macrosystem antecedent to university workplace …

Access to education has been at the forefront of public policy issues over the past several years. In order to combat relatively low rates of college attainment, Tennessee legislators implemented the Tennessee Promise program. It operates by providing financial aid for any direct costs not covered by students’ grants and scholarships. Notably, the program is not applicable to four-year degree programs; students wishing to utilize the funds must attend select schools that offer certificates and associate’s degrees. Community colleges are the most popular. While a boost in community college attendance has occurred, and more people will likely graduate with an …
