Resistance To Ectromelia Virus Infection Requires Cgas In Bone Marrow-Derived Cells Which Can Be Bypassed With Cgamp Therapy., Eric B. Wong, Brian Montoya, Maria Ferez, Colby Stotesbury, Luis J. Sigal

Department of Microbiology and Immunology Faculty Papers

Cells sensing infection produce Type I interferons (IFN-I) to stimulate Interferon Stimulated Genes (ISGs) that confer resistance to viruses. During lympho-hematogenous spread of the mouse pathogen ectromelia virus (ECTV), the adaptor STING and the transcription factor IRF7 are required for IFN-I and ISG induction and resistance to ECTV. However, it is unknown which cells sense ECTV and which pathogen recognition receptor (PRR) upstream of STING is required for IFN-I and ISG induction. We found that cyclic-GMP-AMP (cGAMP) synthase (cGAS), a DNA-sensing PRR, is required in bone marrow-derived (BMD) but not in other cells for IFN-I and ISG induction and for …

Application Of Knowledge Management In Academic Libraries: A Swot Analysis, Roseline Bawack Dec 2019

Application Of Knowledge Management In Academic Libraries: A Swot Analysis, Roseline Bawack

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Academic libraries do not operate in a vacuum, they coexist with changes, challenges and competition on all levels, therefore, strategies must be developed to ensure that academic libraries can face these challenges, become more efficient in their operations and be responsible to the needs and demands of their users. To do this requires among others an examination of both the internal library environment and the external environment (Broadhead 1991). Academic libraries must know their internal strengths, take advantage of opportunities, avoid all threats and address weaknesses. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. A SWOT analysis of an academic …

An Improved Method For Characterizing Coal Metamorphism By Xrd, Wang Chao, Zhao Younan, Wang Zhenwei, Lu Zhaolin Dec 2019

An Improved Method For Characterizing Coal Metamorphism By Xrd, Wang Chao, Zhao Younan, Wang Zhenwei, Lu Zhaolin

Coal Geology & Exploration

At present, the X-ray measurement method of coal metamorphism has the problem that the γ band is not well divided, the δ peak information is not used, and the background of the bottom is unreasonable. The X-ray diffraction pattern of coal with different metamorphosed degrees is compared and studied. It is proposed to correct the metamorphic coefficient formula by using the information of the slope of the 002 peak, the extended half-height width and the δ peak without deducting the so-called background information. The calculation of the XRD patterns of coal samples with different degrees of metamorphism is verified. The …

Mine Water Inrush Rescue Model Based On Optimized Spfa Algorithm, Cai Mingjie, Zhu Xi’An, Liu Demin, Wang Zhangang

Coal Geology & Exploration

Due to the occurrence of coal mine water inrush accidents, it is easy to cause major personnel and property losses. In order to improve the emergency rescue capability of mine water inrush disasters and reduce the water inrush hazard, a mine water inrush rescue route model was proposed. The undirected map and the adjacency list were used to describe and store the mine roadway network. According to the calculation ratio of the height of the water level and the height of underground personnel in roadway, the safety coefficient of the roadway was calculated, and then the equivalent length of the …

Csamt Phase Correction And Its Application In Detection Of Water-Accumulating Area Of Goaf In Coal Mine, Su Chao, Hou Yanwei, Wang Cheng, Li Dan Dec 2019

Csamt Phase Correction And Its Application In Detection Of Water-Accumulating Area Of Goaf In Coal Mine, Su Chao, Hou Yanwei, Wang Cheng, Li Dan

Coal Geology & Exploration

Magnetic field data of controlled source audio magnetotelluric method(CSAMT) is vulnerable to electromagnetic interference, and will lead to serious degradation of phase data quality. The affected phase data are corrected by referring to the high quality phase data of adjacent measuring points and combining the least squares fitting and interpolation method. Through forward simulation analysis, it is found that cubic polynomial interpolation is effective, not only can restore the variation characteristics of phase curve more accurately, but also involve the corrected phase data in the inversion calculation, so that the inversion results are more accurate and reliable. The method is …

Is It T3 Thyrotoxicosis? A Case Of Falsely Elevated Tri-Iodothyronine (T3) Levels Leading To A Diagnosis Of Multiple Myeloma, Nanik Ram, Saira Furqan, Sibtain Ahmed Dec 2019

Is It T3 Thyrotoxicosis? A Case Of Falsely Elevated Tri-Iodothyronine (T3) Levels Leading To A Diagnosis Of Multiple Myeloma, Nanik Ram, Saira Furqan, Sibtain Ahmed

