Exploring The Role Of Rna Polymerase Iii Complex Assembly On Ribosomal Dna Silencing In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Kyle Thomas Kern

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The yeast rDNA region is host to a number of transcriptional regulatory elements, which work in conjunction to generate essential RNA subunits of ribosomes, as well as protecting the region from DNA damage. The role of RNA polymerase III complex binding at the 5S gene on rDNA silencing in the NTS2 region was investigated, both by use of a TY1:MET15 reporter insert and a MET15 gene integration at an endogenous SphI site. It was discovered that Pol III complexes do have an effect on reporter expression in the NTS2 region, though the specific effect was different based on the method …

Oral Health Related Quality Of Life, Dental Care Utilization, And Serostatus Disclosure Among Hiv-Positive Women In The Women’S Interagency Hiv Study (Wihs) Cohort, Carrigan Parish

Open Access Dissertations

Persons living with HIV are more likely than HIV-negative individuals to experience oral health problems, yet are also more likely to have unmet dental care treatment needs. Dental needs among HIV-positive individuals can also be more severe and difficult to manage compared to the general population, often contributing to the onset of opportunistic oral infections. Furthermore, dental problems in patients with HIV can be associated with low CD4 counts and poor immune function. Due to the underutilization of dental services, oral health problems and symptoms, especially those that are related to HIV infection, remain prevalent in this population. Neglected dental …

The Convention on Biological Diversity(CBD) commits its 196 nation partiesto conserve biological diversity, useits components sustainably, and sharefairly and equitably the benefits fromthe utilization of genetic resources. Thelast of these objectives was further codifiedin the Convention’s Nagoya Protocol (NP),which came into effect in 2014. Althoughthese aspirations are laudable, the NP andresulting national ambitions on Access andBenefit Sharing (ABS) of genetic resourceshave generated several national regulatoryregimes fraught with unintended consequences(1). Anticipated benefits from thecommercial use of genetic resources, especiallythose that might flow to local or indigenouscommunities because of regulatedaccess to those resources, have largely beenexaggerated and not yet realized. Climate Change Impacts On Western Reservoir Operations: A Case Study Of Bull Run Watershed, Portland, Oregon, Nima Fayaz

Theses - ALL

Climate change has the potential to alter the quantity and timing of runoff, which may pose significant challenges for the reservoir management. This study evaluates the projected climate impact on the reservoir system of Portland, Oregon. Using sixteen climate models spanning four emission scenarios, the performance reservoir operating policies and their sensitivity to the choice of GCMs and time periods are assessed. Use of historical rule curves for reservoir operations results reduces forecast reliability for future periods. This general trend for decreasing forecast reliability for future periods is not sensitive to the choice of GCM. Regardless of the selected reservoir …
