Ultraviolet Inkjet Ink: A Market And Audience Analysis For Kowa American, Haley Smith
Ultraviolet Inkjet Ink: A Market And Audience Analysis For Kowa American, Haley Smith
Senior Honors Projects
My report was commissioned to examine the market strategies and audience approaches implemented in the ultraviolet inkjet ink industry. My research juxtaposes the initiatives of leading ink investors with those of the monomer-producing corporation, Kowa American. My findings emphasize the discrepancies in competitive development between Kowa and similar globally innovative agencies. My research indicates that Kowa must capitalize on industry gaps, conduct environmental research, and minimize financial setbacks to obtain a competitive advantage in the current ink market. Further, Kowa must personalize customers’ buying experiences in order to expand its budding product lines and maximize profits.
Modern American Cover Art: The Great Gatsby Through Time, Jessica Harrell
Modern American Cover Art: The Great Gatsby Through Time, Jessica Harrell
Senior Theses
Book jackets and cover art are, more than anything, an advertising tool used to attract consumers, promote book sales, and establish company identity. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is a staple in the canon of American literature whose cover art has drastically transformed in the ninety years since its original publication. This thesis traces these changes over time, focusing specifically on publishing history, art history, American culture, and thematic interpretations. In doing so, I found that the most substantial influences on these covers were publishing house identity, design trends, and available artistic techniques. Ultimately, The Great Gatsby’s cover …

A New Platform For Knee Surgery Patient Rehabilitation, Motivating Mirror: Providing An Interactive Experience To Knee Surgery Patients To Assist Them With A More Effective Rehabilitation., Yu He
Theses
There are many tools for knee injury patients to use for rehabilitation. Both Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists work with patients on rehabilitation to help them recover, bring them back from illness or injury. For knee surgery patients, they will go through rehabilitation including CPM (Continuous passive movement) and exercises assigned by PT (Physical Therapists) to improve recovery.
CPM is a passive motion that a machine forces patients to do, and along with and after that, patients need to be active to do other exercises themselves. Lots of patients run into trouble when rehabbing. Some of them refuse to do …

Think And Stop: Share Your Knowledge To Help Others, Unez Akbar
Theses
Often, individuals develop habits that do not seem to have an adverse effect initially. However, these habits may lead to critical problems in the long run. It is important to create awareness about these critical problems as unawareness would lead to major challenges in the future.
"Think and Stop” is a social responsibility campaign that focuses on creating awareness amongst people about everyday facts.
The campaign would share some existing facts on specific topics such as eating disorder, harmful effects of wearing heels every day and excessive use of mint.
This thesis investigated how big these problems could become if …

Curating Illustrations Of Lewis Carroll’S Alice’S Adventures In Wonderland, Lindsay Persohn
Curating Illustrations Of Lewis Carroll’S Alice’S Adventures In Wonderland, Lindsay Persohn
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In the 150 years since Lewis Carroll and John Tenniel (1865/1866) first published Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, various illustrators have found inspiration in this story to recreate its images again and again. Since Carroll and Tenniel, Wonderland has concerned itself with sociocultural ideas and the work of artists who re-illustrated this story provide ways to trace history of these ideas.
Accordingly, the purpose of this project was to examine connections and breaks with tradition in illustration that contribute to an evolution of meaning in the Wonderland story. Additionally, through this project, I worked to interpret ideas from different artists in …

Clear Purpose, Comprehensive Execution—Raymond Ames Spruance (1886–1969), Wayne P. Hughes Jr.
Naval War College Review
From two tours at the Naval War College, Spruance understood both the roles and limitations of doctrine and principles, but the great sources of his success in World War II were luck, selfless ambition, skills acquired from study and experience, and innate talent.

Rté Brainstorm: How Do You Create A Pageant For The St Patrick's Day Parade?, Barry Sheehan
Academic Articles
In 2016 and 2017, DIT created pageant pieces for the St Patrick’s Festival parade in Dublin. In the Dublin School of Creative Arts in DIT we designed and fabricated the pageant pieces and, together with students and staff from all across DIT, we performed in the parade. We moved over a hundred people through the city in front of up to 500,000 people, live, with no full-dress rehearsal, never having done it before.
This article from the RTÉ Brainstorm series describes how we did it.

