This research was aimed to isolate, select and apply bacteriocin producing halophilic bacteria from salty fermented foods, Plara (Thai traditional salty fermented fish) and soya sauce as bio-control agent in foods. The isolates having inhibitory activity against different strains of Staphylococcus aureus were selected, identified and characterized prior to application as protective starter in food models. Bacterial communities of Plara and soya sauce samples were studied by two methods, a cultural dependent and cultural independent method (Reverse Transcriptase PCR DGGE (Rev-T PCR-DGGE)), and subsequently sequenced by 16s rDNA analysis. Contaminated soil with heavy metals includes Pb, Zn, and Cd were remediated by phytoremediation with vetiver to solved the problem in Thailand. This study compared the ability of two species of vetiver (i.e., Songkhla 3 and Prachuap Khiri Khan) in absorbing Pb, Zn, and Cd in contaminated soils and study the effect of EDTA application. The objective of this study is to prepare and modify parawood microcrystalline cellulose (PW-MCC) for applying as reinforced material for polypropylene composites. PW-MCC was prepared from parawood sawdust using acid hydrolysis method with pulp to acid ratio at 1:15 and temperature at 80oC for 2 hours. The obtained PW-MCC exhibited the cellulose type I with CrI at 60%. Moreover, PW-MCC had higher thermal stability than parawood sawdust. Macrophages respond to various stimuli, resulting in distinct effector phenotypes that range from LPS-stimulated proinflammatory to IL-4-activated pro-healing phenotype. The regulatory mechanism of this polarization is not fully understood. Notch signaling pathway is a conserved signaling pathway involved in polarization of macrophages, especially proinflammatory macrophages. However, the role of Notch signaling in IL-4 stimulated macrophages (M(IL-4)) is not well defined. Leptospirosis, caused by pathogenic Leptospira spp., is a global re-emerging zoonosis and endemic disease in tropical and sub-tropical countries including Thailand. Point-of-care testing (POCT) for rapid diagnosis of leptospirosis is needed for prompt and appropriate treatment particularly in resource-poor settings. Dengue virus causes a global burden that specific chemotherapy has not been established in a clinical setting. A previous report suggested that anacardic acid saturated (C15:0), a member of phenolic lipids, inhibited hepatitis C virus infection. Here, we explored structure activity relationship of phenolic lipids homologues with anti-DENV properties in the cell-based system. Our results indicated that Cardol triene (C15:3) expressed DENV1-4 inhibition, but not to Zika virus (SV0010/15) with the EC50s of 5.35 ± 1.16 µM, 7.13 ± 0.72 µM, 8.98 ± 1.77 µM, and 8.21 ± 0.34 µM, respectively. Rat model was used in this study in order to investigate subcellular vitamin D receptors (VDR) distribution and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) alteration in the lungs of emphysema development after cigarette smoke exposure for 7 days (acute) and 14 days (subacute). Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the etiological agent implicated cancers include those of the cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, anus, rectum and oropharynx. Currently, the Papanicolaou (Pap) smear is the recommended for cervical cancer screening but only a small percentage of women follow this screening. Overall, this thesis aimed to develop the technique and type of specimen to detect HPV DNA in Thai population and to characterize of the HPV genotypes in Thai patients with anogenital warts. CaCO3 NPs has received a growing interest due to its potential properties as a safe drug carrier. The LA-CaCO3 NPs were synthesized by a chemical precipitation method and characterized using transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and zeta potential measurement. We used LA-CaCO3 NPs to evaluate their therapeutic effects in lipid accumulation, lipolysis, adipogenesis, and adipokines expression in ADSCs and differentiated adipocytes. The average particle sizes were observed to be 10-20 nanometers. Thermogravimetric analysis results confirmed the percentages of LA in CaCO3 NPs. The zeta potential showed a negative charge -30.9 mV. To investigate the effects of genistein on estrogen deficiency with high-fat high-fructose (HFHF) diet-induced NASH rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats (n=48) were randomly divided into ovariectomized (OVX) and non-ovariectomized (non-OVX) group. Both rat groups, further allocated into 3 subgroups; controls, rats fed with HFHF diet (NASH), and rats fed with HFHF diet plus daily 16 mg/kg BW of genistein (NASH+Gen) for 8 weeks. Recently, much attention has been paid to natural plant-derived compounds as an alternative strategy for developing anti-obesity agents with minimal detrimental effects. Among various natural compounds, caffeine (1, 3, 7-trimethyl xanthine) and alpha lipoic acid (1, 2-dithiolane-3-pentanoic acid; LA) are the natural agents which show a promising result in decreasing fat deposit. Metabolic acidosis exerts several cellular and tissue dysfunctions, such as increases mineral bone and protein degradation, induces inflammation, oxidative stress and cell death. These complications lead to multiple organ failure, including chronic kidney disease. Sodium bicarbonate and Shohl's solution are commonly used to treat metabolic acidosis. Green microalgae are one of the natural resources for productions of various and beneficial bioactive compounds, such as UV-screening compounds and carotenoids. This study focuses on the changes of carotenoids and metabolisms in the green microalga Chlorococcum sp. 8367RE under stress conditions. The results showed that stresses by salt, light, drought, and nitrogen starvation affected on alterations of morphological characteristics. Interestingly, size of cells culturing under salt stresses dramatically increased. It should be noted that KCl stress caused the enlargement of cell sizes approximately 5 folds.
