Exploring Teachers’ Pedagogical Practices In Delivering Early Childhood Curriculum Content In The Classroom, Winfrida Jacom Mrope
Exploring Teachers’ Pedagogical Practices In Delivering Early Childhood Curriculum Content In The Classroom, Winfrida Jacom Mrope
Master of Education
Teachers’ pedagogical practices are potential in improving teaching and learning outcomes. In the early years, one of the factors leading to proper child development and learning is the pedagogical practices used during child’s school life. Pre-primary education is a crucial stage where a child’s personality, physical, talents and mental ability are identified and developed; therefore teachers have to put in place relevant pedagogical practices. The purpose of the study was to explore the types of pedagogical practices used by teachers in delivering the curriculum content in the preprimary classrooms. Understanding the reasons why teachers use particular teaching practices helps to …

Experiences Of Upstate South Carolina Historical Preservationists: Wisdom For Cultivating Future Advocates, Steven Clay Pruitt
All Dissertations
Current literature has suggested that despite scholars in other fields gleaning vast amounts of experimental data to use to hone curriculum decisions and support their disciplines, researchers in social studies education have failed to look at Significant Life Experiences (SLEs) of Historical Preservationists (HPs) for the same benefit. The American Historical Association (AHA) cited a twenty-one percent dip in history majors since 2012 (Townsend, 2017), historic sites like Colonial Williamsburg have been hit by a lack of interest and visitation from the public (Tiedemann & Marsico, 2017), and many local historical associations and community museums have uncertain futures due to …

Addiction In The Workplace: Prevention, Detection, And Treatment Options, Kacie Lovas
Counselor Education Capstones
Untreated drug and alcohol-addicted adults can cause health, safety, and financial strain in various sectors of our communities. Because the majority of substance abusers are working adults, workplace treatment programs have become significant in helping establish treatment to a potentially unsupported group. Through treatment options like Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) such as Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), employers can provide services that protect their productivity levels and decrease costs, while also providing support to their employees and community. In addition to preventative measures, screening and assessment tools can assist employers in chemical dependency detection efforts. Inpatient and …

Counselor Education Capstones
Students today have a lot on their plates. Besides a full schedule of classes, many students also have duties at home, part-time jobs, and a variety of extra-curricular activities. Immigrant students have the added responsibilities of balancing learning about a new country and culture and keeping parts of their native culture alive. They may also be learning a new language and/or translating for their parents. Simultaneously, they are often trying to figure out how they fit in this new place and in their new school. Culturally Responsive Teaching, where value is placed on the student’s culture, language, and experiences, and …

Developing Cultural Competency In Anesthesia Through Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Emma To
Doctoral Projects
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are the main anesthesia providers in over 70% of rural hospitals providing anesthesia. Each year, over 2,000 student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) graduate and continue as licensed CRNAs. This Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) project emphasizes the importance of developing culturally competent providers in anesthesia by promoting early outreach in cultural competence education of SRNAs. Cultural competence is described as possessing characteristics of congruent attitudes, awareness, and conduct that provides and enables effective skills in cross-cultural encounters. Encompassing cultural competency education early in the SRNAs profession may provide valuable lifelong cultural skills that will benefit …

The Single Mitochondrion Of The Kinetoplastid Parasite Crithidia Fasciculata Is A Dynamic Network., John Dimaio, Gordon Ruthel, Joshua J. Cannon, Madeline F. Malfara, Megan L. Povelones
Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences & Biotechnology Faculty Papers
Mitochondria are central organelles in cellular metabolism. Their structure is highly dynamic, allowing them to adapt to different energy requirements, to be partitioned during cell division, and to maintain functionality. Mitochondrial dynamics, including membrane fusion and fission reactions, are well studied in yeast and mammals but it is not known if these processes are conserved throughout eukaryotic evolution. Kinetoplastid parasites are some of the earliest-diverging eukaryotes to retain a mitochondrion. Each cell has only a single mitochondrial organelle, making them an interesting model for the role of dynamics in controlling mitochondrial architecture. We have investigated the mitochondrial division cycle in …
Effects Of Sleep On Maximal Exercise, Jose Rios
Effects Of Sleep On Maximal Exercise, Jose Rios
Kinesiology Student Research - Archive
INTRODUCTION: Sleep is a function of the body that is essential for proper recovery physically and mentally. Necessary for tissue repair and growth, muscle relaxation and healthy balance of hormones. The average time of sleep for the body to function properly is approximately seven to eight hours a night. Sleep deficiency is common among adults and it can cause chronic health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and kidney disease. Research shows that sleep has no effect on maximal exercise. Maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) is the maximum capacity of the body to transport and utilize oxygen …
The Multiple Justifications Of Occupational Licensing, Nick Robinson
The Multiple Justifications Of Occupational Licensing, Nick Robinson
Washington Law Review
Nearly a quarter of all workers in the United States are currently in a job that requires an occupational license. As the prevalence of occupational licensing has grown, so have claims that its overuse is causing increased consumer costs and impairing labor mobility and economic freedom. To address these concerns, many policymakers and academics argue that licensing restrictions should be more closely tailored to the goal of protecting the public from harm and that, to guard against capture, practitioners should not regulate their own licensing. Federal courts, in turn, have drawn on this vision of the proper role of occupational …
To Withdraw Or Not To Withdraw: Reviewability Of An Agency's Withdrawn Proposed Rule, Jane E. Carmody
To Withdraw Or Not To Withdraw: Reviewability Of An Agency's Withdrawn Proposed Rule, Jane E. Carmody
Washington Law Review
Federal agencies propose thousands of regulations in any given year. The Administrative Procedure Act requires such agencies to follow certain procedures when enacting rules and regulations. However, when an agency proposes a new rule that is purely discretionary—not mandated by Congress—it may withdraw the proposed rule at any point before the rule is finalized. In October 2017, the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) withdrew a proposed rule that, if enacted, would have required long-term care facilities to recognize out of state same-sex marriages as a condition of Medicare and Medicaid participation. In its formal withdrawal published in the Federal …
Privacy's Double Standards, Scott Skinner-Thompson
Privacy's Double Standards, Scott Skinner-Thompson
Washington Law Review
Where the right to privacy exists, it should be available to all people. If not universally available, then privacy rights should be particularly accessible to marginalized individuals who are subject to greater surveillance and are less able to absorb the social costs of privacy violations. But in practice, there is evidence that people of privilege tend to fare better when they bring privacy tort claims than do non-privileged individuals. This disparity occurs despite doctrine suggesting that those who occupy prominent and public social positions are entitled to diminished privacy tort protections. This Article unearths disparate outcomes in public disclosure tort …
A Meticulous Food Safety Plan Today Avoids Handcuffs Tomorrow, Kim Bousquet
A Meticulous Food Safety Plan Today Avoids Handcuffs Tomorrow, Kim Bousquet
Journal of Food Law & Policy
In August 2010, thousands of people across the United States were poisoned by eating eggs unknowingly tainted with Salmonella enteritidis bacteria. Following a lengthy investigation, the owners of the facility where the outbreak began were sentenced to three months in prison. This is not a one-off case; poor food safety practices are responsible for several outbreaks and often end in incarceration. Filthy hen houses, diseased fruit storage, and negligent food processing may be the last thing we want to imagine, but these practices have much to teach today's food producers. This article first examines how poor food production practices can …

