A Normal Form For Words In The Temperley-Lieb Algebra And The Artin Braid Group On Three Strands, Jack Hartsell
A Normal Form For Words In The Temperley-Lieb Algebra And The Artin Braid Group On Three Strands, Jack Hartsell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The motivation for this thesis is the computer-assisted calculation of the Jones poly- nomial from braid words in the Artin braid group on three strands, denoted B3. The method used for calculation of the Jones polynomial is the original method that was created when the Jones polynomial was first discovered by Vaughan Jones in 1984. This method utilizes the Temperley-Lieb algebra, and in our case the Temperley-Lieb Algebra on three strands, denoted A3, thus generalizations about A3 that assist with the process of calculation are pursued.

"Mayon Is Not A Perfect Cone”: Power In The Communicative Constitution Of Space And Risk On Mayon Volcanic Hazard Maps From The Viewpoint Of The Permanent Danger Zone (Pdz) Residents In Camalig, Albay, Christine Jane M. Gonzalez
Undergraduate Theses
The residents of Mayon volcano‘s Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) have been labeled as danger zone locals since the establishment of authorities who constituted a volcanic hazard map indicating the six-kilometer boundary from Mayon‘s crater. Over the years, the government of Albay acted based on the messages written on the four official hazard maps created by PHIVOLCS during instances of volcanic unrest. Despite the mandates of the province to use the maps, there exist conflicts in the conceptions of Mayon‘s space and risks between the experts and the residents of the danger zone.
This qualitative study aims to analyze the power …

Flightfit: An Application Enabling Air Travelers To Do Stretches Onboard, Ninglin Jiang
Theses
Currently, with the development of economy and the improvement of people's living standards, more people would prefer traveling by air. However, sitting for extended periods of time on a long flight would be an uncomfortable joyless experience and it may have negative implications for health. A study from the World Health Organisation confirmed that the risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE) approximately doubles after travel lasting four hours or more. So carrying out some stretches frequently as well as standing up and moving around as often as possible under permitted conditions would help to improve blood circulation and relieve muscle …
Amelia: An Animated Short Film About Giving And Receiving Help, Emma Yun-Chieh Hsieh
Amelia: An Animated Short Film About Giving And Receiving Help, Emma Yun-Chieh Hsieh
Theses
Amelia is an animated short film that expresses a personal journey of finding the importance of the balance between giving and receiving. “Giving is better than taking” is a common concept people are taught since young age in Asian culture; however, if there is no common ground in giving and receiving the positive notion of helping others can become negative for the giver.
There are several elements in the film indicate that life is an infinite journey of self-improvement. Amelia starts and ends at the same place, with different quotes, while her mental state changes along with her energy. Sunrise …
Chinese Ornaments Of The Imperial Robe: A Modern Motif Design Interpretation, Xiaoya Shen
Chinese Ornaments Of The Imperial Robe: A Modern Motif Design Interpretation, Xiaoya Shen
Theses
“Twelve Ornaments” are a group of ancient Chinese symbols and designs that are considered highly auspicious. In ancient China, because they signified authority and power, they were employed in the decoration of textile fabrics, and were embroidered on vestments of state, such as the Imperial Robe. They are the patterns that could represent the essence of Chinese traditional national dress.
This thesis project is based on the analysis, research and summarization of this design history as well as the establishment of effective visual design solutions intended to transform the twelve ornaments into modern motif designs. The design will retain the …
Art Museums And Early Childhood: Enhanced Interactions For Young Audiences In Art Museums, Evgenia Tranevskaya
Art Museums And Early Childhood: Enhanced Interactions For Young Audiences In Art Museums, Evgenia Tranevskaya
Theses
Muse House is an engaging experience for young audiences in art museums.
This project was conceived as an appealing and creative way to attract families with little children to art museums and galleries, for the reason that these places are not parent’s first-choice of leisure time with their children. Children 3–6 years old tend to explore the environment using all their senses, but in art museums, there is hardly anything they can touch. The content in art museums is usually not meant for the young audiences, and children easily get bored and tired. If tangible objects and age-appropriate activities are …

Four colleagues--a faculty member, a digital services librarian, a research librarian, and a curator of Special Collections--take turns describing their role in creating an undergraduate student project around an eighteenth-century almanac that belonged to Marie-Antoinette. In recounting the steps taken, the collaborative process, the student research, and the analysis of the contents of the Trésor des Grâces almanac, we share the lessons learned for completing a digital exhibit over the course of one semester.

