Mining Maximal Cliques Through An Intuitionistic Fuzzy Graph, S. Venkatesh, S. Sujatha Jul 2017

Mining Maximal Cliques Through An Intuitionistic Fuzzy Graph, S. Venkatesh, S. Sujatha

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper deals with an inspiring and real-world problem of mining maximal cliques in an intuitionistic fuzzy graph G where the edges are weighted by the degrees of membership together with non-membership values. By using fuzzy cuts ( α , β ) such that 0 ≤ αβ ≤ 1, a modified concept of C αβ maximal clique is proposed in an intuitionistic fuzzy graph. To find C αβ maximal cliques in an intuitionistic fuzzy graph, we present an effective mining algorithm based on this C αβ is introduced.

Free Will's Enormous Cost: Why Retribution, Grounded In Free Will, Is An Invalid And Impractical Penal Goal, Matthew D. Moyer Jul 2017

Free Will's Enormous Cost: Why Retribution, Grounded In Free Will, Is An Invalid And Impractical Penal Goal, Matthew D. Moyer

Notre Dame Law Review

The lack of free will in human experience causes clear problems for criminal punishment. Free will is a central assumption of retribution; without the free choice to tear the moral fabric of society, one’s actions cannot warrant that she receives punishment. For its invalidity and cost, retribution should not be used as a penological goal in the creation of laws or sentencing. Utilitarian goals, aimed at the social good, should be used in retribution’s place.

A Novel Iterative Numerical Algorithm For The Solutions Of Systems Of Fuzzy Initial Value Problems, Omar Abu Arqub, Shaher Momani, Saleh Al-Mezel, Marwan Kutbi

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

Behaviors of many dynamic systems with uncertainty can be modelled effectively by systems of fuzzy differential equations. In this paper, we develop new numerical iterative method for solving systems of fuzzy initial value problems based on the reproducing kernel theory under the assumption of Hukuhara differentiability. The exact and approximate solutions are given with series form in terms of their parametric form, where two smooth reproducing kernel functions are used throughout the evolution of the algorithm to obtain the required nodal values. Furthermore, error estimation is proved in order to capture the behavior of fuzzy solutions. Applicability, potentiality, and efficiency …

A Systems Theory Approach To The District Central Office’S Role In School-Level Improvement, Jackie Mania-Singer

Administrative Issues Journal

This qualitative case study used General Systems Theory and social network analysis to explore the relationships between the members of a district central office and principals of elementary schools within an urban school district in the Midwest. Findings revealed sparse relationships between members of the district central office and principals, more opportunities for higher performing schools to participate in decision making, and few opportunities for all schools to provide feedback to the district, resulting in a centralized network structure that may inhibit the transfer of knowledge and communication, and ultimately, hinder school-level improvement efforts.

Openness And Protection: A Philosophical Analysis Of The Placenta's Mediatory Role In Co-‐Constituting Emergent Intertwined Identities, Marjolein Oele Jul 2017

Openness And Protection: A Philosophical Analysis Of The Placenta's Mediatory Role In Co-‐Constituting Emergent Intertwined Identities, Marjolein Oele

Philosophy

This paper analyzes the placenta's biological and ontological underpinnings in human affectivity as it is generated. The placenta as medial boundary constitutes a place for the encounter and becoming of mother and child, not only as sapient beings, but also in their very nature. Before and beyond the difference between self and other, the placenta offers a model of affective symbiogenesis where selves come into existence in and through the very materiality of one another, contradicting the presumed "immunitary logic of selfpreservation."

The section on placental (re)presentation crafts a placentology that accounts for the possibility of ontogenetic becoming in the …

A Statistical Investigation Of Lower Columbia River Water Temperature, 1915-2003, Corina Christina Mae Overman

Civil and Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

The Columbia River is home to anadromous salmon populations that migrate upriver every year to spawn. These fish require cool water temperatures (Tw) to survive. In recent years, high summer Tw in the Columbia River has caused increased mortality of salmon. Different possible explanations for increased Tw include climate change, deforestation, and decreased summertime streamflow (Q) due to dams. In this study, robust linear regression models of Tw based on air temperature (Ta) and Q were developed to examine the change in Tw over time. The data was …

Toward Transformative Gender Justice: Listening To ̶G̶E̶N̶D̶E̶R̶ ̶N̶O̶N̶-̶B̶I̶N̶A̶R̶Y̶ Individuals' Experiences Of School, Katherine Lewis

Education | Faculty Authored Dissertations and Theses

The primary purpose of this study is to investigate and understand gender diverse individuals’ retrospective accounts of their experiences of school and to interpret these experiences under the influence of deconstruction. A second purpose is to use these experiences to inform a model of gender-inclusive education.

In this qualitative study, semi-structured interviewing served as the primary method of inquiry. Eight gender non-binary adult participants were purposefully selected and individually interviewed. The participants were asked to describe their gendered experiences in K-12 schools. The secondary method of inquiry was a focus group interview in which seven participants were asked to offer …

Genetic Analysis Of Distinct Clades Of Plethodon Cinereus At A Secondary Contact Zone In Northeast Ohio, Brian Waldron Jul 2017

Genetic Analysis Of Distinct Clades Of Plethodon Cinereus At A Secondary Contact Zone In Northeast Ohio, Brian Waldron

Masters Theses

Contact zones between species, subspecies, or incipient lineages offer important insights into the processes that maintain reproductive isolation. Plethodon cinereus, a highly abundant and wide-ranging terrestrial salamander found in the northeast United States and southeast Canada, provides an excellent model system for studying secondary contact zones. Using mtDNA, six distinct clades have been identified across the range of P. cinereus. Populations of two such clades, the Ohio (OH) clade, which dispersed through central Ohio following receding glaciers of the last glacial maximum, and the Pennsylvania (PA) clade, which dispersed through Pennsylvania and then west through northern Ohio, can be found …

The Influence Of Matrix Contrast On Species Richness In Fragmented Landscapes, Ian Reider Jul 2017

The Influence Of Matrix Contrast On Species Richness In Fragmented Landscapes, Ian Reider

Masters Theses

Habitat destruction is the leading threat to biodiversity worldwide, causing once continuous landscapes to become fragmented and isolated and harming the persistence of biodiversity. Our goal was to determine how species richness in fragmented forest landscapes is influenced by the vegetation density of the surrounding matrix. We gathered existing studies of fragmented landscapes with Species Area Relationship (SAR) data and analyzed the landscape vegetation in each study site using satellite imagery in ArcGIS. We investigated to see how contrast between vegetation density in matrix versus forested habitat areas correlated to the strength of the SAR for the 45 study landscapes …

The Polarization Of Reproductive And Parental Decision-Making, Jamie R. Abrams Jul 2017

The Polarization Of Reproductive And Parental Decision-Making, Jamie R. Abrams

Florida State University Law Review

Women’s abortion and parental decision-making in child rearing are constructed as polarized methods of decision-making in law, politics, and society. Women’s abortion decision-making is understood as myopic and individualistic. Parental decision-making is understood as sacrificial and selfless. This polarization leaves reproductive decision-making isolated, marginalized, and vulnerable while parental decision-making is essentialized, protected, and revered. Both framings are inaccurate and problematic. A unified family decision-making framework that aligns abortion decision-making and parental decision-making reveals that both forms of decision-making are more multi-dimensional, relational, and family-centered than currently understood. This Article exposes the ground to be gained by crossing longstanding boundaries in …
