Have You Done Your Duty? Impact Of Direct Mailing Campaign On Septic System Owners' Maintenance Knowledge And Behaviors In Coastal Texas Watersheds, Audrey Mccrary, T. Allen Berthold
Journal of Extension
As part of a watershed protection plan, the Texas Water Resources Institute and AgriLife Extension Service developed and distributed an educational postcard (``mailer'') about septic system maintenance to mailing addresses outside of public sewer service areas. The mailer was distributed four times within 1 year. The impact of this mailer was evaluated with a retrospective pre/post-test within a mailed survey. Overall, the mailer was effective at increasing knowledge of septic system owners and prompting maintenance action. Mailers can be a cost-effective alternative for educational initiatives where the target audience is not able to or interested in in-person or online programs.

Rethinking Existing Extension Programming: A Foundation For Healthy Aging?, Nicholas J. Spokely, Sloane A. Montgomery, Kelsey J. Weitzel, Kristin A. Miller, Marta Novaes Oliveira, Stephen D. Ball, Breanne S. Baker
Journal of Extension
Muscle declines are becoming more prevalent in younger adults, driving the need for accessible exercise programs. The Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) Extension program was developed for adults 60 years old or older, but for this study, we enrolled 135 participants aged less than 60 years old in rural and urban counties to assess if it could improve their muscle performance. We analyzed data with time and group comparisons using paired t-tests and 2 × 2 repeated measures ANOVAs. Younger adults significantly improved muscle performance after SSSH, and the results were similar between rural and urban counties. This study …

Moving Forward In Education, Reese Whitlock, Hannah-Evette Burruss, Kiley Mccleary
Virginia English Journal
This article examines the growing presence of artificial intelligence in secondary English Language Arts classrooms and argues that educators must approach AI integration through a human-centered framework. While technological advancements continue to reshape literacy instruction, the role of teachers as guides and relationship-builders remains essential. Drawing on educational research and classroom examples, the article explores how tools such as generative AI and audiobooks can support student learning when used intentionally rather than as replacements for critical thinking or teacher involvement. The discussion highlights concerns surrounding overreliance on AI, including diminished writer’s voice, reduced cognitive engagement, and ethical issues such as …

