Ion Parallel Closures, Jeong-Young Ji, Hankyu Q. Lee, Eric D. Held Dec 2017

Ion Parallel Closures, Jeong-Young Ji, Hankyu Q. Lee, Eric D. Held

All Physics Faculty Publications

Ion parallel closures are obtained for arbitrary atomic weights and charge numbers. For arbitrary collisionality, the heat flow and viscosity are expressed as kernel-weighted integrals of the temperature and flow-velocity gradients. Simple, fitted kernel functions are obtained from the 1600 parallel moment solution and the asymptotic behavior in the collisionless limit. The fitted kernel parameters are tabulated for various temperature ratios of ions to electrons. The closures can be used conveniently without solving the kinetic equation or higher order moment equations in closing ion fluid equations.

An Analysis Of Factors Leading To The Success Of Female Superintendents In P-12 Public Schools In Arkansas, Juanita Samantha Mitchell Dec 2017

An Analysis Of Factors Leading To The Success Of Female Superintendents In P-12 Public Schools In Arkansas, Juanita Samantha Mitchell

Theses and Dissertations from 2017

The purpose of this study was to examine the history of women in the superintendency and the best practices that they have used to weather challenging conflicts to remain in the position. The research question that guided this study was: To what do successful female superintendents in Arkansas attribute their success? This qualitative research ascertained the factors needed for female superintendents in Arkansas to have long-lasting careers in that role, if they desire. Creswell (2012) recommends that for qualitative research data analysis, the researcher should arrange and structure the data, code the data, and represent the data. The data collected …

Testing For The Presence Of Botryosphaeria Dothidea In Ceanothus Spinosus, Brandon R. Grinovich, Chelsea N. Puncochar, Katarina L. Carter, Stephen D. Davis, Rodney L. Honeycutt, Talia A. Cao, Karagan L. Smith

Featured Research

Botryosphaeria dothidea is an opportunistic fungus found in some of the cavitated branches of the vegetation in the Santa Monica Mountains. In this study, we focused on finding the presence of Botryosphaeria dothidea in Ceanothus spinosus located on Pepperdine University’s campus. We wanted to test this hypothesis because we observed a large amount of dieback in the Ceanothus spinosus population and wanted to identify a possible contributor. Because of the large number of cavitated branches the Ceanothus spinosus contained, we hypothesized they contained fungus. To test this, we took twenty samples of twenty different Ceanothus spinosus, isolated the fungus …

Equalizing Exactions, Sarah Schindler Dec 2017

Equalizing Exactions, Sarah Schindler

Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship

Some exactions are just bad. By this, I mean that they fail to mitigate the harms they were created to internalize. This struck me recently while I was researching privately owned public open spaces (POPOS), which are often exacted in exchange for a density bonus. Through my research, I determined that POPOS often fail to achieve the goals of good public space, in part because they are often exclusionary. I found myself wondering whether the citizens who were stuck with new dense buildings that block light and air, and who received only a poorly functioning POPOS in exchange, had any …
