Colorimetric Detection Of Cysteine Using Silver-Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles, Retno Prasetia Jan 2017

Colorimetric Detection Of Cysteine Using Silver-Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles, Retno Prasetia

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Cysteine is a sulphur-containing amino acid that acts as an effective antioxidant in human body. An excessive amount of cysteine leads to cystine formation that causes the stone formation in kidney, bladder, and ureters. A new method was developed for detection of cysteine in urine samples based on the aggregation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on Hydroxyapatite (HAp) in the presence of cysteine. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) was used to observe the morphology of prepared HAp and AgNPs on HAp. The presence of cysteine of different concentrations resulted in different cluster sizes of AgNPs on HAp and hence different solid color. …

Colorimetric Determination Of Thiocyanate Ion Using Modified Polymer Resins, Sujinda Khaosaard

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

A new method for thiocyanate determination in milk samples based on the formation of dithiocyanato dipyridine copper(II) [Cu(SCN)2(Py)2] complex on polymer resin surface is proposed. Amberlite XAD-7 resin on was modified with copper-pyridine complex and used as the material for detection. The color of resin changed from blue to green with the increase of thiocyanate concentration. It could be observed by naked-eye and the color intensity used as quantitative data was measured via Image-J software. The effect of various parameters was investigated including Cu2+ concentration, time for resin modification with reagents, sample volume, detection time and pyridine volume. Under the …

Metabolic Responses Of Aspergillus Niger Es4 To Ethanol Stress, Wimonsiri Kongchai Jan 2017

Metabolic Responses Of Aspergillus Niger Es4 To Ethanol Stress, Wimonsiri Kongchai

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Aspergillus niger ES4 is a fungus isolated from the top wall of an ethanol tank of the PTT public company limited. Because normally, microorganism cannot tolerate high amount of ethanol, the growth of A. niger ES4 on the ethanol tank indicates the special properties of this fungal strain in response to ethanol. This research was therefore aimed at studying the effects of ethanol on the metabolites production of A. niger ES4 by using both untargeted and targeted metabolomics. When A. niger ES4 cultures were grown in minimal media containing 4% of ethanol for 3 days, A. niger ES4 responded to …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

As the world population ages, neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease, are becoming a major public health concern with increasing incidence and prevalence worldwide while no cure currently exists. To challenge this situation, herbal medicine may provide a potential alternative treatment as use of natural-derived substances has been proven to be effective in the prevention and/or treatment of several diseases. During the past decades, increasing evidence has implicated excessive glutamate levels in the pathway of neuronal cell death. Thailand is a place known for cultivating a variety of tropical plants and herbs, so far many of them have never been examined …

Role Of Progesterone Receptor A And B Isoforms In Lung Neuroendocrine Tumors, Teeranut Asavasupreechar

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Lung neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) incidences are increasing in recent years. Women with lung NETs have significantly better survival rates as compared to men suggesting the involvement of sex steroids and their receptors in the progression of lung NETs. Recent data suggested that progesterone receptor (PR) may play a role in the survival of lung NET patients. PR exists as two major isoforms, PRA and PRB. How expression of PR isoforms affects proliferation of lung NETs and patient's survival is not known. To determine the role of PR isoforms in lung NETs, we constructed H727 lung NET cell models expressing PRB …

Preparation And Antimicrobial Activity Of Olive Oil Nanoemulsions, Kusuma Jaemsak

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Due to their health benefits including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and also antimicrobial activities, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) has received much attention in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. Nanoemulsions (NEs) solubilize and increase absorption and bioavailability of lipophilic substances (i.e. olive oil). However, there is insufficient data in the formation of olive oil NEs. This study aimed to investigate the formation of oil-in-water NEs containing EVOO using low-energy approach and high-energy approach. NEs were characterized for size, polydispersity and zeta potential after storage at different conditions for up to 180 days. They were determined for antimicrobial susceptibility. From the result, NEs …

Evaluation Of Lipid Accumulation And Lipolysis Activity In Human Subcutaneous Adipocytes And Human Visceral Adipocytes By Α-Lipoic Acid, Α-Lipoic Acid-Incorporated Caco3 Nanoparticles And Caffeine., Sunisa Kaewdang

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Recently, much attention has been paid to natural plant-derived compounds as an alternative strategy for developing anti-obesity agents with minimal detrimental effects. Among various natural compounds, caffeine (1, 3, 7-trimethyl xanthine) and alpha lipoic acid (1, 2-dithiolane-3-pentanoic acid; LA) are the natural agents which show a promising result in decreasing fat deposit. Moreover, we have improved efficiencies of LA by CaCO3 NPs because LA had low bioavailability. In the present study, we investigated the effect of combination between caffeine and LA-CaCO3 NPs in lipid accumulation reduction and lipolysis stimulation in human subcutaneous adipocytes and human visceral adipocytes. Our results showed …

Effect Of Calcium Citrate In Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles On Hk-2 Cells In Acidic Environment, Tipagorn Udomsinsirikul Jan 2017

Effect Of Calcium Citrate In Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles On Hk-2 Cells In Acidic Environment, Tipagorn Udomsinsirikul

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Metabolic acidosis exerts several cellular and tissue dysfunctions, such as increases mineral bone and protein degradation, induces inflammation, oxidative stress and cell death. These complications lead to multiple organ failure, including chronic kidney disease. Sodium bicarbonate and Shohl's solution are commonly used to treat metabolic acidosis. However, these agents cause frequent gastrointestinal adverse effects. Hence, we invented the new calcium carbonate nanoparticles to use as a drug delivery system for carrying citrate to renal cell which we hypothesize to reduce adverse effects of metabolic acidosis. We studied the physical characteristics and pharmacological effects of calcium citrate nanoparticle (Cacit) and calcium …
