Konsep Keadilan Menurut Filsafat Hukum Islam Dalam Perkawinan Poligami, Wirdyaningsih - Sep 2018

Konsep Keadilan Menurut Filsafat Hukum Islam Dalam Perkawinan Poligami, Wirdyaningsih -

Jurnal Hukum & Pembangunan

Islamic marriages allow polygamy on the condition that the husband can do justice. This fair concept is interesting to study because it is not easy to measure fairness in an action. By going through juridical analysis studies and using literature research, the authors examine two main issues, namely the philosophy of polygamy marriage according to Islamic law and how the concept of justice in polygamy is applied according to the philosophy of Islamic law. There are several conditions that must be met for men who will do polygamy. One of the requirements mentioned in the Qur'an is that it can …

For this paper, we will focus on the narrative of androgyny created through the representations within these posters, looking specifically at the fluidity of gender created by the shifting of professions, and the depictions of men and women within …

1a3: Population, The Lessons Of War, And The Promise Of Peace, Kathleen Tobin Sep 2018

1a3: Population, The Lessons Of War, And The Promise Of Peace, Kathleen Tobin

Proceedings of Armistice & Aftermath: A World War I Symposium

In the last two decades of the nineteenth century, new teachings on Malthusianism emerged. These were founded on the Essays on Population (1798-1826) by Thomas Malthus, which warned that while population grew geometrically the earth’s resources grew only arithmetically. As a result, overpopulation was inevitable and could be checked only by famine, disease, or war. He did not advocate birth control, but by 1900 many others did. Between 1900 and 1914, neo-Malthusians and birth control activists joined efforts and much of their work reacted on growing militarism in Western Europe and the United States. They continued to write during the …

Proceedings of Armistice & Aftermath: A World War I Symposium

On 1 July 1918, US Army PFC Mario Ruconich of 2nd Division, 23rd Infantry Regiment, Company L was killed by German machine gun fire near the village of Vaux, France. He had volunteered for the US Army in January 1917, mustering at the Columbus Barracks in Ohio, where he listed his home as Michigan. His military service record listed his nationality as “Austrian.” PFC Ruconich’s three older brothers also died, or were POWs. Yet they fought for the Central Powers as loyal Austrians on the Italian and Russian Fronts. The Ruconich family spoke Istriot (an Italian dialect) and …

The Role Of Cadm1 In Viral-Mediated Oncogenesis, Richard Anthony Hunte Sep 2018

The Role Of Cadm1 In Viral-Mediated Oncogenesis, Richard Anthony Hunte

Open Access Dissertations

Approximately 15% of human cancers worldwide, including leukemias and lymphomas, are caused by infection from oncogenic viruses, such as human T-cell lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1) and Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV). Oncogenes of these viruses, such as Tax of HTLV-1, and viral G-protein coupled receptor (vGPCR) and viral FLICE inhibitory protein (vFLIP) of KSHV, maintain persistent inflammation via activation of NF-kB, a family of transcription factors. NF-kB is normally transiently activated in response to TNF, IL-1, and bacteria or viral infections. However, under certain pathologic conditions, such as inflammation or tumorigenesis, it is chronically activated. Here we show host factor Cell …

The Effect Of Ingredient-Specific Calorie Information On Calories Ordered, Christopher R. Gustafson, Eliana Zeballos Sep 2018

The Effect Of Ingredient-Specific Calorie Information On Calories Ordered, Christopher R. Gustafson, Eliana Zeballos

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

Providing calorie labeling is a widely used strategy to combat obesity. However, there is little evidence that the availability of calorie information at food-away-from-home establishments has an effect on food choices. Listing calorie information for each ingredient, though, may allow customers to avoid high-calorie items that add little to their enjoyment. Data from a natural experiment were used to compare total calories ordered before and after the provision of per-ingredient versus for build-your-own sandwiches, and per-sandwich for pre-defined sandwiches, at a supermarket sandwich counter. Sandwich order slips from a Lincoln, Neb. supermarket were collected from December 15, 2016 to February …

Antibiotics From Deep-Sea Microorganisms: Current Discoveries And Perspectives, Emiliana Tortorella, Pietro Tedesco, Esposito F Palma, Grant Garren January, Renato Fani, Marcel Jaspars, Pascale D De

School of Biomedical Sciences

The increasing emergence of new forms of multidrug resistance among human pathogenic bacteria, coupled with the consequent increase of infectious diseases, urgently requires the discovery and development of novel antimicrobial drugs with new modes of action. Most of the antibiotics currently available on the market were obtained from terrestrial organisms or derived semisynthetically from fermentation products. The isolation of microorganisms from previously unexplored habitats may lead to the discovery of lead structures with antibiotic activity. The deep-sea environment is a unique habitat, and deep-sea microorganisms, because of their adaptation to this extreme environment, have the potential to produce novel secondary …

We are pleased to bring together many of the papers presented at the Michigan Tech World War I symposium, Armistice & Aftermath. They provide various examples of how WWI affected the heartland, both during and after the war – a topic often missed in general histories, at least in the United States. American stories of WWI are relatively scarce in relation to general American military history, where the Civil War and WWII dominate, and in relation to WWI histories, which are dominated by the …

Informed Learning And The Acrl Framework: What Faculty Teach And How Students Learn., Lorna M. Dawes Sep 2018

Informed Learning And The Acrl Framework: What Faculty Teach And How Students Learn., Lorna M. Dawes