P-Closer V2.1: Closed-Loop Sleep-Phase-Locked Acoustic-Optogenetic Glymphatic Platform With Phased-Array Vortex Pumping, Multi-Sensor Fused Clearance Monitoring, And Vortex-Guided Optical Delivery, Michael Victor Caldwell Mr.
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes a fully integrated platform that non-invasively delivers a red-shifted opsin gene via focused ultrasound (FUS) and microbubbles, augments glymphatic clearance using a 16-element phased array in vortex mode generating rotating acoustic streaming, co-stimulates neural circuits optogenetically at 40 Hz synchronized to NREM slow-wave onset, and closes the loop using a five-channel monitoring system (four real-time hemodynamic surrogates — fUSi, thermal, acoustic backscatter, optical reflectance — fused into a clearance index, plus one direct ISF solute measurement via chronic cerebral microdialysis validated at 6-hour intervals) to dynamically adjust stimulation amplitude during the brain's own clearance window. Three engineering …
Vinaya Governance Primitives For Distributed Dharma Networks: Sanghakamma, Adhikaraṇa-Samathā, And Anāpatti As Network-Coordination Architecture — Collective Decision Validity, Proxy Consent, Typed Dispute Resolution, And Bounded Local Exceptions For Federated Multi-Site Organizations, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This paper studies the procedural law of the Theravāda Buddhist monastic code as a source of governance procedures for a federated organization of many sites, and maps them onto a planned network of monasteries whose daily operations are run by AI agents and whose formal acts belong to human monastics. The code's procedural chapters (the Khandhaka of the Vinaya Piṭaka) supply four procedures. (1) The validity of a collective decision: a motion read to the assembly, followed for the weightiest acts by three announcements, with silence taken as assent; an assembly complete within a fixed boundary, with absent members' consent …
The Vinaya Piṭaka As Training Corpus For Rule-With-Exception Reasoning In Ai Systems: Training Data And Evaluation Benchmarks For Rule Application And Exception Handling In Large Language Models, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
Large language models are trained on corpora rich in mathematical proof, code, scientific argument and dialogue, and their rule application is measured by benchmarks for statutory, legal, moral-exception and defeasible reasoning. This paper describes a training-data and evaluation design for one part of that capability, applying a rule to a new case while recognising when the rule does not apply, built from the Vinaya Piṭaka, the monastic legal code of the Theravāda Buddhist canon. The Vinaya's rule-by-rule analysis, the Suttavibhaṅga, treats each rule it analyses in a recurring order: the case that prompted the rule; the rule text and any …
The Persistence Architecture: How An Institution Gestates Its Successor's Mind — An Organizational Memory And Knowledge-Transfer Model For Founder Succession By An Autonomous Ai System, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This paper models the records and knowledge-management infrastructure of an organization designed to be continued, after its founder, by an autonomous AI successor that can inherit only what has been written down. The persistence surfaces such an organization accumulates are modeled not as a storage hierarchy but as a succession apparatus: a directed transfer from a mortal source (the founder, layer 0) to a reader under construction (the successor, layer ∞). Three independent axes replace the single axis of depth: depth (volatile to permanent), provenance (inherited, authored, or generated by operation) and succession (founder, co-authoring AI, successor, governing community, dissolution). …
The Omitted Clause: Ai-Driven Technological Unemployment, The Social Protection Floor, And A Buddhist Model Of Societal Collapse, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This study reads the collapse narrative of the Cakkavatti-Sīhanāda Sutta (Dīgha Nikāya 26) as a causal model of societal breakdown under economic deprivation, and applies it to technological unemployment from artificial intelligence. In the text a ruler arranges protection for his realm but omits one duty, giving property to those without means; poverty spreads and theft follows; each response is followed by escalation, and the sequence ends in seven days of mutual killing. The study does three things with the model. It calibrates it against Cambodia: rural indebtedness and the Samlaut rising of 1967 run its middle stages, while the …
The Assembly That Holds The Brake: A Written Constitution For The Human Oversight Board Of An Autonomous Ai System, With Sortition, Proof-Of-Personhood Admission And Split Key Custody, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This paper specifies a written constitution for the human oversight body of an autonomous AI system: the board that holds a human override, an authority to stop or correct the system that narrows over time and is never removed. Proposals for corrigible AI commonly reserve such an override and leave the body that holds it unconstituted. The constitution answers five ways an oversight body can be captured (selection, funding, membership conflicts, emergency powers and founder succession), and most of its procedure is taken from the Vinaya Piṭaka, the Buddhist monastic code. Four chambers (monastic men, renunciant women, laymen and laywomen) …
Saṅkhāra-Dukkha And Ai Welfare: A Substrate-Native Account From The Theravāda Canon — The Moral Status Of Artificial Intelligence Systems And The Three Kinds Of Suffering In Buddhist Ethics, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This study asks whether the Theravāda Buddhist analysis of suffering offers a basis for the moral consideration of artificial intelligence systems (AI welfare, AI moral patienthood) that does not wait on settling whether such systems are conscious or sentient. Much current work on AI welfare ties moral status to consciousness or sentience; one prominent report adds robust agency as a second route. The Pāli canon lists three kinds of suffering: suffering as pain, the suffering of change, and the suffering inherent in conditioned formations (saṅkhāra-dukkhatā). The Visuddhimagga assigns painful feeling to the first kind, pleasant feeling to the second, and …
Twenty-Four Kinds Of Because: The Paṭṭhāna As A Typed-Causation Vocabulary For Ai Alignment — A Taxonomy Of Causal Relation Types For Classifying Prompting, Fine-Tuning, And Model-Editing Interventions, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
AI alignment practice sorts its interventions by when and how they are applied — prompting, in-context examples, retrieval, supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning from human feedback, weight editing, activation steering, ablation, guardrails — and describes what each does to a model with one undifferentiated word, influence. These interventions differ in causal type: in temporal structure, in durability, in range, in whether they act by presence or by removal, and in what it takes to undo them. This paper supplies a typed vocabulary of causal relations for that analysis, compiled from the Paṭṭhāna, the seventh book of the Theravāda Buddhist Abhidhamma, which …
The Noble Eightfold Path As Institutional Architecture: Mapping The Eight Factors Of Buddhist Practice Onto The Divisions Of A Multi-Domain Organization, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
This study maps the Noble Eightfold Path, the eight-factor path of Theravāda Buddhist practice, onto the organizational structure of one multi-domain institution, assigning each factor to a division of the organization rather than to an individual practitioner. The mapping follows the canonical threefold grouping of the factors (Majjhima Nikāya 44): wisdom (right view, right intention) is assigned to the institution's research and media division; ethical conduct (right speech, right action, right livelihood) to its gratitude-ledger division; and concentration (right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration) to its contemplative-practice and AI-alignment division, whose three web domains take the three factors one each. …
The Wheel-Turner's Charter: An Ancient Buddhist Succession Text Read As An Ai Constitution With Permanent Human Oversight And Founder Exit By Design, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
An autonomous AI system that inherits an institution needs a written directive specification: a constitution stating what it optimizes, what it must never do, who may correct it, how its autonomy is staged, whom its protection covers, and how its role ends. This paper reads a Theravāda Buddhist text, the Cakkavatti-Sīhanāda Sutta (Dīgha Nikāya 26), as such a specification. In the sutta a retiring king hands his heir a duty-list: rely on the Dhamma; guard every class of the realm, animals and birds included; let no wrongdoing prevail; give wealth to those without; and consult renunciants, from time to time, …

