Constant Pressure Valve To Compensate Extraction System Pressure Variations, Hp Inc Dec 2019

Constant Pressure Valve To Compensate Extraction System Pressure Variations, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

Some 3D Printing technology heavily depends on the internal printing conditions in the

Printing Chamber. One of the most important variables are temperature and pressure.

The first permits to have temperature in a narrow range in order to have powder surface

at constant conditions for printing process. Pressure and pressure distribution inside the

chamber permits defined airflows within this cabinet.

Energy sources may include Fusing Lamps and Top Lamps. As the powder itself has a

particular reflectance, not all the energy is absorbed, but reflected inside the printing

chamber. Additionally, there are other heat sources in order to keep the …

A Job Tree Structure To Track Auto Generated Build Envelope Status And Consumption, Hp Inc Dec 2019

A Job Tree Structure To Track Auto Generated Build Envelope Status And Consumption, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

When a 3D printer user wants to print a job and do an external cooling, he needs to indicate this prior

to sending the job to the printer, so the system can behave accordingly to ensure the best part quality

possible. One of the actions of the system consists in generating a build envelope to physically protect

the build content when it is transferred to the external cooling unit. The user always wants to have some

information about all the printed parts, including the autogenerated ones. Thus, we need to provide a

mechanism to be able to track what happens …

cooled down.

Film And Video As A Space For Political Expression And Social Critique In Syria, Charlotte Bank Dec 2019

Film And Video As A Space For Political Expression And Social Critique In Syria, Charlotte Bank

Artl@s Bulletin

This article discusses examples of transgressive artistic production in Syria with a focus on moving images. During the 2000s, a young generation of artists began to experiment with digital video and rethink the role of the artist in society. They sought to develop new aesthetic languages and modes of representation. By examining this production in relation to critical and committed works by earlier generations of artists and filmmakers in Syria, I discuss the possibilities and limits of critical art production in the context of the authoritarian Syrian state.

Mining Maps, Making Meaning: An Interview With Kasia Ozga, Nikoo Paydar

Artl@s Bulletin

In the following interview with Kasia Ozga, the Polish-French-American contemporary artist focuses on her Mapping Aluminum series from 2013-2014, metal relief sculptures that throw light on environmental issues arising from bauxite mining and aluminum processing and smelting. Ozga illuminates how she came to focus on the material aluminum, the context in which she developed the project and selected the mapped sites (the Saint Lawrence River in Massena, NY, the Simandou Mountain Range in Guinea, and Ajka Vezprém County, Hungary), and how borders, cartography and maps figure in her larger body of work.

Generalized Matrix Decomposition Regression: Estimation And Inference For Two-Way Structured Data, Yue Wang, Ali Shojaie, Tim Randolph, Jing Ma Dec 2019

Generalized Matrix Decomposition Regression: Estimation And Inference For Two-Way Structured Data, Yue Wang, Ali Shojaie, Tim Randolph, Jing Ma

UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series

Analysis of two-way structured data, i.e., data with structures among both variables and samples, is becoming increasingly common in ecology, biology and neuro-science. Classical dimension-reduction tools, such as the singular value decomposition (SVD), may perform poorly for two-way structured data. The generalized matrix decomposition (GMD, Allen et al., 2014) extends the SVD to two-way structured data and thus constructs singular vectors that account for both structures. While the GMD is a useful dimension-reduction tool for exploratory analysis of two-way structured data, it is unsupervised and cannot be used to assess the association between such data and an outcome of interest. …

Coming Of Age In The Cuban Revolution: A Dialogic Analysis Of Gerzom Gomez’S Memoir, Suny Cardenas-Gomez Dec 2019

Coming Of Age In The Cuban Revolution: A Dialogic Analysis Of Gerzom Gomez’S Memoir, Suny Cardenas-Gomez

Capstone Research Projects

This paper reveals common themes in literature about the turbulent changes occurring in pre-revolutionary Cuba. Included is an original communicative translation of selections from the memoir of my grandfather Gerzom Gomez from roughly 1935 to1965. He was coming of age in 1959 when Castro’s Revolution triumphed. The center of the project is a dialogic analysis of work by other Cuban authors writing during or about the pre-revolutionary period. Through the analysis, I discover that my grandfather’s memoir and the other texts share the following common themes: life in a military state, complicated family relationships, coming of age, and the realization, …

Colorants In Cheese Manufacture: Production, Chemistry, Interactions, And Regulation, Prateek Sharma, Annalisa Segat, Alan L. Kelly, Jeremiah J. Sheehan

Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences Faculty Publications

Colored Cheddar cheeses are prepared by adding an aqueous annatto extract (norbixin) to cheese milk; however, a considerable proportion (∼20%) of such colorant is transferred to whey, which can limit the end use applications of whey products. Different geographical regions have adopted various strategies for handling whey derived from colored cheeses production. For example, in the United States, whey products are treated with oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide to obtain white and colorless spray‐dried products; however, chemical bleaching of whey is prohibited in Europe and China. Fundamental studies have focused on understanding the interactions between colorants …

Co‐construction theory suggests adolescents use digital communication to address developmental challenges. For a sample of 214 ethnically diverse adolescents, this research used direct observation to investigate the frequency, content, and timing of texting with parents, peers, and romantic partners through grades 9–12. Analyses showed that texting frequency follows a curvilinear trajectory, peaking in eleventh grade. Adolescents discussed a range of topics, predominantly with peers. Communication with parents was less frequent, but consistent over time. Approximately 45‐65% of adolescents communicated with romantic partners, texting heavily and about topics similar to those discussed with peers. Texting may help adolescents navigate key developmental …

Gaze Collaboration Patterns Of Successful And Unsuccessful Programming Pairs Using Cross-Recurrence Quantification Analysis, Maureen Villamor, Ma. Mercedes T. Rodrigo Dec 2019

Gaze Collaboration Patterns Of Successful And Unsuccessful Programming Pairs Using Cross-Recurrence Quantification Analysis, Maureen Villamor, Ma. Mercedes T. Rodrigo

Department of Information Systems & Computer Science Faculty Publications

A dual eye tracking experiment was performed on pairs of novice programmers as they traced and debugged fragments of code. These programming pairs were categorized into successful and unsuccessful pairs based on their debugging scores. Cross-recurrence quantification analysis (CRQA), an analysis using cross-recurrence plots (CRP), was used to determine whether there are significant differences in the gaze collaboration patterns between these pair categories. Results showed that successful and unsuccessful pairs can be characterized distinctively based on their CRPs and CRQA metrics. This study also attempted to interpret the CRQA metrics in relation to how the pairs collaborated in order to …

Hybrid Dispute Resolution Beyond The Belt And Road: Toward A New Design Of Chinese Arb-Med(-Arb) And Its Global Implications, Weixia Gu Dec 2019

Hybrid Dispute Resolution Beyond The Belt And Road: Toward A New Design Of Chinese Arb-Med(-Arb) And Its Global Implications, Weixia Gu

Washington International Law Journal

Arb-med is a form of hybrid dispute resolution that combines an adjudicative approach (arbitration) with a non-adjudicative approach (mediation). Dispute resolution clauses requiring arb-med will assume a popular role in resolving disputes that arise under China’s Belt and Road Initiative. This article argues that China should regulate arb-med in a way to reconcile local practices (mediation) with international expectations (arbitration) in context of the BRI. As an economic bloc proposed by China, the BRI development has the potential to promote dispute resolution means with Chinese characteristics such as arb-med. Global comparative study of leading arbitration jurisdictions in the East and …

Moving Toward Non-Transcription Based Discourse Analysis In Stable And Progressive Aphasia, Sarah Grace Dalton, H. Isabel Hubbard, Jessica D. Richardson Dec 2019

Moving Toward Non-Transcription Based Discourse Analysis In Stable And Progressive Aphasia, Sarah Grace Dalton, H. Isabel Hubbard, Jessica D. Richardson

Speech Pathology and Audiology Faculty Research and Publications

Measurement of communication ability at the discourse level holds promise for predicting how well persons with stable (e.g., stroke-induced), or progressive aphasia navigate everyday communicative interactions. However, barriers to the clinical utilization of discourse measures have persisted. Recent advancements in the standardization of elicitation protocols and the existence of large databases for development of normative references have begun to address some of these barriers. Still, time remains a consistently reported barrier by clinicians. Non-transcription based discourse measurement would reduce the time required for discourse analysis, making clinical utilization a reality. The purpose of this article is to present evidence regarding …

Antimicrobial Peptide Identification Using Multi-Scale Convolutional Network, Xin Su, Jing Xu, Yanbin Yin, Xiongwen Quan, Han Zhang

Department of Food Science and Technology: Faculty Publications

Background: Antibiotic resistance has become an increasingly serious problem in the past decades. As an alternative choice, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have attracted lots of attention. To identify new AMPs, machine learning methods have been commonly used. More recently, some deep learning methods have also been applied to this problem.

