Ms. Radwan (Saudi Arabia) (spoke in Arabic): My delegation joined in the consensus adoption of resolution 72/75 to provide assistance in mine action because we believe in the importance of the issue and the need to provide assistance to the United Nations Mine Action Service and the Inter-Agency Coordination Group on Mine Action. At the same time, we deeply denounce the provision of $14 million to what the report called the Ministry of Education of Yemen, which is an entity affiliated with the Houthi rebel militias, who are planting thousands of mines within Yemen and along the borders of …

The Interest Is Not Mutual: Effect Of The Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth) On Contractual Rights Of Set-Off, Caroline Woo
The University of Notre Dame Australia Law Review
In Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd v Forge Group Power Pty Ltd (In Liquidation) (Receivers and Managers Appointed), the Supreme Court of Western Australia held that the rights of ANZ, a secured creditor of Forge Group Power Pty Ltd (Forge) holding a security interest under the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth) (PPSA), trumped Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd’s rights of contractual and equitable set-off. Forge is in receivership and in liquidation. In answering the preliminary issues in dispute between the parties, the Supreme Court examined the complex interaction between contractual and equitable rights, the PPSA and section 553C of the Corporations …
Running From Behind: Nelson Rockefeller And The Liberal Republicans During The 1964 Republican Primaries, Christopher Eller
Running From Behind: Nelson Rockefeller And The Liberal Republicans During The 1964 Republican Primaries, Christopher Eller
Graduate Theses
This thesis seeks to examine if the conservative victory in the 1964 Republican presidential primaries was inevitable. Based on archival research, primary source materials, and secondary source materials, it is concluded that conservative candidate Barry Goldwater faced numerous instances when his campaign could have been defeated by Republican challengers, campaign blunders, and internal party factions. This thesis focuses on liberal Republican Nelson Rockefeller’s campaign with the intention of articulating the fracturing of the Republican Party in the early 1960s. Rockefeller’s quest for the nomination is emblematic of the changing nature of presidential politics in the post-World War II era leading …

Does Browsing Matter? : Predation And Population Declines In The Federally Endangered Schweinitz's Sunflower (Helianthus Schweinitzii T&G), Bryan Benson England Iii
Graduate Theses
Herbivory is a ubiquitous ecological process, yet its importance to plant community ecology and conservation biology is controversial. When Schweinitz's sunflower (Helianthus schweinitzii T&G) was listed as a federally endangered species in 1991, "Predation and Parasitism" were considered "not applicable" as threats, and it was the lack of large herbivores that was repeatedly identified as a threat to this species' survival. Two decades later, persistent negative population trends in many protected populations and anecdotal reports of "heavy browse pressure from white-tailed deer" led to suggestions that herbivory by deer could be impeding the recovery of this species. To test for …

Live Synchronous Web Meetings In Asynchronous Online Courses: Reconceptualizing Virtual Office Hours, Patrick R. Lowenthal, Joanna C. Dunlap, Chareen Snelson
Educational Technology Faculty Publications and Presentations
Most online courses rely solely on asynchronous text-based online communication. This type of communication can foster anytime, anywhere reflection, critical thinking, and deep learning. However, it can also frustrate participants because of the lack of spontaneity and visual cues and the time it takes for conversations to develop and feedback to be shared, as well as the self-directedness and discipline it requires of participants to regularly check in and monitor discussions over time. Synchronous forms of communication can address some of these constraints. However, online educators often avoid using synchronous forms of communication in their courses, because of its own …

Sport Experiences Of Division I Collegiate Athletes And Their Perceptions Of The Importance Of Specialization, Eric M. Martin, Martha E. Ewing, Evelyn Oregon
Kinesiology Faculty Publications and Presentations
The purpose of the current study was to investigate Division I athletes’ prior sport participation and athletes’ perceptions regarding sport specialization. Athletes (N = 1041) completed self-report surveys and indicated that participation in their collegiate sport began around nine years of age (M = 9.10, SD = 3.83). Athletes played a large number of sports in elementary and middle school with participation decreasing during high school. For those athletes who specialized in one sport, specialization occurred typically at 12.5 years of age. In addition, athletes past sport background and perceptions of specialization differed depending on their college sport with …

The video opens with a man, William Reed, standing on his porch and the people around him singing happy birthday. He jokes about his age and then talks about guessing what the present might be. There are voices off camera saying, “Don’t guess,” and “You’re gonna guess wrong.” He replies, “Really?” Then begins unwrapping the present. He removes a box from a brightly colored bag filled with tissue paper. He then struggles to open the box because of the packing tape. Someone teases him for taking a while, “You’re just slow cause of your age.” The group laughs and …

Increase In The Reduction Potential Of Uranyl Upon Interaction With Graphene Oxide Surfaces, V. N. Bliznyuk, N. Conroy, Y. Xie, R. Podila, A. Rao, Brian A. Powell

Coordination of uranyl (U(VI)) with carboxylate groups on functionalized graphene oxide (GO) surfaces has been shown to alter the reduction potential of the sorbed uranium ion. A quantitative measure of the reduction potential and qualitative estimation of sorption/desorption processes were conducted using cyclic voltammetry, and the proposed coordination environment was determined using the surface sensitive attenuated total reflection mode of infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). GO is a nanostructured material possessing a large amount of oxygen-containing functional groups both on basal planes and at the edges, which can form strong surface complexes with radionuclides. The presence of these functional groups on the …
