Student’S Experiences In Gwu School Of Divinity Equip Her To Serve, Office Of University Communications

Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive

After surviving a diagnosis of melanoma in 2011, Christi Hollifield, a student in the School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University, began to earnestly seek God’s plan for her life. She asked herself, “What does God want me to do?” And, “Why did he chose me to continue on?” She found the answer while homeschooling her children and helping at church.

During all but one of her 18 years in ministry, Pastor Paulleatha “Paula” Bruce has also worked as an educator. In 2008, she became the lead pastor of Freedom Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C., but continued to work as a school administrator for nine years. Despite her practical experience, she wanted to further her theological education and enrolled in the School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University.

The Gawain-Poet And The Fourteenth-Century English Anticlerical Tradition, Ethan Campbell Feb 2018

The Gawain-Poet And The Fourteenth-Century English Anticlerical Tradition, Ethan Campbell

Research in Medieval and Early Modern Culture

In this fresh reading of the Gawain-poet's Middle English works (Cleanness, Patience, Pearl, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight), Ethan Campbell argues that a central feature of their moral rhetoric is anticlerical critique. Written in an era when clerical corruption was a key concern for polemicists such as Richard FitzRalph and John Wyclif, as well as satirical poets such as John Gower, William Langland, and Geoffrey Chaucer, the Gawain poems feature an explicit attack on hypocritical priests in the opening lines of Cleanness as well as more subtle critiques embedded within depictions of …

A Consensual Inquiry Of Teachers’ Responses To Classroom Situations: Implications For School Counselors, Jeffrey M. Warren, Gretchen G. Robinson Feb 2018

A Consensual Inquiry Of Teachers’ Responses To Classroom Situations: Implications For School Counselors, Jeffrey M. Warren, Gretchen G. Robinson

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

Although often overlooked by school leaders, teacher emotions are key factors that impact classroom climate and therefore educational outcomes and student success. We use a framework grounded in rational emotive behavior therapy and social cognitive theory to explore teachers’ perceived thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in response to common classroom situations. The consensual qualitative research methodology was used to analyze data collected from 21 elementary school teachers. Findings suggest that psychosocial barriers exist among teachers who undermine effective instruction and classroom climate. Implications for school counselor practice are discussed.