Improving Decision Support Through Storytelling, Tarah E. Cotton
Improving Decision Support Through Storytelling, Tarah E. Cotton
Theses and Dissertations
The role of decision support has emerged in the Air Force, Department of Defense, and in the civilian sector. With information being more accessible than ever before, the ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate information effectively and efficiently has become essential. While extensive resources are expended on growing the strength of decision support and analytical capability, the skills involved in presenting the data to decision makers is under-developed. Now more than ever, decision makers are being tasked with making huge decisions in short periods of time. With a shrinking workforce and greater reliance on automated systems, decision makers must use …

Illustrated Libros For Niños: The Interplay Of Translanguaging And Multimodality In Polycultural Picturebooks, Carolina Rossato De Almeida
Open Access Dissertations
The interplay of translanguaging and multimodality was analyzed across 15 English-based polycultural picturebooks with Spanish insertions. The way in which translanguaging is used across the verbal features of these texts and how it is intrinsically related to multimodal elements was critically analyzed. An eclectic coding method (Saldaña, 2016) was employed in order to uncover the nature of these picturebooks while answering the research questions. Five main categories emerged from the analysis, namely: (1) picturebooks provide context clues to understand translanguaging; (2) translanguaging demonstrates the grammar of an additional language; (3) translanguaging is used to represent specific semantic fields; (4) translanguaging …

Replacing Battleships With Aircraft Carriers In The Pacific In World War Ii, Thomas C. Hone
Replacing Battleships With Aircraft Carriers In The Pacific In World War Ii, Thomas C. Hone
Naval War College Review
This is a case study of operational and tactical innovation in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Its purpose is to erase a myth—the myth that Navy tactical and operational doctrine existing at the time of Pearl Harbor facilitated a straightforward substitution of carriers for the battleship force that had been severely damaged by Japanese carrier aviation on 7 December 1941. That is not what happened.

This Book Is Valuable: An Anthology Of Essays On Design And The Perception Of Value In Luxury Fashion Objects, Carlos Velasco
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
This Book is Valuable seeks to analyze how different concepts related to design and culture have influenced the apparent and perceived value of luxury fashion objects. This question is explored in different contexts to provide clarity and observation to the contemporary construction of value through systems of design.
This thesis is an anthology of three essays. The first essay is about immaterial capitalism, a system of knowledge, skill and imagination based capital. The second essay is about the strategy of artification, using fine art as a way to link systems of value together. It is also about how luxury conglomerates …

A Look At Emotional Intelligence: A Qualitative Study Of Peer Mentorship Via Circle Of Friends, Christopher De Loach
Dissertations
Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological study is to explore the lived experiences of former Circle of Friends (CoF) nondisabled peer mentors of students with multiple disabilities to discover how this mentorship program impacted Daniel Goleman’s four dimensions of emotional intelligence.
Methodology: This study employed a qualitative phenomenological design. In qualitative designs, the researcher seeks to welcome the subject’s voice into a chorus that contributes to the summative ballad of the sample. The researcher must seek to be a neutral conduit that captures those voices. Thus, the researcher in this study interviewed 14 former peer friends from the CoF program …

But First, Let Me Take A Selfie: A Content Analysis Of Female And Male Celebrity Selfies On Instagram, Maureen Grace Elinzano
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research is to analyze the differences between women and men and their selfies on the popular social media application Instagram. Past research and notions in popular culture show that women take more selfies than men do, and that they place more time and effort into their selfies than men do. The goal is to show that women may not solely do the action of taking and posting selfies and that the stereotype of taking and posting selfies being a feminine action should not be prevalent. We conducted a thorough visual content analysis of selfies on Instagram …

Vrent: A New Interactive & Immersive Rental Space Experience, Wenhan Lin
Theses
According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, there are more than 18.2 million college students in the United States, including both out- of-state students and international students (Drew, 2013). While trying to find a space to live is a difficult process for anyone, it is especially painful for international students. Housing agencies are also tasked with providing accurate information to potential tenants coming from different cultural backgrounds, which can be challenging on their part. This project sought to not only solve this problem, but also enhance the experience of house- hunting for international students.
The overall purpose of this …