Trēfolio: Protecting Trees Through Emotional Connections And Greater Awareness, Surudhakeerthi Sivakumar
Theses
Trees are being burned, degraded, and logged at astonishing rates. 80% of the world’s forests are already destroyed. It is estimated that within 100 years there will be no rainforests left. Urbanization, Mining, Fires, Logging, and Agricultural activities are all to blame for this destruction (Vidal 2017).
The first step in solving this problem is to raise awareness. Each tree is unique, and every tree has an interesting story to tell. When people realize this and start building a personal connection with the trees around them, they will naturally develop a protective instinct towards the trees they like. The goal …

A Case For An Online Educational Administrator Practicum Experience, Texas Council Of Professors Of Educational Administration Compiled By Lloyd Goldsmith
School Leadership Review
The principal and superintendent practicum experiences have traditionally been entirely face-to-face (f2f) between university professors, interns and site mentors – typically a campus or district administrator (Figure 1). Advancements in technology combined with the exponential growth of online graduate programs give rise to additional incorporation of technology into the practicum experience.

Rover: A Virtual Reality Puzzle Game About Creating An Experience That Helps The Player Rediscover Something About Themselves, Like Dream And Family., Shengjie Liu
Theses
With the development of virtual reality technology, VR is currently replacing old systems and modifying practices and processes in many fields, such as automotive, healthcare, training and psychological therapies (Salanitri et al., 2018). Amongst these fields, the industry of games particularly enjoys an increasingly mature technique in virtual reality technology. It is in no small part because such technology provides an immersive experience during the games, and it in turn enhances players’ comprehension upon the affections incurred in the games. Encountered with such an emerging visual carrier, many products and programs await creation. Throughout this project, motion patterns and visual …
Understanding Culture Through Traditional Chinese Fairy Tales: A Study On The Effects Of Chinese Fairy Tale Characters On Audience Perception Of Culture, Bochuan Li
Theses
Classic of Mountains and Seas is probably one of the most ancient books about geography. The history of this book dates back to the Zhou Dynasty (1134 BC to 256 BC) or even earlier. Classic of Mountains and Seas is structured with 18 fascicles and has remained generally unaltered since the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368). This book is not a narrative; it details descriptions of locations in the mountains, seas, lands, and wilderness. The descriptions are usually about medicines, monsters, and geological features. Many of the descriptions are very mundane. Chapters follow the same pattern, and the whole book consists of …

The Socio-Cultural And Political Significance Of Coffeehouses And Coffee Culture During The Independence Processes Of Kosovo, Ajhan Bajmaku, Çınar Nartar
International Journal of Business and Technology
The coffee culture in the Balkans spread and developed as the Ottoman Empire began using the region as a base that opened into Europe. This region with great strategic significance draws attention not only because it functioned as a bridge between the East and the West but also because of cultural and political values in perspective of the process of changes and developments that have taken place throughout time. As an establishment the coffeehouse is a vital concept for society. Beside their fundamental functions, coffeehouses have gained additional functions over the course of history. These additional functions are directed by …

Signing Exact English; A Simultaneously Spoken And Signed Communication Option In Deaf Education, Kabian Rendel, Jill Bargones, Britnee Blake, Barbara Luetke, Deborah S. Stryker
Journal of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention
Current reviews of the literature continue to evidence that even with current assistive listening technology, many children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (D/HH) persist in demonstrating English language and literacy gaps compared to hearing peers (e.g., C. Mayer 2016; C. Mayer, & Trezek, 2018). For example, Geers, Tobey, Moog, and Brenner (2008) reported that “only about half” (p. 262) of children using cochlear implants (CIs) (and no sign to support their speech production) achieved age-appropriate abilities by third grade. Given the continually-reported variability of results (e.g., Harris, 2016; C. Mayer, & Trezek, 2018), an alternative is warranted. Signing Exact English …

Objects Of Politics, Objects Of Art: Three Studies On The Display Of American Political Prints, Ricardo Chavez
Objects Of Politics, Objects Of Art: Three Studies On The Display Of American Political Prints, Ricardo Chavez
Master's Theses
Fueled by the radical political thinking of the 1960s and beyond, people in the United States produced artistic responses in the form of political prints and posters for both documenting and actively galvanizing the popular movements of this era. This study analyzes the display of these prints and posters within an art-viewing context. It argues that, with characteristics of both objects of politics and objects of art, these works possess dynamic meaning that can be impacted by the institutional narratives of the locations in which they reside. Looking at three examples of political print exhibitions organized individually by the Museum …
