Narrative Leadership: Exploring The Concept Of Time In Leader Storytelling, Helen H. Chung Dr. Mar 2018

Narrative Leadership: Exploring The Concept Of Time In Leader Storytelling, Helen H. Chung Dr.

Industrial-Organizational Psychology Dissertations

This dissertation explores leader storytelling and the use of temporality in leader enactment. Although narrative leadership is broadly described in previous theory as leading with storytelling, a formal theory of narrative leadership has not yet been developed. Recently, researchers have identified the narrator’s ability to locate a story within a meaningful time continuum of past, present, and future as potentially important. Using a grounded theory approach, the question that guided the research was: How does the use of time in narrative impact the enactment of leadership during a strategic change?

With the goal of developing a theory that emerges from …

Improving Neonatal Resuscitation Readiness, Benay Johnson Mar 2018

Improving Neonatal Resuscitation Readiness, Benay Johnson

Seton Hall University DNP Final Projects

According to the AHA and the AAP, approximately 10% of newborns require some assistance to begin breathing at birth; less than 1% need extensive resuscitative measures to survive (2015). There is an abundance of evidence-based literature on the need for neonatal resuscitation readiness. However much of this literature is targeted toward teamwork efforts during the act of resuscitation. This DNP scholarly project is to take a step back to improve the actual set-up component required for neonatal resuscitation. There can be instances in which equipment is not properly set-up or the set-up is not appropriate for the gestational age of …

Using Safety Checklists Outside Of The Operating Room, Annabelle Gerhardt Mar 2018

Using Safety Checklists Outside Of The Operating Room, Annabelle Gerhardt

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Abstract

The use of a Time Out checklist for patient safety in non-operating room procedural areas is equally important for positive patient outcomes as in the operating room (OR). In this busy southwestern United States hospital, the procedural teams in the non-operating room areas were reported to not be fully engaged during the performance of the Time Out pre-procedural pause prior to gastroenterological (GI) procedures. This study was conducted to improve compliance with the scripted Time Out checklist and promote full engagement of the GI procedural team during the Time Out thus reducing risks of wrong site surgery. Literature has …

Rebuilding The Ukrainian Navy, Deborah Sanders Mar 2018

Rebuilding The Ukrainian Navy, Deborah Sanders

Naval War College Review

Russia’s seizure of many of Ukraine’s naval assets dealt a serious blow to the already-small Ukrainian navy. The Ukrainian government’s ambitions to rebuild a balanced fleet may be unrealizable. The progress already made in building a “mosquito fleet” suggests that redirecting development toward coastal defense would be a wiser course.

Theoretical Framework For The Study Of Intangible Investment Into Innovative Capital In Resource Limited Environment: A Case For Synchronous Innovations?, Jovan Trajkovski Mar 2018

Theoretical Framework For The Study Of Intangible Investment Into Innovative Capital In Resource Limited Environment: A Case For Synchronous Innovations?, Jovan Trajkovski

Economic and Business Review

Innovation intensity in firms depends on resource availability, primarily financial and human resource constraints. The paper proposes a theoretical framework for investment into innovative capital in the case of limited resources. By relying on the fragmented literature on innovation under resource constraints, the model proposes a comprehensive theoretical framework, which answers 3 questions: (1) Which innovation types are more relevant in resource limited environment and why, (2) which resources do they need and why at which stage of the innovation process, (3) what processes companies should embrace in order to kick-off the innovation activity (where should they start from), to …

Do Better Performing Companies Possess More Intangible Assets: Case Of Slovenia, Matjaž Koman, Gordana Lalović Mar 2018

Do Better Performing Companies Possess More Intangible Assets: Case Of Slovenia, Matjaž Koman, Gordana Lalović

Economic and Business Review

Drawing on the intangible resource-based view of the firm, we investigate the difference between high and low performing companies regarding their profile of core intangible resources. The results obtained indicate that on average better performing companies hold higher share of intangible capital on majority of analysed intangible resources and thus may have developed more core competences and capabilities needed for superior performance. The paper contributes to the previous literature as it highlights the existence of intangible resources within the population of firms with common characteristics, which favourably distinguish superior firms from less successful one. For the managers and policy makers …

Articles, Abstracts, and Reports

Tyler Norris, writing in the 2017 Well Being Trust Annual Report:

This is a promising moment for our nation, as the importance of mental health and well-being become obvious to growing numbers of Americans and awareness of mental health disorders, addiction and related conditions are emerging from the shadows and moving onto the front page. For a long time, diseases of despair— depression, anxiety, addiction, thoughts of suicide—have been stigmatized as character flaws or moral failures, and even today are widely viewed as a personal matter, something to be covered up, kept out of sight, never talked about. The responsibility …

Credibility and trustworthiness are the bedrock upon which any science is built. The strength of these foundations has been increasingly questioned across the sciences as instances of research misconduct and mounting concerns over the prevalence of detrimental research practices have been identified. Consequently, the purpose of this article is to encourage our scientific community to positively and proactively engage in efforts that foster a healthy and robust industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology. We begin by advancing six defining principles that we believe reflect the values of robust science and offer criteria for evaluating proposed efforts to change scientific practices. Recognizing …

The clinical question addressed was: what is an evidence-based multidimensional approach to improve cardiovascular quality measure documentation in a Native American primary care clinic? The multidimensional interventions included educational sessions for Community Health Representatives (CHRs), a provider education session on appropriate documentation in order to satisfy quality measures, chart review …

Evidence Based Toolkit To Improve Oncology Referrals To Palliative Care, Katelyn M. Gettel Mar 2018

Evidence Based Toolkit To Improve Oncology Referrals To Palliative Care, Katelyn M. Gettel

Doctoral Projects

As cancer related mortality decreases, the number of patients living with cancer symptoms and the side effects of cancer treatment will continue to grow. In 2016, over 1.5 million Americans were newly diagnosed with cancer (American Cancer Society, 2016). Several major medical organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and the World Health Organization (WHO) endorse the integration of palliative care into cancer care (Ramchandran, 2015). Although many cancer centers report offering palliative care, this remains largely limited to inpatient services.

The stakeholders of the hospice and palliative care division of a …

Out With The Old: Reinventing Space In The Classroom, Amandine Annie Loveland Mar 2018

Out With The Old: Reinventing Space In The Classroom, Amandine Annie Loveland

Theses and Dissertations

This research study explored the impact of space and classroom environments on student engagement and learning. The traditional classroom design is determined mostly by the personality of the teacher, or the theme that they choose to integrate. Traditionally, tables and desks are placed in groups or rows, based on teacher preference, and students are confined to small 2 feet by 3 feet spaces. While teachers thus make their classrooms private to themselves and seldom involve students in crucial decisions about their layout, schools are inherently public places. In this thesis, targeted at elementary school teachers, the teacher/researcher considers the benefits …

Language Translation For Mental Health Materials: A Comparison Of Current Back-Translation And Skopostheorie-Based Methods, Amelia Kathleen Black

Theses and Dissertations

As mental health professionals seek to disseminate information in many languages in order to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, it is important to consider the methods of written translation that the field is choosing to employ. The method chosen for translation can affect the accuracy and usability of the translated text. This study begins with a survey of current literature, the results of which suggest that the most popular translation method in the mental health field is back-translation, a translation method based in the premise that translating a text back into its original English after it has …
