Determination Of Height Profile From A Two-Dimensional Fringe Signal Using A Two-Dimensional Continuous Wavelet Transform, Özlem Kocahan Yilmaz
Determination Of Height Profile From A Two-Dimensional Fringe Signal Using A Two-Dimensional Continuous Wavelet Transform, Özlem Kocahan Yilmaz
Turkish Journal of Physics
The main objective of this study was 3-dimensional (3D) profile measurements with standard fringe projection, consisting of a CCD and a projector. For obtaining height information of objects pixel by pixel, phases have to be calculated from the images taken by the fringe projection technique. In this study, the 2-dimensional continuous wavelet transform (2D CWT) phase method was used for phase extraction. 1D and 2D CWT analyses of noisy images were compared in simulations performed for a 2-dimensional fringe signal by introducing the carrier frequencies in two spatial directions, $x $ and $y$. Profile measurement of an object was made …
Comparison Of Structural Properties Of Some Liquid Crystals, Emi̇ne Mi̇ne Çapar
Comparison Of Structural Properties Of Some Liquid Crystals, Emi̇ne Mi̇ne Çapar
Turkish Journal of Physics
Molecular dynamics simulations were performed for three liquid crystalline molecules, 4-cyano-4$'$-octyloxybip- henyl (8OCB), n-p-cyanobenzylidene-p-octyloxyaniline (CBOOA), and p-n-hexyloxybenzylidene-p$'$-aminobenzonitrile (HBAB). Simulation data were obtained for three liquid crystals in the nematic and isotropic phases to analyze their structural properties. The imine spacer group in the Schiff bases induces a stepped core structure in which the linearity is maintained. The distributions of the angles between some defined vectors imply that the core segments of CBOOA and HBAB are more floppy than the 8OCB core. The biaxialities, molecular dimensions, and molecular anisotropies were calculated. The results were compared for three mesogens in the nematic …

An Age-Structured Model For The Transmission Dynamics Of Hepatitis B: Asymptotic Analysis, Rodrigue Yves M'Pika Makoussou, Aboubakari Traore
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we consider the age-structured model for the transmission dynamics of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) proposed earlier in the article by Zou et al.: An age-structured model for transmission dynamics of hepatitis B. SIAM J Appl Math 2010; 70: 3121-3139, where a slight modification is made. We consider that the HBV infection processes act on a time scale different from that of the vital processes. Such a model becomes a multiple time scale model and thus it often can be significantly simplified by various asymptotic methods. We apply, as in the paper of Banasiak and M'pika Massoukou: A …

Mri Image Enhancement Using Biot-Savart Law At 3 Tesla, Yunus Emre Esi̇n, Ferda Nur Alpaslan
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Coil sensitivity is considered as the most valuable data in the parallel reconstruction of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In this study, a novel coil sensitivity map extraction method is introduced for spatially fixed phased array coils. The proposed technique uses the Biot--Savart law with coil internal shape information and low-resolution phase image data to form sensitivity maps. The performance of this method is tested in a parallel image reconstruction task, using the sensitivity-encoding (SENSE) technique. Under the quasi-static assumption and using the duality principle, we computed the sensitivity maps of a phased-array head coil and reconstructed full FOV images. The …

Background/aim: The pathogenesis of Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) has not yet been fully elucidated. RP is characterized by exaggerated cold-induced vasoconstriction. Urotensin II (UII) is a potent vasoconstrictor. The aim of the present study was to evaluate plasma UII levels in both primary RP and secondary RP associated with systemic sclerosis (SSc).Materials and methods: Fifteen patients with primary RP, 30 patients with RP secondary to SSc, and 30 healthy controls (HC) were included in the study. Raynaud condition scores (RCS) were determined in the primary RP and SSc groups. Modified Rodnan skin score (MRSS) was determined for the SSc patients. Plasma …

Background/aim: Nasal polyposis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the paranasal sinuses and nasal mucosae. It is thought that genetic and molecular mechanisms in inflammatory and apoptotic pathways are the main factors in the etiopathogenesis of nasal polyposis. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression patterns of CD11b, galectin-1, beclin-1, and caspase-3 in nasal polyps.Materials and methods: The mRNA expression levels of CD11b, galectin-1, beclin-1, and caspase-3 protein and western blot analysis of caspase-3 protein were evaluated in inferior turbinate mucosae and nasal polyp tissues. Results: CD11b expression was markedly higher in nasal polyp tissues when compared to …

Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the concordance of immunohistochemical (IHC) parameters of breast lesions between the core needle biopsy (CNB) and the surgical resection specimen. Materials and methods: CNB and resection specimens of female patients were retrospectively analyzed. ER, PR, HER-2, and Ki-67 parameters were compared for each patient. A total of 284 cases were assessed. Forty-one and 48 cases were excluded from the HER-2 and Ki-67 examinations, respectively, because the CNBs did not allow for IHC. Results: Concordance rates were 93.3% for ER, 89.4% for PR, 90.1% for HER-2, and 80.9% for Ki-67.Conclusion: CNB is …

Background/aim: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a chronic complex autoimmune disease. Genetic and environmental factors increase the risk of JIA. It is accepted that alterations in immune system pathways play an important role in the pathogenesis of JIA. The aim of the study was to investigate the possible association between immune system regulatory gene polymorphisms and JIA in Turkish patients. Materials and methods: We analyzed eight polymorphisms, TNF-alpha-863 C > A, TNFRII 196 T > G, IL2-631 G > A, IL13-1112 C > T, CCR2 190 G > A, CCR5delta32, CTLA4-1661 A > G, and PTPN22 1858 C > T, in 76 patients with JIA and in …
