The purpose of this study was to compare emotion and personality trait attributions to facial expression between American and Indian samples. Data were collected using Amazon.com’s Mechanical Turk (MTurk). Participants in this study were asked to correctly identify the emotion and make inferences from pictures of three different facial expressions (scowling, frowning, and smiling) of young white females and males in six photographs. Each picture was randomly presented for 10 seconds followed by four randomized questions about the individual in the picture. Scholars have been documenting the effects of neoliberal educational policies, practices, and ideologies on staff, faculty, and students of color in higher education. Their work has raised important conceptual questions about the relationship between neoliberalism and race: Has neoliberal hegemony brought about a significant rupture with previous racial regimes, or does the current racial-neoliberal formation in higher education represent a re-articulation, a recombination of pre-existing elements in new formations? Our ability to answer this question will aid in theory development and lead to new strategies for interventions. In this review article, I argue that games are complementary, not self-supporting, learning tools for democratic education because they can: (a) offer simplified, but often not simple, outlines (later called “models”) of complex social systems that generate further inquiry; (b) provide practice spaces for exploring systems that do not have the often serious consequences of taking direct and immediate social, civic, and legal action; and (c) use rules to allow players to explore this aforementioned outline or model by making decisions and seeing an outcome. Early childhood and educational research have indicated that a young child’s temperament is predictive of success in school and adulthood. A child’s temperament has the potential to impact not only their interpretation of life events, but can also influence the activities that they choose and how adults respond to and interact with them. Little research portrays collaborative analytic inquiry in practice. Drawing on our dual lenses, we, a professor and a doctoral student in an advanced qualitative methods course, applied principles of collaborative analytic inquiry to construct new understandings about key events that occurred during an advanced qualitative research class. Using asynchronous e-mail communication, we shared, affirmed, and questioned each other’s and our own storied recollections of moments of joy and learning intertwined with some challenging issues. This article explores Nigeria’s current foreign policy under the Fourth Republic (May 1999- ). It investigates the gamut of events surrounding Nigeria’s foreign policy-making and practice since independence (1960) and how this compares with the Obasanjo (1999-2007) administration’s efforts at foreign policy formulation and implementation in Nigeria’s recently hard-won recognition in the international system after 16 years of military authoritarianism. The paper argues that the Obasanjo administration was a success given the range of domestic and international issues that the administration was able to address. The ideals of universal design have profoundly impacted instruction, policy, and infrastructure in course architecture and design within elementary education and at some universities. Within international and global studies, however, these principles have not deeply affected either pedagogy or scholarship despite the fact that classes in international studies may include more international students and third culture kids1 than classes in other programs. Higher education in the United States has long been attractive to international students. International students from many countries seek the assistance of recruiters or educational agents when collecting information about colleges and college application in preparation for studying abroad. This study examines how educational agents facilitate Nepalese students in their U.S. higher education preparation. The author analyzes survey and interview data from 112 Nepalese students to investigate the experiences and issues Nepalese students typically face when preparing to study abroad and the ways in which educational agents are utilized to mitigate those issues. Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by a severe loss in bone mineral density, putting individuals at elevated risk of bone fracture. The disorder is extremely prevalent, with high associated costs. Pharmaceutical treatments exist, but currently have severe drawbacks, and preventative measures are effective primarily within an individual's first two decades of life, long before the normal age of diagnosis. To better develop treatments in a high-throughput physiological setting, an in vitro model for bone cell culture that accurately recapitulates the in vivo cellular environment is needed. Prior research has shown that Bulgarian participants report greater global normative environment and identification with global citizens than U.S. participants; it has also shown that the relationship between country sample (U.S. vs. Bulgaria) and global citizenship identification is mediated by the perception that one’s normative environment promotes a global citizen identity. In Study 1 of the present research, we examined the number of global (vs. domestic stories) in U.S. and Bulgarian print media to find a greater number of global stories in Bulgarian media.
