Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The next generation of wireless transmission technology 5G is expected to support the development of high frequency channel models, so the interpretation of high frequency bands is the most important issue in radio propagation research. In this paper, multiple urban microcellular measurements have been carried out at 80 GHz. The collected data is uniformly analyzed to compare the simulation results of 5G MIMO models with the proposed algorithms using network Downlink Essentials 5G MIMO LTE-A and MIMO-OFDM. The 4 × 4 MIMO is an inwardly influential and 8 × 8 MIMO has accuracy of 89% for the frequencies 100 MHz …
Minimizing Handover Delay And Maximizing Throughput By Heterogeneous Handover Algorithm (Hha) In Telecommunication Networks, M. Phemina Selvi, S. Sendhilnathan
Minimizing Handover Delay And Maximizing Throughput By Heterogeneous Handover Algorithm (Hha) In Telecommunication Networks, M. Phemina Selvi, S. Sendhilnathan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Handover mechanism plays a vital role in the wireless telecommunication networks. The process of transferring the control of Mobile Terminal (MT)/Mobile Nodes (MN) due to mobility from one point of attachment to another point of attachment creates problems of delay, link failure, packet loss and error rate in the packets. The proposed work is modeled to analyze the performance of vertical handover considering 4G and wireless data networks. The vertical handover delay is estimated based on radio link quality and merit function of access network. A Matlab based heterogeneous model is considered and with the designed algorithm the performance is …

Inverted Generalized Linear Exponential Distribution As A Lifetime Model, Mohamed A. W. Mahmoud, M. G. M. Ghazal, H. M. M. Radwan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper concerns with a new lifetime model named the inverted generalized linear exponential distribution (IGLED). Statistical properties like moments, quantile and modes are introduced. The classification of the behavior of IGLED based on reliability analysis like mean residual life (MRL) time, the mean waiting time (MWT), the hazard rate (HR) function and the reversed hazard rate (RHR) function are discussed. Bonferroni curve (Bc), Lorentz curve, the scaled total time on test (TTT) transform curve and the measures of income inequality are also studied. The heavy-weight property is proved for IGLED under the shape parameter ξ . The explanation of …
On The Coupling Of The Thermostatted Kinetic Theory With The Information Theory, Carlo Bianca
On The Coupling Of The Thermostatted Kinetic Theory With The Information Theory, Carlo Bianca
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper deals with a further generalization of the continuous thermostatted kinetic theory for active particles. Specifically the interest focuses on the linking between the macroscopic data and the statistical evolution of the system. The connection between measurements and sources is established by defining an inverse problem based on the distribution vector function solution of the thermostatted kinetic framework. The inverse problem belongs to the class of ill-posed Volterra equations of the first kind considering that the number of sources can be greater of the number of measurements. The uniqueness of the solution is obtained by coupling the thermostatted kinetic …

Pixel Valued Adaptive Single Scale Center Surround Algorithm- An Innovative Approach For Illumination Removal, R. Alarmelu Mangai, N. Devarajan
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper proposes an innovative approach for removing the non uniform illumination which is a major artifact in microscopic algal images. Center Surround Algorithm is used for correcting the non uniform illumination where the illumination and reflectance are separated but not completely removed. In this new algorithm the pixel values are replaced based on the geometric mean of the surrounding pixels and applying the Adaptive Single Scale Center Surround Algorithm to remove non uniform illumination. By determining inhomogenity and calculating zeros the illumination is completely removed. By iterating the convolution, the edges are also preserved. Many of the algal species …

Hybrid Taylor-Lucas Collocation Method For Numerical Solution Of High-Order Pantograph Type Delay Differential Equations With Variables Delays, Nurcan Bayku, Mehmet Sezer
Hybrid Taylor-Lucas Collocation Method For Numerical Solution Of High-Order Pantograph Type Delay Differential Equations With Variables Delays, Nurcan Bayku, Mehmet Sezer
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this study we consider a higher-order linear nonhomogenous pantograph type delay differential equation with variable coefficients and variables delays, and propose a new collocation method based on hybrid Taylor and Lucas polynomials. The presented method transforms the delay differential equation with the initial and boundary conditions to a system of linear algebraic equations with the unknown Lucas coefficients; by finding Lucas coefficients easily, Lucas polynomial solutions are obtained. Also an error estimation technique based on residual function is developed for our method and applied to exiting problems.
A One-Dimensional Mathematical Model For The Source Reconstruction By The Maximum Entropy Principle, Carlo Bianca, Raphael Sasportas
A One-Dimensional Mathematical Model For The Source Reconstruction By The Maximum Entropy Principle, Carlo Bianca, Raphael Sasportas
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper is concerned with the localization problem of a source belonging to a domain monitored by a network of detectors. A mathematical model is proposed within an inverse problem framework which is based on the maximum information entropy principle. Specifically the connection between the measurements released by the detectors and the sources is obtained by assuming that each detector has a visibility domain which is modeled by introducing a visibility function. A computational sensitivity analysis is performed on the number of detectors and on the visibility functions. The results are of great interest in the applied sciences.
Energy Efficient Quasi Cyclic Fec For Wireless Sensor Networks, P. Kaythry, R. Kishore
Energy Efficient Quasi Cyclic Fec For Wireless Sensor Networks, P. Kaythry, R. Kishore
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a collection of battery operated sensor devices with lossy nature. Achieving reliability in data transmission in WSN is a big challenge. Forward error control (FEC) and Automatic Repeat request (ARQ) are the error control mechanisms used for increasing the reliability of data transmission. Since, WSN is a power constraint environment, the error control mechanism implemented in the sensor nodes should consume less energy. In this paper, we propose optimal quasi cyclic FEC scheme in WSN for detection and correction of burst errors. In ARQ, retransmission of corrupted data is highly time consuming whereas the proposed …

