Effectiveness Of Conservation Education At The Chattanooga Zoo, Luke Allen Black Dec 2017

Effectiveness Of Conservation Education At The Chattanooga Zoo, Luke Allen Black

Honors Theses

Conservation is the central focus of many modern zoos and aquariums. These zoos incorporate guest education to facilitate a connection between zoo guests and animal conservation. I conducted a study at the Chattanooga Zoo and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga which examined two modern zoo education approaches. The two approaches utilized in the study are currently used in keeper chats at the Chattanooga Zoo. The first approach is an emotional appeal (an appeal to the personalities of the chimps at the zoo) and the second approach is a utilization of a take-action initiative (recycling cell phones to reduce mining …

The Paradox Of Privilege: Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J., Relational-Cultural Theory, And The Expansion Of The Margins, Linda Land-Closson

Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal

Drawing heavily upon an interview with Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J., this article uses Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT), a model of psychological development, to explore how privilege typically functions paradoxically to disadvantage those with privilege. RCT’s critique of prescriptive models of psychological development reveals how standards of self-sufficiency and independence necessitate disconnection within relationships, and this article explores how these prescriptive ideals intersect with privilege. After developing this critical understanding of privilege and exploring RCT as an alternative, descriptive model of psychological development, the article then turns to Homeboy Industries as an example of how to work in the margins in descriptive …

The success of a business is often determined by the economic status it has built itself to, or the magnitude of its renowned distinction across society. The topic of CSR is often overlooked as a minor aspect of helping the business grow.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be characterized into many facets. Some, when thinking of the topic, will think of giving back to its community. Others will associate it with keeping a modest supply chain or healthy working conditions (Agaard, Valente, & Rasmussen, 2007). Either way, any instance where a business acts on social activism and producing for the …

Grand Juries And Cases Of Police Use Of Deadly Force: Are Prosecutors Opening A Closed Door?, Joseph P. Conti

Journal of Criminal Justice and Law

In recent years, considerable national attention has been focused upon cases in which police officers used deadly force that resulted in the death of private citizens. The officers often contended that the use of deadly force was justified under the circumstances. Prosecutors then presented these cases to grand juries to determine whether criminal prosecutions were warranted. Some prosecutors have elected to provide full grand jury reviews that include the presentation of exculpatory evidence or at least evidence favorable to the police. Although prosecutors have no constitutional obligation to provide such reviews, those who elect to provide full grand jury reviews …

Revenue And Distributional Impact Analysis Of Indonesian Personal Income Tax Reform In 2008, Bimo Wijayanto, Yogi Vidyattama

Economics and Finance in Indonesia

Since 1983, Indonesian tax policy has been the subject of ongoing reforms in order to replace the old colonial tax arrangements, reduce income dependency from oil and gas, decrease the government's foreign debt and maintain its fiscal sustainability. Nevertheless, after 25 years of reform, actual Indonesian tax performance is still far from what might have been expected as Indonesia have one of the lowest total tax ratios among the ASEAN countries. This research show that the most recent changes put in place may have reduced potential tax revenue from personal income but an increase in the compliance rate.
