The development of the tracked amphibian in the years immediately preceding World War II made the island-hopping campaigns of the Pacific War feasible. However, the development of guided missiles, tactical nuclear weapons, and mechanized divisions has made the traditional tactics of amphibious operations increasingly vulnerable.

This article is primarily a case study of the Nuremberg Trials Project at the Harvard Law School Library in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It begins with an historical note about the war crimes trials and their documentary record, including the fate of the several tons of trial documents that were distributed in 1949. The second part of the article is a description of the Harvard Law School Nuremberg project, including its history, goals, logistical considerations, digitization process and challenges, and resulting impact. Perhaps the most important change in the overall equation of Soviet strategy that has taken place is the result of apparent improvement in Soviet military capabilities over the past 5 years. Thus, while Moscow's strategy in the past has been largely defense-except in terms of propaganda, subversion, and political warfare is likely that her newly acquired global mobility may tempt her to engage in some overseas military adventures. I would anticipate, unhappily, that we are going to have more problems with the Soviets in the seventies than we did with them in the fifties and sixties.

In May of 2008, Nepal’s 240-year-old monarchy was legally dissolved. In the wake of this dissolution, the new interim government sought to replace royal institutions, procedures, and ceremonies with new, parallel processes. One unexpected royal legacy that politicians needed to resolve was that of the former royal animals that had been connected to the position of the King. The king of Nepal and palace institutions had been responsible for the welfare of a range of animals: private royal horses, a palace dairy herd, elephants in Chitwan, and an aviary of pheasants. This study examines the building and rethinking of German propaganda institutions during World War I. The goal of this dissertation is to illustrate the evolution of German government ideas on propaganda between 1914-1918.

During the war, German military leaders, politicians, and diplomats had ambitions to change, reform and modernize approaches to media governance. They were losing the battle of ideas, they realized early on. And so German officials were desperate to make propaganda fit into the structure of government; they tried to use new media technologies to be more persuasive. In the new War College curriculum instituted in September 1972, "tactics" was one of the three disciplines taught in the new curricula of both the senior and junior courses. The rationale for studying strategy and management at the War College seemed self-evident, but why tactics? We had come to believe that tactics was a specialized subject which belonged in the domain of functional warfare schools. Tactics is taught in the Fleet ASW School, Air Training Command, Submarine School, and Fleet Anti-Air Warfare School. Yet tactics had virtually disappeared as a subject of study at the Naval War College.

Observers of military affairs will have noted a changed naval lexicon over the past several years. To those accustomed to phrases such as "sea power," "command of the seas," "commerce warfare," and "amphibious warfare," the new terms, "Strategic Deterrence," "Sea Control," "Presence" may seem to be just a new jargon. After the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, returning veterans battle a severe form of moral trauma that is recently recognized by psychologists and analysts as “moral injury”. This moral and psychological wound has a deep impact on these veterans who return home emotionally wrecked, changed and in need for urgent care, emotional support and medical intervention. The term “moral injury” has social, emotional and psychological effects on returning veterans, and it has its distinct qualities from PTSD. Nicolás’s project began with realizing that Ecology and Indigenous/Settler Colonial Studies used the same language but not the same frameworks to discuss concepts of invasion ecology and human colonization. His project aimed to synthesize his majors in Biology and Sociology and to cross-pollinate their methodologies and frameworks. His persistent and varied research, deep engagement with sources, and consultation with faculty and peers resulted in thoughtful and original research.