“Data science” is a useful catchword for methods and concepts original to the field of statistics, but typically being applied to large, multivariate, observational records. Such datasets call for techniques not often part of an introduction to statistics: modeling, consideration of covariates, sophisticated visualization, and causal reasoning. This article re-imagines introductory statistics as an introduction to data science and proposes a sequence of 10 blocks that together compose a suitable course for extracting information from contemporary data. Recent extensions to the mosaic packages for R together with tools from the “tidyverse” provide a concise and readable notation for wrangling, visualization, …

Uncovering User-Triggered Privacy Leaks In Mobile Applications And Their Utility In Privacy Protection, Joo Keng Joseph Chan
Dissertations and Theses Collection
Mobile applications are increasingly popular, and help mobile users in many aspects of their lifestyle. Applications have access to a wealth of information about the user through powerful developer APIs. It is known that most applications, even popular and highly regarded ones, utilize and leak privacy data to the network. It is also common for applications to over-access privacy data that does not fit the functionality profile of the application. Although there are available privacy detection tools, they might not provide sufficient context to help users better understand the privacy behaviours of their applications. In this dissertation, I present the …

Product Based Business Decision Making For Enhanced Information Retrieval Based Root Cause Analysis, S. Subitha, S. Sujatha
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Business decision making has become complex due to increased online e-commerce activities (purchases). Though profitable, this has reduced personalized interactions with buyers, hence leaving the organizations in the leeward side of user’s feedbacks and requirements. Social networking sites provide a base platform for users to interact with their peers, also providing a platform for organizations to leverage the missed feedbacks and requirements. However, the huge amount of content (less relevant and more irrelevant) present in such domains makes appropriate data retrieval a complex task. This paper presents an architecture that can be used to effectively retrieve information from heterogeneous data …

Computational Prediction Of Conductivities Of Disk-Shaped Particulate Composites, Jian Qiu
Computational Prediction Of Conductivities Of Disk-Shaped Particulate Composites, Jian Qiu
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The effective conductivities are determined for randomly oriented disk-shaped particles using an efficient computational algorithm based on the finite element method. The pairwise intersection criteria of disks are developed using a set of vector operations. An element partition scheme has been implemented to connect the elements on different disks across the lines of intersection. The computed conductivity is expressed as a function of the density and the size of the circular disks or elliptical plates. It is further expressed in a power-law form with the key parameters determined from curve fittings. The particle number and the trial number of simulations …

Electron Parallel Transport For Arbitrary Collisionality, Jeong-Young Ji, Gunsu S. Yun, Yong-Su Na, Eric D. Held
All Physics Faculty Presentations
Integral (nonlocal) closures [J.-Y. Ji and E. D. Held, Phys. Plasmas 21, 122116 (2014)] are combined with the momentum balance equation to derive electron parallel transport relations. For a single harmonic fluctuation, the relations take the same form as the classical Spitzer theory (with possible additional terms): The electric current and heat flux densities are connected to the modified electric field and temperature gradient by transport coefficients. In contrast to the classical theory, the dimensionless coefficients depend on the collisionality quantified by a Knudsen number, the ratio of the collision length to the angular wavelength. The key difference comes from …

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Research
We present the discovery of an active galactic nucleus (AGN) that is turning off and then on again in the z = 0.06 galaxy SDSS J1354+1327. This episodic nuclear activity is the result of discrete accretion events that could have been triggered by a past interaction with the companion galaxy that is currently located 12.5 kpc away. We originally targeted SDSS J1354+1327 because its Sloan Digital Sky Survey spectrum has narrow AGN emission lines that exhibit a velocity offset of 69 km s−1 relative to systemic. To determine the nature of the galaxy and its velocity-offset emission lines, we …