The Contribution Of Private Forestland Management And Monitoring To Avian Conservation In Pine Systems In South Carolina, Jesse Marguerite Wood
The Contribution Of Private Forestland Management And Monitoring To Avian Conservation In Pine Systems In South Carolina, Jesse Marguerite Wood
All Theses
Land-use activities and changes to ecosystems pervasively threaten biodiversity. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Bill allocates financial and technical resources to meet the need for agricultural and timber production while also conserving natural resources. On private forestlands in South Carolina, management practices (prescribed burning, thinning, herbicide application) are employed to improve upland pine habitat for wildlife and are reimbursable through Farm Bill cost-share programs. Some regional priority bird species have habitat requirements dependent on forestry management, so data are needed on how common management activities affect bird communities. I studied managed loblolly pine systems in the South …
Methane Oxidation Potential Of Uncomposted Yard Waste As A Landfill Biocover, Gomathy Radhakrishna Iyer
Methane Oxidation Potential Of Uncomposted Yard Waste As A Landfill Biocover, Gomathy Radhakrishna Iyer
Civil Engineering Dissertations - Archive
Biocovers are widely used in landfills to oxidize emissions of the greenhouse gas methane. Biocovers used till date are fully or partially made of composts. Compost takes time and effort to create, and costs about $10 per cubic yard on an average. Even more importantly, however, production of compost, although theoretically an aerobic process, actually generates methane, from 3.2 to 362 kg CO2-equivalents per ton of wet waste composted, depending on the type of waste, whether open or enclosed composting technology is used, and other factors. To reduce the net greenhouse gas emissions from biocovers, this research explores the potential …

Novel Infrastructure Monitoring Using Multifaceted Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems - Close Range Photogrammetry (Uav - Crp) Data Analysis, Surya Sarat Chandra Congress
Civil Engineering Dissertations - Archive
Remote sensing is a method of collecting data without making any physical contact with the object under inspection. Modern day remote sensing kicked off with the invention of the camera and continued on to the invention of advanced satellite mounted sensors. Photogrammetry is defined as a science that measures distances using one or more images captured remotely. Remote collection of images within a range of 1000 ft is termed close-range photogrammetry (CRP). Unmanned aerial vehicle systems (UAV or UAS) have become a popular means of remotely gathering information and assessing infrastructure conditions due to their versatile nature. Multirotor and fixed-wing …
Utilization Of Geocell-Reinforced Rap Material Base Layer In Flexible Pavements: Experimental And Numerical Studies, Anu Muthumala George
Utilization Of Geocell-Reinforced Rap Material Base Layer In Flexible Pavements: Experimental And Numerical Studies, Anu Muthumala George
Civil Engineering Dissertations - Archive
Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) materials have been considered as one of the most sustainable and cost-effective options in the pavement industry. The use of RAP materials in pavement construction reduces natural resources depletion and the volume of construction debris discarded into the landfills. However, the low shear strength and high permanent deformation (PD) of RAP materials often limit their application in road bases. Utilization of mechanical stabilizers, such as geocell, for stabilizing RAP bases, have found to be effective in improving the pavement performance. The main objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geocell …

Development Of The Urban Passenger Transportation Life Cycle Inventory For Comparison Across Modes Model (Transportlifecamm), Alma Angelica Hernandez Ruiz
Civil Engineering Dissertations - Archive
Against the backdrop of the increasingly complex urban passenger transportation challenges associated with megacities during the 21st century, and the effort to find the most sustainable modes of transportation for them, the spreadsheet-based model TransportLifeCAMM was developed. This model allows users in the US and Mexico to compare life cycle environmental impacts from automobile, bus, and/or subway. While other models to estimate environmental burdens from transportation exist, few of them consider emissions or energy consumption over the entire life cycle of the vehicle and the fuel (including vehicle manufacture, fuel production, maintenance, and end-of-life disposal). Furthermore, even fewer of the …