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

Faculty are increasingly implementing pedagogies that create cultures of inquiry in their classes and teach information use as a part of their discipline subject content. Informed Learning is a pedagogy that focuses on “learning subject content through engaging with academic or professional information practices” (Bruce et al, 2010) and is the most effective way of teaching information literacy. Evidence gathered via interviews with 24 teaching faculty reveal how information literacy is a part of the teaching and learning that occurs serendipitously and intentionally in first-year courses. The faculty describe five qualitatively different ways that students experience information use throughout their …

Identification Of Microbiota Associated With The Ectosymbiotic Community Structure Of The Appalachian Brook Crayfish (Cambarus Bartonii), Matthew M. Cooke 6268927, Luke T. Fischer, Taylor Griffin, Sherrie Jeffers

Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship

Microbes play a significant role in ecosystems, effecting the vital functions of other organisms, interspecies relationships, and population sizes. Based upon previous research (Skelton et al., 2016), it has been hypothesized that crayfish symbionts (branchiobdellidans) play a significant role in regulating the amount of microbiota associated with the host. A growing body of knowledge is known regarding both the condition of gill fouling and the annelid worm’s symbiotic relationship with the crayfish (Skelton et al., 2016; Skelton et al., 2016). However, there is little to no evidence available concerning the bacteria’s role in the process (Skelton et al., 2016). Microbial …

Role Of Gtpase Mtg1 In Mitochondrial Translation And Heart Physiology, Hyun-Jung Kim Sep 2018

Role Of Gtpase Mtg1 In Mitochondrial Translation And Heart Physiology, Hyun-Jung Kim

Open Access Dissertations

Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) synthesize thirteen proteins, essential components of the oxidative phosphorylation system. They are linked to mitochondrial disorders, often involving cardiomyopathy. Mitoribosome biogenesis is assisted by multiple cofactors whose specific functions remain largely uncharacterized. Here, we examined the role of human MTG1, a conserved ribosome assembly GTPase. MTG1-silencing in human cardiomyocytes and developing zebrafish revealed early cardiovascular lesions. A combination of gene-editing and biochemical approaches using HEK293T cells demonstrated that MTG1 binds to the large subunit (mtLSU) 16S rRNA to facilitate incorporation of late assembly proteins. Furthermore, MTG1 interacts with mtLSU uL19 protein and mtSSU mS27, a putative …

Implementation Of A Sustainable Peer Mentor Program In Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (Srnas)”, Kristin Cox

Doctoral Projects

Evidence has shown that Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist’s (SRNAs) stress is perceived as above average and is correlated with substandard patient care during clinical courses (Chipas et al., 2012). Some studies have indicated SRNAs experience low self-efficacy during clinical, which could lead to difficulty in thinking clearly or responding to clinical situations (Imus, Burns, & Weglarz, 2017). Peer mentoring has shown to result in stress reduction and improvement in self-efficacy in students (Barker et al., 2012; Giordana & Wedin, 2010). Despite the current evidence, a nurse anesthesia program in the southeastern United States did not have an organized peer mentor …

Decreasing Costs In The Operating Room By Utilizing The Best Laryngoscope For Direct Laryngoscopy, Summer Stone

Doctoral Projects

Rising healthcare costs continue to be a focus of study in the medical and nursing fields in an attempt to reflect the need for optimal patient care with minimal associated expense and elimination of extraneous expense. Examples of extraneous expenses include wasted or incorrect supplies or equipment, nosocomial infections, staffing problems, and length of stay and readmissions (Olsen, Saunders, Yong, National Academic Press, & Institute of Medicine, 2010). One under-studied healthcare expense is the use of disposable versus reusable laryngoscopes. For this project, conduction of a cost-minimization analysis was performed comparing costs related to disposable and reusable laryngoscopes used in …

Short-Tailed Mice With A Long Fossil Record: The Genus Leggadina (Rodentia: Muridae) From The Quaternary Of Queensland, Australia, Jonathan Cramb, Gilbert J. Price, Scott A. Hocknull

KIP Articles

The genus Leggadina (colloquially known as ‘short-tailed mice’) is a common component of Quaternary faunas of northeastern Australia. They represent a member of the Australian old endemic murid radiation that arrived on the continent sometime during the late Cenozoic. Here we describe two new species of extinct Leggadina from Quaternary cave deposits as well as additional material of the extinct Leggadina macrodonta. Leggadina irvini sp. nov. recovered from Middle-Upper (late) Pleistocene cave deposits near Chillagoe, northeastern Queensland, is the biggest member of the genus, being substantially larger than any other species so far described. Leggadina webbi sp. nov. from Middle …

Lithologic Controls On Focused Erosion And Intraplate Earthquakes In The Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone, Sean F. Gallen, J. Ryan Thigpen Sep 2018

Lithologic Controls On Focused Erosion And Intraplate Earthquakes In The Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone, Sean F. Gallen, J. Ryan Thigpen

Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Publications

We present a new geomorphic model for the intraplate eastern Tennessee seismic zone (ETSZ). Previous studies document that the Upper Tennessee drainage basin is in a transient state of adjustment to ~150 m of base level fall that occurred in the Late Miocene. Using quantitative geomorphology, we demonstrate that base level fall resulted in the erosion of ~3,500 km3 of highly erodibility rock in an ~70 km wide by ~350‐km‐long corridor in the Paleozoic fold‐thrust belt above the ETSZ. Models of modern incision rates show a NE‐SW trending swath of elevated erosion ~30 km southeast of the center of …
