Prevalence And Risk Factors For Fear Of Birth In Pregnant Women In The United States, Whitney Gray Mildren
Nursing Dissertations - Archive
Fear of birth is an extreme state of anxiety from phobia about childbirth. It causes severe distress and anxiety. Women experiencing this distress may decide to avoid pregnancy, terminate pregnancy, or elect cesarean delivery without medical necessity. Prevalence of fear of birth in the United States has been reported in only three studies and has ranged from 27% to 52%, but the populations studied were healthy, college-aged, women who were not pregnant and were nulliparous. In other countries, the average prevalence rate of fear of birth in nulliparous and multiparous women at various points during pregnancy was 23%. Researchers from …

A Cmos Switched Capacitor Filter Based Potentiometric Readout Circuit For Chemfet Sensor, Revathy Perumalsamy
Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive
There are wide ranges of potentiometric sensors available for chemical sensing. The latest implementation of these sensors is CHEM resistors. In real time environment for an in-vivo application area, noise and power are the important factors. Though the selectivity of CHEM resistors improved with recent technological developments analog front end measurement circuits are always the limiting factor. Without compromising the performance parameters like gain and op-swing it is a challenge to improve the noise and power. Noise and power are the two factors which always require improvement. Also, there is trade-off between noise and power which needs to be balanced. …

Hb 121 - Property, Wills, Trusts, And Estates, Colt Burnett, Ben Dell'orto
Georgia State University Law Review
The Act amends several aspects of trust law, including updating the application of the Uniform Statutory Rule Against Perpetuities in Georgia by extending the time within which a nonvested property interest or power of appointment must vest from 90 to 360 years. The Act also allows for modifications of a trust without judicial approval in some cases. Many passages are simplified, including the calculation of compensation for a trustee, which can now be modified through different procedures. Finally, the Act codifies the role of trust directors.

CUP Undergraduate Research
Collaboration between schools and emergency managers is paramount in addressing the whole community approach to emergency management for increasing preparedness (FEMA, 2011). As every disaster is local, a unified and collaborative approach should be taken to ensure schools are not a hindrance but rather an asset for preparedness, response and recovery efforts. Schools must have ownership and accountability for ensuring they are prepared for emergencies. Additionally, local emergency management agencies with their capabilities, capacity and knowledge must take action in response to the opportunity to build partnerships and expanded their efforts to create a resilient community.

Relationships Between Microbial Indicators And Pathogens In Recreational Water Settings, Asja Korajkic, Brian R. Mcminn, Valerie J. Harwood
Integrative Biology Faculty and Staff Publications
Fecal pollution of recreational waters can cause scenic blight and pose a threat to public health, resulting in beach advisories and closures. Fecal indicator bacteria (total and fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, and enterococci), and alternative indicators of fecal pollution (Clostridium perfringens and bacteriophages) are routinely used in the assessment of sanitary quality of recreational waters. However, fecal indicator bacteria (FIB), and alternative indicators are found in the gastrointestinal tract of humans, and many other animals and therefore are considered general indicators of fecal pollution. As such, there is room for improvement in terms of their use for informing risk assessment …

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) has been used to diagnose benign and malignant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) conditions for over 20 years. EUS allows close access to pancreas, gall bladder, left lobe of the liver and bile duct. In particular, it is possible to sample these and other retroperitoneal tissue safely. With the introduction of novel fork-tip and Franssen type cutting needles, the diagnostic yield has improved significantly to greater than 95%. Hence, it has become the investigation of choice for pancreatic pathology. Contrast Enhanced EUS (CE-EUS) may help differentiating malignant tumours from slow growing tumours such as neuroendocrine tumours and inflammatory lesions. In …

The Perils Of Philanthrocapitalism, Eric Franklin Amarante
The Perils Of Philanthrocapitalism, Eric Franklin Amarante
Maryland Law Review
For over a century, philosophers, politicians, and sociologists have bemoaned philanthropy’s inherent antidemocratic, paternalistic, and amateuristic aspects. The antidemocratic nature of philanthropy is self-evident: When a wealthy person determines the best way to address a societal problem without the input of either society at large or the intended beneficiaries of the philanthropy, the result is a deficit of democracy. Philanthropy’s amateurism stems from the illogical belief that wealthy individuals ought to address some of the world’s most complex and intransigent problems simply because they successfully amassed a fortune in the private sector. The paternalism critique focuses on the assumption that …

Platform Advocacy And The Threat To Deliberative Democracy, Abbey Stemler
Maryland Law Review
Businesses have long tried to influence political outcomes, but today, there is a new and potent form of corporate political power—Platform Advocacy. Internet-based platforms, such as Facebook, Google, and Uber, mobilize their user bases through direct solicitation of support and the more troubling exploitation of irrational behavior. Platform Advocacy helps platforms push policy agendas that create favorable legal environments for themselves, thereby strengthening their own dominance in the marketplace. This new form of advocacy will have radical effects on deliberative democracy.
In the age of constant digital noise and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to detect and analyze …

Investigating The Influence Of Non-Technical Words To The Teaching And Learning Of Science: A Case Study Of A Primary School In Taveta Sub-County, Buya Yorrum Komora
Master of Education
Teaching of science has been found to be most challenging. These challenges are believed to be due to lack of apparatus used for teaching, class size, and inadequate curriculum materials but also the language used to teach science. During the process of teaching, learners face the problem of not understanding the meaning of non-technical words and how they create regular explanation of the knowledge itself. Non-technical words refer to words that have one or multiple meanings in our daily language but carry exact and specific meaning, and different when used in scientific context. Studies have shown that learners only experience …
