Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Mycosporine-2-glycine (M2G) is a rare UV-screening compound in a group of mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs). This molecule is found in only two cyanobacteria; Euhalothece sp. LK-1 and Aphanothece halophytica (Halothece sp. PCC 7418). The structure of M2G composed of 4-deoxygadusol as a core structure, attached by 2 molecules of glycine at C1 and C3 positions. M2G has a maximal adsorption at 331 nm and a better antioxidative activity than other MAAs. Thus, it is interesting in determination of other activities for further cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical applications. In this study, a high purity M2G was successfully extracted and purified from Halothece …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Background and Objective: Besides closing the wound by intrinsic properties like migration and proliferation, gingival fibroblasts produce a major source of extracellular matrix especially collagen and play a major role in oral wound healing. Vitamin C or L-ascorbic acid has diverse functions in the body, including an essential role in hydroxylation reactions which is necessary for collagen formation. Whether L-ascorbic acid can promote gingival wound healing through inducing proliferation of fibroblasts is of our interest. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of L-ascorbic acid on gingival fibroblasts behaviors to promote wound healing in vitro. Materials and …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

After tooth loss, a consequent atrophy of the alveolar process always takes place and adversely affect the reconstruction process especially by dental implant. A novel chitosan/dicarboxylic acid scaffold (CS/DA scaffold) has been developed and proven to be an excellent candidate material in bone tissue engineering. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a CS/DA scaffold with and without seeded primary human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) in mouse calvarial defect model. Eighteen mice were divided into 3 groups of 6 each. Four-millimeter calvarial defects were created on both side of parietal bone and implanted with either CS/DA scaffold or CS/DA …

Induction Of S100a7 Expression From Mechanical Stress-Induced Human Dental Pulp Cells And Its Effect On Osteoclastogenesis, Hataichanok Charoenpong

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Mechanical injuries of dental pulp tissues could lead to root resorption by osteoclast/odontoclast. S100A7 has been demonstrated to involve in inflammatory processes and potentially involved in bone destruction. However, the roles of S100A7 in dental pulp have not been reported. Therefore, this this study aimed to investigate the effect of mechanical stress on S100A7 expression in human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) and to investigate the effect of S100A7 protein on osteoclast differentiation. HDPCs were stimulated with in vitro compressive loading. Cell viability was determined using MTT assay. Real-time PCR (qPCR) and ELISA were utilized to determine the mRNA and protein …

The Application Of Prostacyclin In Promoting Angiogenesis Of Dental Pulp Tissue In A Three Dimensional Organ Culture System, Sonntana Seang

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Background: Dental pulp vitality can be threatened by carious or iatrogenic exposure that can lead to pulp tissue loss. The formation of a vascular network is crucial to provide a suitable environment for tissue regeneration. Thus, promoting angiogenesis is essential for successful pulpal repair in regenerative endodontics therapy. Iloprost, a prostacyclin analog, promotes vascularization in several organs such as, heart, lung, and corneal. Previously, it has been demonstrated that, iloprost induced pulpal blood flow and enhanced dentin formation in a rat mechanical pulp exposure model. However, the angiogenic effect of iloprost on the human dental pulp vasculature remains unknown. Objective: …

Differential Dendritic Cell Responses To Candida Species, Thu Nguyen Ngoc Jan 2017

Differential Dendritic Cell Responses To Candida Species, Thu Nguyen Ngoc

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Mannan in the outermost layer of Candida cell wall may be the first molecules that interact with host dendritic cells (DCs) and activate immune responses that determine disease outcomes. However, little is known how different mannan structures of common Candida species affect DC activation and T cell responses. Thus, this work compared the effects of mannans of Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida glabrata, Candida krusei, Candida parapsilosis and Candida dubliniensis on bone marrow-derived DC (BMDC) responses in mice. C. albicans and C. tropicalis mannan could not activate DC maturation, however, they induced IFN-gamma production which consequently provoked Th1 responses. C. …

Molecular Dynamics Of Single-Wall Carbon Nanotube Wrapped With Polypropylene, Wanwisa Panman

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Nowadays, the nanocomposite materials have been widely used in various applications due to their unique properties such as thermal and electrical properties. Polymer/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposite is one the important nanocomposite materials that are manufactured for improving thermal conductivity and electrical properties of polymers. Unfortunately, polypropylene (PP)/CNT preparation is difficult because of CNT dispersion and aggregation. Accordingly, amylose (AMY) and chitosan (CS) are selected in the present study in order to demonstrate how AMY and CS could diminish such problems by non-covalent modification on outer surface of single-walled CNT using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The MD results reveal that AMY …

The Inflammatory Response Of Epithelial Cell To Corrosion Products From Recast Palladium -Silver Alloy, Verapol Singkarlsiri

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In dentistry, there is an increase in alternative metals such as palladium or silver to add into noble metal alloys in order to improve properties and reduce cost. Apart from using other metals to replace gold or platinum, reuse is another way to save the cost. There are many studies on the recast dental alloys on mechanical properties and how many percentages of new alloys needed to add in the recasting process. It has been well accepted that amount of new and used alloys would affect the mechanical and physical properties. The biocompatibility of the alloys, however, has not been …