Section of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism

We are presenting a case of falsely elevated T3 levels in a patient due to interference from monoclonal immunoglobulins. A 56-year-old, clinically euthyroid man referred to the endocrinology clinic of the Aga Khan university, Karachi Pakistan, for possible T3 thyrotoxicosis after thyroid function tests revealed total T3 >12.32 nmol/L (reference range 0.6-2.79), normal TSH, and total T4 level. There was a mismatch in clinical and laboratory parameters and preliminary laboratory results were suggestive of thyroid binding globulin abnormalities. Further evaluation in this context unmasked multiple myeloma. The presence of monoclonal immunoglobulins can lead to assay interference and spurious results. To …

Application Of Quadratic Constitutive Relation To One- Equation K-Kl Turbulence Model, Hanfeng Zhang, Ramesh K. Agarwal

Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study

This paper analyzes the accuracy of the recently developed one-equation k-kL turbulence model with Quadratic Constitutive Relation (QCR) compared to the linear Boussinesq relation and Algebraic Reynolds Stress Model (ARSM). The computational results in several benchmark cases from NASA TMR are compared to other widely used one equation turbulence models with QCR, such as Spalart-Allmaras model (SA), Wray-Agarwal model (WA) and SST k-ω model. In particular, one-equation k-kL-QCR model shows good accuracy with experimental data for supersonic flow in a square duct where the effect of QCR is clearly visible in capturing the secondary flow vortices which is not feasible …

The Use Of Functional Traits To Identify Grasses And Fodder Shrubs For Domestication To Suit A Changing Climate, Meredith L. Mitchell, R. D. B. Whalley, Hayley C. Norman

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

There is uncertainty about future climatic predictions; however there is little doubt amongst experts that the future will be warmer. Climate change and the associated elevation in atmospheric CO2 level and temperatures will provide novel challenges and potential opportunities for cultivated plant species. Plant breeding and domestication can contributed to improvements in both yield and quality of grasses and fodder shrubs. A range of key functional traits is required to cope with this changing climate. The main challenges that are discussed are new pests and pathogens; changes in the pattern of nutrient supply and forage quality; challenge associated with …

Simulating Tall Fescue Pasture Growth In Argentina, Horacio Berger, Claudio F. Machado, Mónica G. Agnusdei, Brendan R. Cullen

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) pastures have the potential to maintain high production rates under limiting climate conditions, especially in dry summers, improving the seasonal distribution of forage growth and year round production (Tharmaraj et al. 2008). The purpose of this work was to test the ability and flexibility of the DairyMod biophysical pasture-simulation model (Johnson et al. 2008), to predict herbage mass accumulation (HMA), of tall fescue pastures from Argentina under several environmental conditions that included different seasons, nitrogen fertilizer application levels and irrigation.

Copyright © 2019 American Chemical Society. Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements were pursued to study human vitronectin, a protein found in tissues and the circulation that regulates cell adhesion/migration and proteolytic cascades that govern hemostasis and pericellular proteolysis. Many of these functions occur via interactions with its binding partner, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), the chief inhibitor of proteases that lyse and activate plasminogen. We focused on a region of vitronectin that remains uncharacterized from previous X-ray scattering, nuclear magnetic resonance, and computational modeling approaches and which we propose is involved in binding to PAI-1. This region, which bridges the N-terminal …

Training And Support Of Unit Preceptors_A Literature Review Of Most Successful Tools, Corinne E. Jones Dec 2019

Training And Support Of Unit Preceptors_A Literature Review Of Most Successful Tools, Corinne E. Jones

Nursing Capstones

With nurses entering the workforce in the millions, preceptors are used to educate and train preceptees in clinical settings. A knowledge-practice gap exists when preceptors are put into their roles without any training regarding how to perform their preceptor duties. While preceptor education is desired among preceptors, there are no set standards for how preceptor training is delivered or what content is included. This paper reviews current literature and synthesizes results to form general guidelines regarding how best to deliver preceptor education and concept themes to be included in preceptor education. The databases CINAHL, PsycINFO, and ERIC were searched for …

How could a company make sure that their intellectual property is being used correctly and according to the

agreements set with Print-Service-Providers (PSP) So far the copyright laws did not catch up to this new 3D print

world and one of the challenges is to enable Content Providers to track the agreements set with PSPs, and allowing

management of thousands of different PSPs printing a variety of models per bucket (3D bed filled with objects to be

printed). Some of these models can have copyright and some not, creating a heterogeneous print bucket. The models

in the bucket may have …

Identify Print Quality Or Sub-System Degradation Issues For 3d Printers Using Layer Time Analysis, Hp Inc Dec 2019

Identify Print Quality Or Sub-System Degradation Issues For 3d Printers Using Layer Time Analysis, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

One of the core concepts in additive manufacturing is to have accurate powder deposition on bed

with uniform duration throughout the print job. The inaccuracy in job layer duration arising when

some layers take more or lesser than the recommended value, often results in bad part quality issue

or indicate issues with print hardware components.

This disclosure describes a method for improving Print Quality (PQ) and reduce unplanned

downtime (due to sub-system failure) by looking at layer time for the print cycles and figuring if

they are running off the prescribed limits for the material used. Based on this information …
