One of the current and biggest problems in the system of emergency care for the drug overdose epidemic is the failure of information delivery on nearby treatment facilities. Even though some initiatives have tried to solve this issue, they either failed in delivering the information or in providing good usability. This paper presents the design and development of a web application that we refer to as DrugHelp.Care. This application delivers highly accurate, easy-to-understand, and targeted information in a timely manner for substance users and their well-wishers. It also provides an ecosystem for the treatment facilities with an easy-to-use interface to …

A systematic search was conducted across eight databases using the keywords: “measure*, scale*, father* or paternal*, and involve*. A final sample of 17 studies were identified for a systematic review. A total of eleven (five child-reported and six father-reported) father involvement scales were used in the studies. Guided by a heuristic contextual model of father involvement, secondary data from Waves 5 and 9 of the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study were analyzed to assess the effects of father involvement (mother and father report of father involvement) at five years of age on children’s internalizing, externalizing, and delinquency behaviors and …

Midpoint And Endpoint Sustainability Assessment Of U.S. And China Manufacturing: A Comparative Mrio+Recipe Analysis, Mustafa Saber
Master's Theses
Manufacturing is among the most important industries for an economy, which creates value-added, fosters innovation, stimulates employment and economic growth. Therefore, manufacturing industries are crucial for a country’s sustainable development not only for economic reasons but also for social (.e.g. employment, tax, etc.) and environmental ones. Thus, manufacturing activities’ contribution to the economy is critically related with environmental and social impacts. Sustainable economic growth is essential and necessary for a country to provide all necessary goods and services to its growing population.

A Phenomenological Study Of Professional Master's Athletic Training Graduates' Lived Clinical Experiences, Laura Ann Wamsley
A Phenomenological Study Of Professional Master's Athletic Training Graduates' Lived Clinical Experiences, Laura Ann Wamsley
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the shared clinical experiences of post Spring 2014 graduates of CAATE-accredited professional master’s degree programs. The theories guiding this qualitative study were Kolb’s (1984) experiential learning theory as it theorizes that students learn best through experiences, such as clinical education (Witt, Colbert, & Kelly, 2013), and Astin’s (1999) student involvement theory that claims that the effectiveness of any educational policy or program is directly related to the capacity of that policy or practice to increase student involvement, meaning that a clinical education program that is designed to encourage student involvement will …
No Senior Or Persons With Disabilities Left Behind, Elizabeth Lopez
No Senior Or Persons With Disabilities Left Behind, Elizabeth Lopez
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
The Monterey County Department of Social Services has been serving the community through the various programs to the community. The Aging and Adult Services unit of the department offers In-Home Supportive Services program which serves the senior population and people living with disabilities. This program unfortunately is not very known in the community and can serve a lot more people than it currently is. The problem being addressed is the lack of awareness that the program has among the community. The project implemented to remedy this lack of awareness is the creation of a county brochure that explains the program, …

Evaluation Of Short Term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Intervention In A Primary Care Setting, Kevin Hengeveld
Evaluation Of Short Term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Intervention In A Primary Care Setting, Kevin Hengeveld
Doctoral Projects
Introduction: Depression and anxiety are chronic recurring medical conditions that impact all aspects of health. When depression and anxiety are present with other comorbid diseases, mortality and health care costs are higher. Children and young adults are particularly vulnerable to mental health issues. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for this demographic. Depression is common in adolescents with an incidence of 8 to 20 percent. Primary care provides 70 percent of mental health care in the United States, and the primary intervention offered is pharmacological. Evidence suggests that a combination of medication and psychotherapy provide superior relief of …
Fostering Compassionate Care For Persons With Alzheimer's Disease In Nursing Facilities., Sam Gilbert Cotton
Fostering Compassionate Care For Persons With Alzheimer's Disease In Nursing Facilities., Sam Gilbert Cotton
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The aim of this dissertation study was to examine the impact of the implementation of a new Compassionate Care (CC) curriculum on the quality of care provided by Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to residents with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). More specifically, this dissertation used Kirkpatrick’s model of evaluation to assess the reactions, learning, and behavior change of the CNAs exposed to the curriculum, and ultimately the impact of the curriculum on the stress levels of residents with AD. To accomplish this, we had two studies that aligned with the Kirkpatrick model of evaluation. For Study #1, the evaluation of the compassionate …
Arab-Islamic And Folk Health Models: New Perspectives On Syrian Refugee Resettlement In The Us., Ghina Kheir
Arab-Islamic And Folk Health Models: New Perspectives On Syrian Refugee Resettlement In The Us., Ghina Kheir
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research builds upon the framework of the Health Traditions Model (HTM) as described in 1994 by Rachel Spector, a scholar and practitioner of a cultural care model of health among multicultural populations. I integrate this model into a study of Syrian refugees’ resettlement experience in Louisville, Kentucky. Syrian refugees’ voices and narratives of their corresponding Arab-Islamic and folk approaches to health, illness, and healing are the launch site for this project. I argue that approaching the resettlement experience from the refugees’ own cultural and Arab-Islamic perspectives toward health, illness, and healing aids in achieving a pluralistic health care system …
Adverse Childhood Experiences, Depression, And Resilience In African-American Adolescents, Jamie C. Freeny
Adverse Childhood Experiences, Depression, And Resilience In African-American Adolescents, Jamie C. Freeny
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Research shows that exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is common among adolescents; however, no studies have examined the prevalence of ACEs in a racially homogenous sample of African-American adolescents. Thus, the present study examined the cumulative and individual prevalence of ACEs in African-American adolescents. Data were collected from African-American adolescents (n = 241) who attended youth events hosted by churches in Houston, TX. An expanded ACEs tool was used to collect data. ACE scores were summed and dichotomized to 0-3 ACEs versus 4-19 ACEs because a score of four or more indicates a higher risk for adverse mental and …

