My creative research looks at how Augmented Reality (AR) can help overcome Learning Disabilities. This focus has directed me to develop a number of ideas and concepts that seek to understand how the addition of information in an augmented view could help tackle some of the challenges different Learning Disabilities present while, at the same time, appealing to a larger audience. This concept was the foundation for creating the immersive mobile application tagAR™, which adds a digital name tag into your augmented view, replacing the traditional “Hello, my name is” sticker version. It allows you to see the names of …

Del-Sign is a physical approach to acting that uses elements of Francois Delsarte mime techniques with the foundations of American Sign Language. This acting and presentational technique uses cross-cultural physical communication as a way to deepen an actors’ performance, support a presenter’s lecture, or can be used as a format from which to create animations that communicate with or without verbal language. It is a historical fact that Deaf actors using the foundations of Sign Language influenced the movie industry (Higgins). In silent movie infancy Deaf performers were brought in as consultants to ensure that the gestures, relational positions, facial …

VRsus guARdian is the result of an amalgamation of two different gameplay mediums that challenged the gap separating different mixed reality platforms, namely virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The game utilized each medium’s approach towards immersion as a design principle in building a natural, asymmetric play for both players. The game also constructed a compelling fantasy atop each medium’s unique interactive capability to build a dynamic narrative. Lastly, the cross-platform nature of VRsus guARdian caused the game to be highly dependent upon Unity, a game engine with highly accessible, platform-agnostic development capabilities.

Camera To Enable World-Locked Augmented Reality, Anonymous
Camera To Enable World-Locked Augmented Reality, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
World-locked augmented reality (AR) is a type of AR in which virtual objects are placed with reference to real objects, e.g., in a coordinate system anchored to real objects. World-locked AR is generally more realistic than other types of AR. However, the adoption of world-locked AR is hindered due to the lack of an ergonomic way of experiencing world-locked AR. This disclosure describes a mobile device with a camera configuration that enables a user to experience world-locked AR while holding the phone at a natural angle, e.g., 15-to-30 degrees to the horizontal plane.
Identification Of Human T Cell Biomarkers: A Gene Signature For Cd8 T Cell Exhaustion And Ultrasensitive Elisa Methods For Il-21, Joshua Poorbaugh
Identification Of Human T Cell Biomarkers: A Gene Signature For Cd8 T Cell Exhaustion And Ultrasensitive Elisa Methods For Il-21, Joshua Poorbaugh

CD8 T cell exhaustion is the progressive, step-wise loss of T cell function due to persistent antigen stimulation. Given the importance of this phenomenon in sustaining chronic infections and preventing clearance of tumors, as well as potentially influencing autoimmune disorders, novel biomarkers must be established to monitor CD8 T cell exhaustion and the factors that influence its development (e.g. presence of CD4 helper cytokines, like IL-21). In this study, a six-day in vitro model of CD8 T cell exhaustion was characterized to evaluate the reduced functional capacity of these cells. Cells derived in this model possessed sustained inhibitory receptor expression …

The growing global health threat of vaccine hesitancy is believed to be fueled by anti-vaccine movements around the world. Overall, the strong presence of anti-vaccination groups on the Internet, particularly social media, are important for bringing attention and attracting people to the cause. Such platforms are an ideal medium for the dissemination of anti-vaccination ideas, which often entail the spread of false or “fake” news and information questioning vaccine efficacy and safety. As this epidemic of online fake news is causing major disruptions in vaccine programs around the world, the current study employed the Heuristic Systematic model (HSM) to elucidate …

The Role Of Multidrug Resistance Regulators Mara, Soxs, Rob And Rama In Regulating Virulence Traits In Salmonella Enterica, Srinivas Thota
Dissertations
Enteric pathogens sense numerous signals specific to the anatomical location in the intestine and integrate them with the complex regulatory networks to temporally and spatially regulate their virulence genes. MarA, SoxS, Rob and RamA are homologous transcription factors that belong to AraC family of proteins in Salmonella enterica that primarily were thought to be involved in rendering antibiotic resistance to bacteria by up regulating efflux pumps and down regulating outer membrane porins. The fact that these transcription factors respond to the same intestinal compounds that regulate virulence genes in Salmonella motivated us to look for other roles of these transcription …

An Examination Of Relationships Between Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (Asmr) And Facets Of Mindfulness, Marisa Anne Del Campo
An Examination Of Relationships Between Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (Asmr) And Facets Of Mindfulness, Marisa Anne Del Campo
Doctoral Dissertations
Many descriptions of a phenomenon known as autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) are appearing online and in respected mainstream media outlets. ASMR is a non-scientific term used to describe a pleasant tingling sensation in response to certain sensory and/or affective triggers (Barratt & Davis, 2015). Given that “mindfulness can foster an enhanced sensitivity to internal and external stimuli”, previous work by Harrison and Clark (2016; p. 3) correctly hypothesized a relationship between the Observing facet of trait mindfulness and heightened responses to works of art, including the aesthetic chill response. ASMR appears to share some similarities with the chill response, …

Viral Surrogates In Potable Reuse Applications: Evaluation Of A Membrane Bioreactor And Full Advanced Treatment, Katerina Papp, Duane Moser, Daniel Gerrity
Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Faculty Research
This study employed quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to evaluate the occurrence and removal of five microbial surrogates at two water reuse facilities. The surrogates were (1) the 16S rRNA gene; (2) the AllBac assay for Bacteroides; (3) the Bacteroides bacteriophage ϕB124-14ϕB124-14; (4) the Bacteroides bacteriophage ϕcrAssphage; and (5) the pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV). Log removal values (LRVs) were quantified for a membrane bioreactor (MBR) and across a full advanced treatment (FAT) train. PMMoV, ϕB124-14ϕB124-14, and ϕcrAssphageϕcrAssphage were detected in the MBR feed at concentrations of approximately 103 gene copies(gc)/mL103 gene copies(gc)/mL, 105 gc/mL105 gc/mL, and 106 gc/mL106 gc/mL, …

This short paper, written in three different sections, explores how a cryptocurrency’s issuance and network effects could fund higher education. Synthesizing research from the Bronx Community College Cryptocurrency Research Lab, Bernard Lietaer’s notion of creating money for the needs of society, lessons learned by Galia Benartzi and the Hearts Project, and an exploration of how communities coalesce around open-source cryptocurrency projects, the authors provide an overview of the problem of funding higher education, the ways in which money that is needed could be created, and the key components to building a highly effective developer community. These three distinct yet vitally …
