Adaptive windowing of insufficient cyclic prefix (CP) for joint minimization of intersymbol interference (ISI) and adjacent channel interference (ACI) is provided. The proposed subcarrier specific windowing scheme improves the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) even when the cyclic prefix (CP) is insufficient. Average optimal window lengths depend only on the power density profiles (PDPs), and although instantaneous optimal window lengths depend on users' channel impulse responses (CIRs), fluctuation is little. Therefore, subcarrier specific windowing outperforms fixed windowing, even with outdated window lengths in the case of powerful interferers.

Regulating Bodies: Children And Sexual Violence, Heather R. Hlavka
Social and Cultural Sciences Faculty Research and Publications
The interdisciplinary silences on sexual violence and the omission of children and youth from social science research speak volumes of the power of the child as a flexible, cultural signifier. In this article, I argue that dominant frameworks of children and childhood make child sexual assault a discursive impossibility for most young people. The epistemic violence of silencing matters, and it is these erasures that are fundamental to understanding violence and power. I argue it is paramount for feminist researchers to call attention to the undermining qualities of Institutional Review Boards that act as gatekeepers of representation and voice.

Gardner-Webb alumna, Kimberly Adams Sizemore, ’01, approached the college hunt with stamina and a robust list of requirements. “When I was picking colleges, my faith was really important to me,” she said. “I felt like I always thrived in Christian environments, so I was only looking at Christian schools, and I was only looking at Christian schools with a communications program. The fact that Gardner-Webb had a television emphasis was really appealing to me.”

Seeing Like A Citizen : Decolonization, Development, And The Making Of Kenya, 1945–1980, Kara Moskowitz
Ohio University Press Open Access Books
In Seeing Like a Citizen, Kara Moskowitz approaches Kenya’s late colonial and early postcolonial eras as a single period of political, economic, and social transition. In focusing on rural Kenyans—the vast majority of the populace and the main targets of development interventions—as they actively sought access to aid, she offers new insights into the texture of political life in decolonizing Kenya and the early postcolonial world.
Using multisited archival sources and oral histories focused on the western Rift Valley, Seeing Like a Citizen makes three fundamental contributions to our understanding of African and Kenyan history. First, it challenges the widely …

Ohio University Press Open Access Books
Africa Every Day presents an exuberant, thoughtful, and necessary counterpoint to the prevailing emphasis in introductory African studies classes on war, poverty, corruption, disease, and human rights violations on the continent. These challenges are real and deserve sustained attention, but this volume shows that adverse conditions do not prevent people from making music, falling in love, playing sports, participating in festivals, writing blogs, telling jokes, making videos, playing games, eating delicious food, and finding pleasure in their daily lives.
Across seven sections—Celebrations and Rites of Passage; Socializing and Friendship; Love, Sex, and Marriage; Sports and Recreation; Performance, Language, and Creativity; …

The Digital Librarian In The Community: Linking The Micro With The Macro, Ajimadeke Majekodunmi Dr., Njeze Eka Miracle, Babafemi Richard Adebayo
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Digital librarianship is no longer an emerging concept as considered some years back; it has grown to become a force to reckon with, since it bridges the gap between traditional and digital library by preserving information in an electronic format for quick access and retrieval by library patrons. Digital librarian ensure regular subscription of electronic content of the library, act as an intermediary manager between resources and patrons, a voyeur of current information, organizer of digital resources such as e-books/journals, library’s repository, e-preservation and social media. The digital librarian in the micro community is prone to challenges such as low …
Transgenic Control Of Aflatoxin Contamination In Maize Through Host-Induced Gene Silencing Targeting Aspergillus Flavus Genes Encoding Polygalacturonase (P2c) And Versicolorin Dehydrogenase (Aflm), Yenjit Raruang
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Maize (Zea mays L.) is susceptible to Aspergillus flavus infection and subsequent contamination with aflatoxins, the most potent naturally produced carcinogenic secondary metabolites. Here, the A. flavus gene aflM encoding the versicolorin dehydrogenase in aflatoxin biosynthesis and the p2c gene encoding the polygalacturonase that is involved in infection were selected as targets for suppression through host induced gene silencing (HIGS). A HIGS vector targeting these genes was constructed and introduced into immature B104 maize embryos. Thirteen out of fifteen p2c transformation events and six out of seven aflM events were confirmed positive by PCR. Kernels containing the p2c gene …

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice
Purpose/Background: Type 2 Diabetes is a serious contributor to mortality and morbidity. Rural populations (including those in Mountain West regions) exhibit greater health disparities than their urban counterparts for many conditions, including diabetes. It is therefore vital to address this important health issue, especially among rural populations. One way to address diabetes is with prevention, starting with enhanced detection of prediabetes. According to the CDC, more than 84 millions Americans (one in three adults) has prediabetes, but nine out of ten are not aware of their condition, which hampers prevention efforts. Infodemiology has been used successfully to track health information …

Ireland And Iceland In Crisis C: Iceland’S Landsbanki Icesave, Arwin G. Zeissler, Thomas Piontek, Andrew Metrick
Journal of Financial Crises
At year-end 2005, almost all of the total assets of Iceland’s banking system were concentrated in just three banks (Glitnir, Kaupthing, and Landsbanki). These banks were criticized by certain financial analysts in early 2006 for being overly dependent on wholesale funding, much of it short-term, that could easily disappear if creditors’ confidence in these banks faltered for any reason. Landsbanki, followed later by Kaupthing and then Glitnir, responded to this criticism and replaced part of their wholesale funding by using online accounts to gather deposits from individuals across Europe. In Landsbanki’s case, these new deposits were marketed under the name …

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
The conditions of selective extraction of the bismuth (III) by inert organic solvents in the presence of DMFA are established. The conditions for complex formation of the bismuth (III) with the PAN directly in the organic phase are found. It is possible to increase the sensitivity of the methodology using more sensitive azoreagents that have not found the application in practice due to their low selectivity. The effect of extraneous ions on the results of the definition of the bismuth (III) with the PAN azoreagent is investigated. In the presence of large amounts of extraneous ions the determination of bismuth …
