Engendered Relations In The Global South, Jose Jowel Canuday
Engendered Relations In The Global South, Jose Jowel Canuday
Social Transformations Journal of the Global South
Excerpt: Gender as a framework of understanding social relations represents multiple fields of struggles that bring into question the discourse of sexual difference as a natural condition. One possible way of viewing gender is by looking at it as a discursive arena of contestation animating the social landscape of the global south. In this context, sexual relations are at once implicated by hierarchies of power underpinning precolonial structures of belonging, colonial hegemony, and postcolonial imaginations. Such hierarchies and realms of power become driving forces that produce and reproduce the socio-political agents that engender the assumptions of men and women as …

The Use Of Geographic Information Systems For Display Of University Of Calabar Use Statistics And Functional Areas., Obia Inyang
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
ABSTRACT.
The purpose of this study is to present University of Calabar statistics and functional areas using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The process of using a GIS is faceted and involves different methods of presentation. Being that University of Calabar Library has not yet been geo-mapped, author traced in-use statistics in the different divisions for a 3-years period especially to show that the library, in whatever format is useful for Information services. The summed in –use statistics gave a total data for study in all the functional areas. Analysis was presented using three different types of GIS charts------ Lines with …
The Role Of Mites In The Construction And Weathering Of Siliceous Biospeleothems, María José López-Galindo
The Role Of Mites In The Construction And Weathering Of Siliceous Biospeleothems, María José López-Galindo
International Journal of Speleology
Acarines are well-documented as formative elements in the biocenosis of soils. However, their role in the construction and weathering of siliceous speleothems has received very little attention in previous research. The present study describes different groups of cavities (nesting/molting sites) excavated by these organisms in the surface of siliceous speleothems that are deposited in the fissures between various granite boulders in Southern Spain. There is evidence that there are immature stages that would survive the heat and drought of summer in the form of small larvae, or euedaphic nymphs, in the soil. This study provides the first description of how …
Tapestry Of Non-Equilibrium Phenomenon In Colloidal Domain: From Directed Assembly To Emergent Behavior, Bhuvnesh Bharti
Tapestry Of Non-Equilibrium Phenomenon In Colloidal Domain: From Directed Assembly To Emergent Behavior, Bhuvnesh Bharti
Amgen Seminar Series in Chemical Engineering
The multiscale self-assembly of atoms, molecules, and particles is the origin of all physical mesoscopic matter. The spatial organization, symmetry, and physical properties of the assembled structures are determined by thermodynamic characteristics of their building blocks. Colloidal particles are emerging as models for understanding governing principles of directed-assembly and non-equilibrium response of advanced materials. Here, I will present the concept of using internal and external field driven interactions to direct the assembly and spatial migration of colloids. First, I will present the principle of using magnetostatic interactions to direct surface patterning using sessile drop drying. In droplets of magnetite nanoparticles, …

Extrusion-Based Direct Write Of Functional Materials From Electronics To Magnetics, Alan Shen
Extrusion-Based Direct Write Of Functional Materials From Electronics To Magnetics, Alan Shen
Doctoral Dissertations
New micro- and nanoscale fabrication methods are of vital importance to drive scientific and technological advances in electronics, materials science, physics and biology areas. Direct ink writing (DW) describes a group of mask-less and contactless additive manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, processes that involve dispensing inks, typically particle suspensions, through a deposition nozzle to create 2D or 3D material patterns with desired architecture and composition on a computer-controlled movable stage. Much of the functional material printing and electronics area remains underdeveloped for this new technology. There is a need to understand and establish the advantages and shortcomings of extrusion-based DW …

Clinical and Translational Science Institute
Background
Women with eating disorders are more likely to negatively react to finding out they are pregnant, although this difference in attitudes between women with eating disorders and controls disappears at 18-weeks’ gestation. Those with anorexia also are twice as likely to have an unplanned pregnancy and those with bulimia have a 30-fold increased chance compared with healthy controls. Therefore, due to these considerations, pregnancy and the transition to motherhood can be an extremely challenging time for these women both psychologically and physically. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to understand the intersection between eating disorders and pregnancy …

Arms And The Man: Strategic Trade Control Challenges Of 3d Printing, Arjun Banerjee
Arms And The Man: Strategic Trade Control Challenges Of 3d Printing, Arjun Banerjee
International Journal of Nuclear Security
3D printing is on the verge of confronting Customs and other security agencies with a whole new set of mind-boggling problems. With the tremendous reach of the Internet worldwide, virtual blueprints to weapon parts, components and accessories of drones, narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances, all strategic trade items, as well as other restricted items such as pornographic material, can be proliferated and printed out swiftly by any individual or organization with access to a 3D printer. Intellectual Property Rights are also endangered by these machines. Technology is forever outpacing fast antiquating legal institutions, and security systems, which require revamping to …

In Ghana, iodine deficiency was first reported in 1994 among 33% of the population. A nationwide Universal Salt Iodization (USI) program plus other complementary interventions were subsequently implemented as a response. Our paper reviews the current risks of excess iodine status in Ghana and identifies policy and research gaps. A mixed methods review of 12 policies and institutional reports and 13 peer‐reviewed articles was complemented with consultations with 23 key informants (salt producers and distributors, food processors, regulatory agency officials, and healthcare providers) purposively sampled between May and August 2017. The findings show a strong policy environment indicated by regulations …
Constraints, Tradeoffs, And Opportunities For Conservation In Contemporary Landscapes, Marjorie R. Liberati
Constraints, Tradeoffs, And Opportunities For Conservation In Contemporary Landscapes, Marjorie R. Liberati
Doctoral Dissertations
The challenges of achieving conservation goals increase as more people and competing land-uses are present on landscapes. In these landscapes, tradeoffs are inevitable, and people and nature cannot be considered independently. Instead, conservation planning needs to accommodate the complexities, challenges, and synergies within social-ecological systems. Therefore, the overall goal of my research was to develop and apply planning frameworks and tools to improve conservation decision making and bridge implementation gaps in multi-objective landscapes. To achieve this goal, multiple avenues of research were pursued including 1) outlining a conservation framework that considered suites of spatially- and implementation-specific objectives; 2) exploring protected …

The proper role of research skills and training to conduct research in professional psychology education has been controversial throughout the history of the field. An extensive effort was undertaken recently to address that issue and identify ways the field might move forward in a more unified manner. In 2015, the American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Educational Affairs convened a task force to address one of the recommendations made by the Health Service Psychology Education Collaborative in 2013. That recommendation stated that the education and training of health service psychologists (HSPs) include an integrative approach to science and practice that …
