Effects Of Aging On The Myelination Of The Optic Nerve In Rats, Ahmed Abdelzaher Ahmed Abdellatif
Faculty Journal Articles
Aim of the study: Cognitive decline due to aging is most probably the result of changes in the white matter in the central nervous system (CNS) and/or demyelination. Material and methods: We used electron microscopic analysis of the morphological changes in aging rats’ optic nerves as an easily accessible part of the CNS. Results: Several age changes were observed in aging rats (36 months) vs. young adult rats (6 months), namely degeneration of axons, decreased packing density and morphological alterations of myelination, including the ballooning of some myelin sheaths, separation of myelin lamellae and degenerative changes in the oligodendrocytes population. …

Patients afflicted with ulcerative colitis (UC) are at increased risk of colorectal cancer. While its causes are not fully understood, UC is associated with defects in colonic epithelial barriers that sustain inflammation of the colon mucosa caused by recruitment of lymphocytes and neutrophils into the lamina propria. Based on genetic evidence that attenuation of the bridging integrator 1 (Bin1) gene can limit UC pathogenicity in animals, we have explored Bin1 targeting as a therapeutic option. Early feasibility studies in the dextran sodium sulfate mouse model of experimental colitis showed that administration of a cell-penetrating Bin1 monoclonal antibody (Bin1 mAb 99D) …

How Race And Racism Empower A School's Curriculum, Sunni Ali
How Race And Racism Empower A School's Curriculum, Sunni Ali
Journal of Research Initiatives
Teaching students about race and racism are so multi-faceted and sophisticated, yet it remains the most crucial conversation and lesson to have with young people to empower them. One of the useful ways Americans can attempt to unravel and transform this complicated legacy is to make it a part of a school’s curriculum. Allowing race and racism to remain a hidden-aspect of a school’s curriculum reinforces its trivialization and dysfunction.
Indeed, having constructed, well-thought-out lessons about race and racism “myth-bust” any attempts for future Americans to continually embrace xenophobia and genetic inferiority. In recent years, the institution of education and …
A Hard-Real-Time Juggling Simulator To Shape Human Sensitivity To Cues And Coordination Of Muscles, Robert W. Nickl
A Hard-Real-Time Juggling Simulator To Shape Human Sensitivity To Cues And Coordination Of Muscles, Robert W. Nickl
Link Foundation Modeling, Simulation and Training Fellowship Reports
Many virtual reality tasks incorporate auditory and haptic (or touch) feedback, in addition to visual displays of spatial information. Non-visual feedback modalities such as the former increase realism; but they may have an ancillary benefit of increasing human motor performance and learning. One task for which this has been exhibited is paddle juggling, or vertically bouncing a ball off of a rigid elastic planar surface. For the objective of hitting the ball toward a target height, visual feedback is sufficient. Yet, previous studies have shown that non-visual feedback----specifically haptic---both is sufficient in the absence of vision to maintain stable ball …
The Development Of A Novel Motion Cuing Algorithm For Flight Training Simulators Employing Objective Metrics For Evaluation, Ahmad Qasim Momani
The Development Of A Novel Motion Cuing Algorithm For Flight Training Simulators Employing Objective Metrics For Evaluation, Ahmad Qasim Momani
Link Foundation Modeling, Simulation and Training Fellowship Reports
The value of a dynamic motion platform to the flight simulator is a controversial issue within the flight training community. The motion of the flight simulator platform has been shown to affect pilot performance and behavior. Moreover, its ability to provide the operator with the appropriate motion cues is essential for pilot training or research. Unwanted cues can cause the operator to develop inappropriate control behavior strategies that are not useful or might be dangerous in real flight. Performance studies show that the operator’s performance is enhanced when introducing motion which might indicate that the operator experiences a sensation closer …

As part of this, Thailand’s seafood processing industry is now ranked fourth globally, contributing over US$6.5 billion to the economy. The researchers, therefore, set out to investigate the impact of consumers’ attitudes, product quality, value, branding, and product identity on five nationally recognized canned seafood product brands. Using systematic random sampling, 400 questionnaires were collected from consumers shopping at five Bangkok metropolitan area supermarkets. A confirmatory factor analysis was first used, followed by structural equation modeling to …
Tensions Underlying The Indian Child Welfare Act: Tribal Jurisdiction Over Traditional State Court Family Law Matters, Elizabeth Maclachlan
Tensions Underlying The Indian Child Welfare Act: Tribal Jurisdiction Over Traditional State Court Family Law Matters, Elizabeth Maclachlan
BYU Law Review
State courts have historically exercised jurisdiction over family law cases. However, under the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), Indian child custody and adoption cases have been taken out of state jurisdiction and placed with Indian tribal governments. State courts have pushed back against proper deference to ICWA and violate ICWA by misapplying its provisions and refusing to transfer custody and adoption cases to tribal courts. This Note analyzes the state-tribal tensions surrounding ICWA and argues that the primary reason for the lack of full state acceptance of ICWA is that, historically, states have had nearly total jurisdiction over family law …
