Interactions between species and their environment play a key role in the evolution of diverse communities, and numerous studies have emphasized that interactions among microbes and among trophic levels play an important role in maintaining microbial diversity and ecosystem functioning. In this study, we investigate how two of these types of interactions, public goods cooperation through the production of iron scavenging siderophores and predation by the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum, mediate competition between two strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens that were co-isolated from D. discoideum. We find that although we are able to generally predict the competitive outcomes between strains based …

Cyber breaches continue at an alarming pace with new vulnerability warnings an almost daily occurrence. Discovery of the industrial virus Stuxnet during 2010 introduced a global threat of malware focused toward disruption of industrial control devices. By the year 2020, it is estimated that over 30 billion Internet of Things (IoT) devices will exist. The IoT global market spend is estimated to grow from $591.7 billion in 2014 to $1.3 trillion in 2019 with a compound annual growth rate of 17%. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the initial development of the teaching on the Holy Spirit in the life of Alexander Campbell, founder of the movement named the Disciples of Christ. Campbell’s pneumatology must be placed within the context of American history in the nineteenth century. Beginning with the influence of Cane Ridge and Millennialism on his theology, his pneumatology led to an insipid work of the Spirit through the denomination’s history. In conflict-prone and/or post-conflict environments, the action of violent non-state actors (VNSAs) brings up many security concerns and issues since it wedges in the grey zones of state authority. Indeed, violent non-state actors emerge and function countering the state: in the opposition to state authority they find their raison d’etre, since most of them challenge the legitimacy and the integrity of the state itself. A typology of violent non-state actors through the lines of authority over population or authority over territory can help us explain where the “lost spaces” of state sovereignty are. Experimental Verification Of A6 Magnetron With Permanent Magnet, Andrew J. Sandoval

A compact A6 relativistic magnetron with diffraction output using a transparent cathode, simple mode-converter, and a permanent magnet were simulated and tested at the University of New Mexico (UNM) for the Office of Naval Research. The standard compact MDO with a simple mode converter and transparent cathode radiates a TE11 mode axially through a cylindrical horn antenna. The magnetic field, essential for magnetron operation, is provided by a Neodymium Iron Boron (NeFeB) GradeN40M rare earth magnet. The permanent magnet eliminates the need for a pulsed magnet and accompanying circuit, significantly reducing the size of the system. A permanent magnetic field …

The United States has the 31^st highest rate of gun violence in the world. During 2013, 33,636 people died of gunshot wounds in the United States. Of these, 21,175 were suicides. Another 502 were victims of mass shootings. Most of the remainder were single homicides. These statistics spark polarizing opinions regarding the Second Amendment. This thesis will focus on the gun culture that has manifested in the United States and how it’s affected the contemporary gun debate. Naval War College Review

To approach teh sea side of maneuver warfare, one ought first to understand its nature and content in general. Contemporary American military reformers seem to claim that maneuver warfare is everything good: outwitting the enemy, creating and exploiting an information advantage, moving faster and more adroitly, and shooting more precisely and effectively. In the rhetoric, maneuver warfare is "rapid, violent, coordinated attack." But who would espouse the opposite, a "slow, feeble, disorganized attack"? If maneuver warfare is nothing more than fighting intelligently, then its antithesis is "stupid" warfare.