Empathy And The Development Of Affective Skills, Anna Ratka
Empathy And The Development Of Affective Skills, Anna Ratka
Pharmacy Faculty/Staff Publications
Empathy, the most important human attribute that matters in every aspect of life, is essential in health care. Provision of patient-centered care requires empathic health care practitioners. The correlation between empathy of health care providers and improved patient adherence, satisfaction, and treatment outcomes is well-established. Scholarly evidence shows positive correlations between empathy and affective domains and confirms that soft skills are grounded in empathy. Empathic students have stronger affective skills and are capable to acquire, develop, reinforce, and display strong affective behaviors, abilities, and attitudes. As an innate quality, empathy is malleable. The level of empathy can be influenced by …

Three Centuries Of Black Catholic Faith, Culture And Activism In New Orleans, Cecilia Moore
Journal of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium
This paper provides an overview of three centuries of black Catholic faith, culture and activism in New Orleans. In particular, it looks at how Catholicism helped antebellum black New Orleanians to build and maintain family ties, how black Catholics as individuals and collectives used their material and spiritual resources to create a religious community, schools, and parishes, and how black Catholic New Orleanians used their faith in conjunction with their religious institutions to fight for social justice and civil rights from the era of Reconstruction through the 1960s.
My Story‐Your Story: A Pastoral Response For 21st-Century Catechesis, Timone Davis
My Story‐Your Story: A Pastoral Response For 21st-Century Catechesis, Timone Davis
Journal of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium
Many Catholics experience catechetical challenges as they try to keep their faith growing in the midst of “new” truths, spiritual indifference and dwindling Mass attendance. This is especially true for Black Catholics who strive to balance racism in the world and racism in the Church. This article offers a pastoral response that uses story— telling and listening—for catechesis. Using My Story-Your Story as a method of storytelling, the article expounds on how story is the foundation of communication and how it can open catechetical endeavors for the 21st century. My Story-Your Story acknowledges the role our experiences, traditions and culture …
Understanding The Connection Between Clinically Diagnosed Adhd (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), And/Or Depression, With Childhood Abuse/Maltreatment: A Qualitative Interpretive Meta-Synthesis, Miriam Tepper
2018 Fall Honors Capstone Projects - Archive
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is a chronic, neurological disorder diagnosed in children who show symptoms of inattention, and/or hyperactive/impulsive behaviors. Considering that these symptoms overlap with some symptoms of abuse and neglect, it is necessary to further explore how to differentiate. A Qualitative Interpretive Meta-Synthesis (QIMS) was conducted to synthesize results from existing qualitative studies on students who were abused or neglected. Almost 150 school-aged students and 14 agencies were included in this paper. Six major themes emerged: 1) setting the stage, 2) the unexpected role of school, 3) how it started, 4) how it ended, 5) long term …

Program Evaluation In Doctoral-Level Counselor Education Preparation: Concerns And Recommendations, Christopher A. Sink, Gergory Lemich
Counseling & Human Services Faculty Publications
Within the context of intentional collaboration between doctoral-level program evaluation and counselor educators, this article addresses the need for advanced training in program evaluation for preservice doctoral-level counselor education (CE) students. To determine the current level of evaluation training provided to doctoral students attending a nationally accredited CE program, 81 institutions and their program websites and accompanying materials were analyzed. Approximately 25% of these graduate programs appeared to provide a modest level of training. Over 50% of these units did not fully identify what program evaluation preparation was required or offered to students. Recommendations to enhance the program evaluation component …