Results: In this paper, we designed a deep learning model to identify AMP sequences. We employed the embedding layer and the multi-scale convolutional network in our model. The multi-scale convolutional network, which contains multiple convolutional layers of varying filter lengths, could utilize all latent features captured by the multiple convolutional layers. …

Chloroviruses, James L. Van Etten, Irina V. Agarkova, David D. Dunigan Dec 2019

Chloroviruses, James L. Van Etten, Irina V. Agarkova, David D. Dunigan

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications

Chloroviruses are large dsDNA, plaque-forming viruses that infect certain chlorella-like green algae; the algae are normally mutualistic endosymbionts of protists and metazoans and are often referred to as zoochlorellae. The viruses are ubiquitous in inland aqueous environments throughout the world and occasionally single types reach titers of thousands of plaque-forming units per ml of native water. The viruses are icosahedral in shape with a spike structure located at one of the vertices. They contain an internal membrane that is required for infectivity. The viral genomes are 290 to 370 kb in size, which encode up to 16 tRNAs and 330 …

Publications and Research

System-involvement resulting from anti-trafficking interventions and the criminalization of sex work and migration results in negative health impacts on sex workers, migrants, and people with trafficking experiences. Due to their stigmatized status, sex workers and people with trafficking experiences often struggle to access affordable, unbiased, and supportive health care. This paper will use thematic analysis of qualitative data from in-depth interviews and ethnographic fieldwork with 50 migrant sex workers and trafficked persons, as well as 20 key informants from legal and social services, in New York and Los Angeles. It will highlight the work of trans-specific and sex worker-led initiatives …

Blockchain Based Access Control For Enterprise Blockchain Applications, Lei Xu, Isaac Markus, Subhod I, Nikhil Nayab Dec 2019

Blockchain Based Access Control For Enterprise Blockchain Applications, Lei Xu, Isaac Markus, Subhod I, Nikhil Nayab

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Access control is one of the fundamental security mechanisms of IT systems. Most existing access control schemes rely on a centralized party to manage and enforce access control policies. As blockchain technologies, especially permissioned networks, find more applicability beyond cryptocurrencies in enterprise solutions, it is expected that the security requirements will increase. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an access control system that works in a decentralized environment without compromising the unique features of a blockchain. A straightforward method to support access control is to deploy a firewall in front of the enterprise blockchain application. However, this approach does not …

How Save Aquinas's "Intellectus Essentiae Arguement" For The Real Distinction Between Essence And Esse?, David Twetten Dec 2019

How Save Aquinas's "Intellectus Essentiae Arguement" For The Real Distinction Between Essence And Esse?, David Twetten

Philosophy Faculty Research and Publications

Aquinas’ so-called “Intellectus essentiae Argument” for the distinction between being and essence is notoriously suspect, including among defenders of Aquinas’ distinction. For the paper in this volume, I take as my starting point the recent defense of the argument by Fr. Lawrence Dewan, O.P. Fr. Dewan’s project is unsuccessful. Pointing out some shortcomings in his readings allows me to take up his call to highlight the “formal” or “quidditative side” of Aquinas’ metaphysics, in this case in regards to the proofs of the “real distinction.” Accordingly, the second half of this paper sets forth a way in which the …

Target-To-Target Interaction In Through-The-Wall Radars Under Path Loss Compensated Multipath Exploitation-Based Signal Model For Sparse Image Reconstruction, Emmanuel K. Kokumo, Baraka Maiseli, Abdi T. Abdalla Dec 2019

Target-To-Target Interaction In Through-The-Wall Radars Under Path Loss Compensated Multipath Exploitation-Based Signal Model For Sparse Image Reconstruction, Emmanuel K. Kokumo, Baraka Maiseli, Abdi T. Abdalla

Tanzania Journal of Science

Multipath caused by reflections from interior walls of buildings has been a long-standing challenge that affects through-the-wall radar imaging. Multipath creates ghost images that introduce confusion when detecting desired targets. Traditionally, multipath exploitation techniques under the compressive sensing framework have widely been applied to address the challenge. However, the multipath component emanating from target-to-target interactions has not been considered–a consequence that may, under multiple target scenarios, lead to incorrect image interpretation. Besides, far targets experience more attenuation due to free space path loss, hence resulting into target undetectability. This study proposes a signal model, based on multipath exploitation techniques, by …