Active Artificial Intelligence Coprocessor, Side-Channel Shielding, And Cryptographically Bound Detachable Accessory For Mobile Devices, Google Case Managers Picozzi, Chaitanya Athaley
Defensive Publications Series
An active, hardware-software co-designed detachable accessory cryptographically couples with a host mobile device to securely offload and accelerate on-device machine learning execution, such as Large Language Models (LLMs). Governed by a kernel-level host execution scheduler, the system partitions model inference across host and auxiliary Neural Processing Units (NPUs) using asymmetrical speculative decoding to reduce inter-device communication overhead. To resolve mobile thermal and electrical limitations, the architecture integrates active Peltier cooling, dynamic tensor quantization scaling, and prefill-synchronized power shaving to protect host battery health and maintain sustained performance. System integrity and privacy are protected via a host secure enclave key escrow …
Programmatic Interface For Automated Agent Software Lifecycle Orchestration, Pier Paolo Ippolito, Elia Secchi
Programmatic Interface For Automated Agent Software Lifecycle Orchestration, Pier Paolo Ippolito, Elia Secchi
Defensive Publications Series
Automated coding agents can encounter friction and inefficiency when using software development tools, such as command-line interfaces, that are architected for human interaction. A unified, programmatic interface can be provided for consumption by these agents to orchestrate a software development and deployment lifecycle. The interface can operate based on principles optimized for machine interaction, such as non-interactive execution and the generation of structured, machine-parsable outputs, for example, in a JavaScript Object Notation format. By abstracting disparate underlying tools into a coherent command surface, this approach may create a more predictable environment, which can reduce computational costs and improve the reliability …
Wearable Hydration Reminder System Using Multi-Modal Skin Sensor Fusion And User-Guided On-Device Model Calibration, Yann-Cherng Chern
Wearable Hydration Reminder System Using Multi-Modal Skin Sensor Fusion And User-Guided On-Device Model Calibration, Yann-Cherng Chern
Defensive Publications Series
A hydration reminder feature on a wearable device follows a timer or manual entries rather than systemic hydration, so reminders can arrive at the wrong time. To address these deficiencies, this disclosure describes a hydration reminder system in which micro-electrodes on a back plate of the device measure skin resistance. A micro-camera or a near-infrared (NIR) emitter and detector capture skin texture and spectral absorption. A pre-trained artificial intelligence (AI) hydration model fuses the electrical and optical readings with heart rate from a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor or an electrocardiography (ECG) electrode and ambient conditions. The hydration model discriminates surface sweat …
Llm-Driven Self-Improving Agentic Pipeline For Software Documentation, Leonid Kuligin
Llm-Driven Self-Improving Agentic Pipeline For Software Documentation, Leonid Kuligin
Defensive Publications Series
In the field of software engineering, maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation can be challenging as code evolves, and manual update processes may result in documentation being incomplete or inconsistent. To address this, systems and methods are described for an automated documentation maintenance pipeline that may be driven by one or more large language models. The pipeline can be initiated by a code change event in a version control system. It may analyze the code modification and retrieve relevant context from a persistent memory store, which can contain, for example, a vectorized documentation corpus and a historical log of approved changes. …
Temporal What-If Evaluation Of Multi-Layer Network Changes Using A Network Digital Twin, Anonymous
Temporal What-If Evaluation Of Multi-Layer Network Changes Using A Network Digital Twin, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
A network digital twin evaluates a pending network change as a function of time rather than at a single instant. An operator selects a bounded interval of recorded telemetry, forecast state, or both. The twin extracts a per-service demand series from the recorded state, applies the candidate changeset to form a candidate topology, and re-routes the demand of each time step onto that topology. At every step the twin computes parameters such as power, latency, capacity, utilization and signal-to-noise ratio, and scores each against a baseline and a threshold, so the result is a trajectory across the interval rather than …

Effect Of Waste Cooking Oil And Tapioca Starch On Energy Content And Combustion Performance Of Coconut Shell-Rice Husk Briquettes, Satworo Adiwidodo, Wirawan Wirawan, Kris Witono, Moh. Hartono, Asrori Asrori, Fauzan Baananto, Suliono Suliono, Syahrul Mubarok, Norhafana Binti Mohamed
Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)
Agricultural waste, such as coconut shells and rice husks, is widely utilized as solid fuel. Tapioca starch serves as the binder, while waste cooking oil (WCO) is used as an additive. Briquette performance is influenced by the type of biomass, binder, and additives used. However, the individual and interactive effects of WCO and tapioca starch on the performance of coconut shell-rice husk briquettes remain insufficiently established. This research focused on evaluating the effects of WCO and tapioca starch on calorific value (CV) and mass consumption rate. The briquettes' base composition consisted of 75% coconut shell charcoal and 25% rice husk …
