Catholic School Teachers' Perceptions Of Factors Related To Low Mathematics Achievement: A Qualitative Case Study, Andrzej Robert Piotrowski Mar 2018

Catholic School Teachers' Perceptions Of Factors Related To Low Mathematics Achievement: A Qualitative Case Study, Andrzej Robert Piotrowski

Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative case study explored Catholic school teachers' perceptions of factors related to low mathematics achievement in second through fifth grade at three Catholic elementary schools in the Eastern United States. The three schools that participated in this study have varying degrees of ethnic diversity and vary in school enrollment. In 2015, all schools in the archdiocese produced standardized test results well above the national average in reading in second through fifth grades. In the same academic year, the gap between the national average and the district's second through fifth grade mathematics scores was significantly narrower. This study identifies the …

School Of Divinity Student Experiences Spiritual Renewal In Gardner-Webb Program, Office Of University Communications Mar 2018

School Of Divinity Student Experiences Spiritual Renewal In Gardner-Webb Program, Office Of University Communications

Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive

Chaplain Kevin S. Crowder of Fredericksburg, Va., chose to attend the School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University because of his past experience with Dr. Doug Dickens, professor of pastoral studies. Crowder respected Dickens and knew he would be involved in an exceptional program. “More than 25 years ago, Dickens was my pastoral care professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth, Texas),” Crowder explained. “As an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) certified educator, I wanted a doctoral program that had experience with ACPE certified Educators. I got that with Dickens, as he is an ACPE certified educator.”

Servant Leadership Among Senior Pastors Wives, Minister's Wives And Women In Ministry, Domeniek Larae Harris

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The purpose of this study was to explore the servant leadership practices of a sample of women associated with the ministry and to determine whether the frequency with which these practices were engaged in differed according to these women’s ministerial role, their ethnic backgrounds, their level of formal education, and their years of experience in the ministry. One hundred and eighty women responded in full to a modified version of Barbuto and Wheeler’s (2006) Servant Leadership Questionnaire that measures servant leadership in terms of five underlying dimensions: altruistic calling, emotional healing, wisdom, persuasive mapping, and organizational stewardship. Results of a Repeated …

My Story, Our Story, God’S Story: Storytelling As A Means Of Faith Formation And Community-Building In College Students, Jenny Call Mar 2018

My Story, Our Story, God’S Story: Storytelling As A Means Of Faith Formation And Community-Building In College Students, Jenny Call

Faculty and Staff Papers, Articles, etc.

Many colleges are reporting increased mental health concerns among students as well as issues of increased polarity and racial tension on their campuses. I believe these problems point to a spiritual disconnection as higher education aims have shifted in such a way that the spiritual needs of students have been neglected.

In this thesis, I propose an intervention that nurtures a student’s individual spiritual growth while developing leadership capacity for college student leaders in religious and spiritual life. This story circle model incorporates storytelling, active listening, and individual and group reflection as spiritual practices that promote faith and identity formation. …

Am I Good Enough? Dealing Pastorally With The Shame Of Women In The Amalgam Of Korean Confucian And Christian Culture, Sarah Ahn Mar 2018

Am I Good Enough? Dealing Pastorally With The Shame Of Women In The Amalgam Of Korean Confucian And Christian Culture, Sarah Ahn

Seminary Masters Theses

In this paper, the literature review of shame is examined: the definition of emotions, the relationship between shame and the self, the definition and characteristics of shame alongside with guilt, the social nature of shame, and the female quality of shame. After examining the previous attempts on shame and its relationship with culture, this paper argues how shame functions, particularly in Korean culture, employing a cultural-anthropological, a societal-anthropological, and a Korean native-psychological approach. Furthermore, the paper explores the relationship between shame and Korean women in the amalgam of Korean Confucian and Christian context. The negative and positive roles of shame …

Civil Procedure And The Ministerial Exception, Peter J. Smith, Robert W. Tuttle Mar 2018

Civil Procedure And The Ministerial Exception, Peter J. Smith, Robert W. Tuttle

Fordham Law Review

In Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church & School v. EEOC, the U.S. Supreme Court recognized a ministerial exception to the ordinary rules of employer liability. The Court also concluded that the exception operates as an affirmative defense rather than a jurisdictional bar. This conclusion raises quite significant questions about how courts should address the exception in the course of litigation. This Article posits that courts should approach these procedural questions in light of the underlying justification for the ministerial exception. The exception reflects a longstanding constitutional limitation on the competence of courts to resolve “strictly and purely ecclesiastical” questions. To …

Seven Key Steps In Planning And Implementing A Successful Church Merger, Andrew Pietrylo Mar 2018

Seven Key Steps In Planning And Implementing A Successful Church Merger, Andrew Pietrylo

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The hypothesis of this project is that merging of two churches is a viable option for some congregations who are seeking to advance the kingdom of Christ. However, an analysis of obtainable literature reveals that there is little material available to assist churches that are interested in such a pursuit. This project will provide churches with an effective process of determining, implementing and maintaining a successful church merger. Utilizing information from Scripture, current trends, advice from church growth experts, observations of actual church mergers, and a post-merger survey, this project will develop practical steps to navigate churches through a successful …
